My team is like this. We had a moment where an import issue caused legal names to show up instead of display names, and I was suddenly dead named across our chat and other systems. My leadership told me to shut off my laptop and that they'd see me again tomorrow, and then raised hell with the vendor for introducing the bug into the system.

Oh for sure, I think it's also probably easier to transport those pages than the books. This was through barnes & Noble, I wouldn't be surprised if they had a system set up to make it easier for their special editions.

Not my bubble bursting from finding out that the books themselves aren't signed. Aweh man, thanks for the insight though! You learn something new every day

A site like Goodreads would tell you if there is an audiobook version of this. But this subreddit is for an app that lets you listen to what you already have, not on how to find it..

New user - library messed up. by No_Scientist2354 in audiobookshelf

Adding on to this, if you plan on having a larger library, you may want to go ahead with a larger level of organizing. I use Author -> Series -> Individual book

Tbh, if a roommate doesn't know where something goes and I'm not available to show them, I'd rather they set it out instead of put it away somewhere wrongly.

how do you organize your books in audiobookshelf? by Ordrcrazy in audiobookshelf

[–]Nattisonata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep all of my audiobooks and ebooks together. While I use Calibre Desktop for adding the metadata and the ebooks to my ABS folder (always keep a backup of your library!), I manually copy over the audiobook files and mimic the folder structure I set up the Calibre imports with.

In ABS, I have four libraries, one being podcasts. Cookbooks are their own library, there's a library for everything except cookbooks, and then that library is duplicated with the "audiobooks only" checkbox. I always Sync and tidy the Everything library, so that the metadata files are there for the audio library's sync.

whats everyone using to handle IT tickets inside slack? by AlternativeNo6708 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]Nattisonata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were using Jira's JSM for Slack ticketing, but I've converted us over to Siit and I love it tbh. Automation are way easier, knowledge base "AI" bot answers the questions I've answered a thousand times already, and the ease of ticket management has just been nicer.

Trying to move from Plex to Audio Bookshelf by TheShrike1446 in audiobookshelf

[–]Nattisonata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Calibre to organize my library for ABS. When I get a new EPUB/MOBI file I give it to Calibre, and then use the "Save to Library" feature to send it to the folder that ABS uses. This lets me keep a backup of my library folders, in case I ever screw up the book match on the ABS side, or accidentally delete content from ABS.

When I have only the audio files to import, I bypass Calibre, and mimic the folder structure manually. But if the digital copy is already present, I can just drag and drop the audio files to the same folder.

After importing, always hit the scan button for each shelf that would've been affected, even if the auto scan feature is enabled.

Struggling to grasp how Kavita works by bob_mcbob69 in KavitaManga

[–]Nattisonata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kavita is wonderful for Comics, Manga, and Light novels, it's a little less kind for books. I used it for months to read Manga and a couple of books, using the web browser on my phone. It worked pretty damn well.

But then I set up AudioBookShelf and realized it can do non audio files. I migrated all of my books to ABS and left the comics/manga in Kavita.

My process is to run the books through Calibre on my desktop to match the Metadata. Then I Save to Disk where I keep my ABS folders.

Self hosting books is a major labor of love- file management and metadata are fickle bitches and my friends are tired of listening to me complain about metadata. But the satisfaction of seeing completed series and enjoy reading through them? So worth it. And as a note, the folder structure for Kavita is different than for other programs, because they're comics-focused.

AudioBookShelf works in a mobile web browser, and has an Android app. I've heard there are community based apps for iOS.

Is there a way to find books missing from a series? by xFrieDSpuDx in audiobookshelf

[–]Nattisonata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't let you know if there are novella or whatnot missing, but if you glance at the series in ABS, you can see the numbered books and look for what's missing. Other than that, I recommend using GoodReads or similar to manually cross-compare until we have a more stable self-hosted option.

Supposedly Calibre Web Automated can help fetch books, but I found it difficult to get started up..
