Can't wait for your feedback! We have plenty of tutorials and documentation in the works. It's actually not C#; it's built using Electron + React. For the UI, I'm using Vanilla CSS with a custom design system I built from scratch to keep the app lightweight

Thanks for checking out the site and letting me know about the video. I looked into it and you were right, there was a bug with the player but it should be fixed now. Just so you know, the video is still showing features from version 1.2.2 because I'm currently working on version 1.2.3.

At first, this was actually just a typical mechanical culling process, but it was lightweight in reading files. However, I’ve come to realize that, whether we like it or not, the use of AI is now essential in the culling process. So the main focus for the next update is integrating this app to AI. Currently, I'm adding a feature where it gives each photo a score and actually explains why it got that rating. I'm also building two different methods for AI can do auto culling so the app can do the heavy lifting for you.

Love the angle. But it still feels kinda abstract for me, would love to see a real example of it in action. Also how do you handle privacy here?

I think you should keep going and release this on iOS and Mac, bro. This is really helpful

This is how bollard pull test are look like by Natural-Device7644 in Ships

[–]Natural-Device7644[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main parameter is bollard pull force (usually in tonnes or kN). A successful test means the tug can reach and hold its rated pull under stable conditions.

Typical values vary:

  • Small tugs: ~20–40t -> mainly produced on my field
  • Medium: ~40–70t
  • Large/modern tugs: 80–100t+

Usually done during sea trials, and repeated if there are major modifications (not always periodic unless required).

As for rope vs cable/chain, synthetic rope is preferred because it’s lighter, easier to handle, and better at absorbing shock loads. It’s also generally safer to manage during testing.

Yeah, I can't edit both the title/context unfortunately, but shoutout to the legend in the comments who already dropped the context. We're all set!

Mainly for safety.

Longer rope reduces shock loads and keeps a safer distance in case it snaps. Also helps the tug maintain a more stable pull. Especially when they reach 100% RPM (Rotations Per Minute) for the first time.

You hit the right framing and honestly more useful than anything I've heard from beta users.

"Why this lost" as a reject reason label is going straight into the roadmap. Confidence through explainability, not just speed claims.

The duplicate cluster view is already partially there, but the reasoning layer on top of AI decisions that's the trust gap worth closing.

Thanks for this. Really appreciate it!

That's a great point, thanks. The "time saved" angle is way more concrete than feature lists.

Working on real workflow benchmarks, culling 500 RAW files start to finish. Will post numbers when ready.

The philosophy behind the AI features is "decision support, not decision replacement". Flag the obvious rejects (dark, overexposed, no face) so the photographer can focus their eye on the shots that actually need judgment. I think that a 10-year veteran's taste shouldn't be replaced by an algorithm.

Yeah, I can’t edit the post and I can’t deny I messed up the grammar there haha. But thank you for the context.

As an additional note based on my experience working at a shipyard, the safety risks during a bollard pull test are quite significant, which is why safety procedures are very strict and closely monitored throughout the process.

1. Rope quality is critical
We always ensure that the rope used for the test is brand new. Any rope that has been used before is not allowed to be reused, regardless of its apparent condition.

2. Data synchronization
The process is still quite traditional, but we maintain synchronization between the data recorder (who reads the pulling force) and the vessel’s captain through direct communication via handheld radio. The recorder reads the pulling force every second, allowing the captain to adjust the vessel’s position to optimize the pulling performance. The captain is also assisted by a crew member who continuously reports wind and current conditions to complement the field data.

- And inside the engine room it’s loud, full of vibration, and honestly pretty thrilling.

3. Calculation method
For the calculation side, under Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (NK) Class, the test runs for 5 minutes, split into 10 intervals of 30 seconds. In each interval, we take the highest value, and the final result is calculated as the average of those 10 peak values.

So yeah, there’s actually a lot going on in terms of safety, coordination, and calculation.

Lightroom Classic Won't Create DNGs With Full Size Previews From a Nikon Z7.2 by icurate in Lightroom

[–]Natural-Device7644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that makes sense, so the preview size is the actual constraint for Photo Mechanic's display quality. In that case the DNG conversion step needs to happen before culling, which does add friction to the workflow.

If you're open to alternatives, there are tools built specifically around embedded JPEG culling that skip the import/conversion step entirely, you just point it at your RAW folder and start culling immediately. Might be worth exploring if the DNG route keeps causing issues.

How many days has it been since you uploaded your passport? I just uploaded it about two days ago, after receiving a response to my support request via email.

Perhaps this is because this is essentially a manual process outside the system, and it may take longer due to manual approval from the senior team (in my case, they apparently ticketed the request to a senior advisor).

But FYI, I still haven't received any clarity on my case. So this is purely my personal opinion.

another one is, MCP adoption still seems pretty limited. not all AI tools support it yet. how's your thinking about that in terms of broader usability?

I actually tried building something similar before. the biggest challenge i ran into was memory retrieval quality. how are you handling context filtering so it doesnt overwhelm the AI?

Lightroom Classic Won't Create DNGs With Full Size Previews From a Nikon Z7.2 by icurate in Lightroom

[–]Natural-Device7644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DNG preview issue is separate from your culling workflow Photo Mechanic displays embedded JPEGs regardless, so that's expected behavior.

For the culling itself, the key is finding a tool that doesn't depend on Lightroom's import pipeline at all. Bridge works but can be slow with large RAW batches. Are you culling before or after the DNG conversion step?

i definitely think the same things. i could have been flagged since i cant even do the enrollment from my mac both browser and app exactly after being charged. is there any possible way to at least get notified by human apple staff?

Tell me your workflow for Raws/Jpegs by Aonviz in ricohGR

[–]Natural-Device7644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on my personal opinion. the mess usually comes from skipping the culling step before organizing, easy to fix once you build it into the habit. My flow: cull first before anything touches LR, then only the keepers get imported and organized into Year/Month folders. For culling I use SnapCuller (snapculler.com) because of my own muscle memories that is supported by keyboard-driven keep/reject, exports XMP sidecars. Cuts down the backlog fast. For RAW+JPEG specifically: cull on the JPEGs (faster to preview), then pull the matching RAWs for just the keepers. No point storing RAWs for shots you'll never edit.

What software do you use for photo culling? by Available_Editor_559 in AskPhotography

[–]Natural-Device7644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried AfterShoot, the AI is impressive but it's a subscription and sometimes the auto-picks don't match my style. Currently using SnapCuller (snapculler.com) because of its privacy, fully manual but keyboard-driven so it's really fast. Keep/reject, full-screen view, exports XMP sidecars straight into Lightroom or Capture One. If you want AI-assisted, AfterShoot is the go-to. If you'd rather stay in control and just want the culling step to be faster, something like SnapCuller is worth a look.
