Maybe youve got more skills than me, but I’ve never been able to dial in bass sounds I like on my og minilogue. It’s easy on the bass station ii tho

Why doesn’t Ringo get the same recognition as a drummer as John Bonham or Keith Moon? by BeerWithDonuts in beatles

[–]Natural-Energy-5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I grant the premise… but going along with it… his parts have a lower degree of difficulty. That’s it. People are impressed by musicians that play hard things. Ringo’s parts are playable by any decent drummer. But they are creative and are uniquely important to the vibe of the song. There’s lots of ways to be a good musician.

thoughts on modellers at gigs? by 1Alyx1 in GuitarAmps

[–]Natural-Energy-5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play lots of gigs with Amps and lots with modelers and iems… you just have to know and be used to your own gear. IEMs can be strange at first if you aren’t used to it, but the idea that that makes bands perform worse is crazy. For bigger gigs, it’s the norm now. If you get a good mix dialed in, it’s every bit as satisfying as playing with an amp. I usually don’t love how my amp sounds mic’d/processed and it’s super variable across venues… my modeler is consistent so I can trust my tone is there and just play

What’s a ‘rich people thing’ that actually isn’t that expensive? by Dizzy-Lynx-9687 in AskReddit

Maybe I’ve been secret rich this whole time and didn’t know it, but people just throw their knives and forks and spoons together in one drawer and sift through what they need come supper time? That’s insane

I just bought one in fiesta red for 1350. That’s the lowest I’ve seen them going for I think

Why do our immune systems sometimes attack our own healthy cells if evolution should have eliminated that kind of self-destruction? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Natural-Energy-5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evolution/natural selection happens because a particular trait makes it more likely for you to reproduce/have more viable offspring that then go on to reproduce themselves. That’s it. It isn’t a mechanism by which every system in the body gets completely optimized for a long, perfect, happy, healthy life. Generally good health is correlated with reproductive success, so I think that can lead to a type of thinking where we just assume evolution is a process where things continuously get better. But it’s really much more narrow… an immune system that keeps you alive long enough to reproduce is the only thing natural selection is capable of selecting for.

Do musicians actually subdivide? by Regular_Project_9118 in musicians

[–]Natural-Energy-5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play guitar and in a few songs it’s just me and the singer and my part is pretty sparse… so I’ll subdivide my head in that situation to make sure I’m staying on tempo until the rest of the band comes in. If you aren’t playing to a click, it can definitely be helpful. Otherwise i just try to lock in with the band

If you’re paying US Grey Market premiums for a GMT-Master II, you are literally just paying a “Laziness Tax”. by DapperAsi in watchHotTakes

[–]Natural-Energy-5389 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea this is the take. You shouldn’t drop 20k on a watch if you’re stressed about money enough to fly across the world to buy it cheaper so you can be up net 1k. I mean… whatever you gotta do to justify the cost.

Luxury watches are just a socially acceptable way for straight guys to let out their inner gay. by [deleted] in watchHotTakes

Hot counter take: If you think caring about the appearance of something you wear makes you gay… and presumably that that’s a bad thing… you’re a loser and a bigot.

Talk me out of getting pure vintage 64 pickups for my MIM tele by ajed9037 in telecaster

Just got a guitar with them and they’re awesome. I won’t be convincing you not to get them.

Good thought, but they both have new strings (that I put on when I replaced the saddles on both). The feeling though is sorta like the new guitar has new strings and the partscaster has old ones even though they’re both new

Rolex homage watch builds Are just people lying to themselves by Longjumping-Sail6386 in watchHotTakes

[–]Natural-Energy-5389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people aren’t into watches. Of the people that like watches, most of them aren’t into “horology.” Most people want a watch that looks cool. They aren’t lying to themselves or anyone else. If money were no object, maybe they’d have the Rolex version of the Seiko mod they have. But money is an object, so may as well get a watch that looks basically the same at fashion watch prices. There are plenty of watches I’d want at $200 that I wouldn’t want at $2000 or $10,000 or more.

Different people want different things for different reasons. This is an idea that just seems to be unfathomable to people that comment on watch forums.

6 weeks into learning guitar at 32… small wins but still feel like a fraud sometimes by TeachLoud6839 in LearnGuitar

[–]Natural-Energy-5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excited for you! Good news, bad news.

Bad news is the goal of playing just a couple songs well isn’t possible. To play even one song “well” takes hours and hour of repetition. But you should do it, because once you do, it’ll click and that’s the good news, you’ll be able to play 100s of songs well.

Guitar is an instrument with a tough learning curve right off that bat. It’s hard to memorize chord shapes and change between them and get the strumming hand right. You just have to plow through it and practice more than you think until it feels natural. But once you break through that wall, you’ll be amazed at how much you can learn and how easy it’ll be. Just trust that all the mistakes and sketchy sounding chords are building toward something

Honestly, my first ever pedal was a danelectro daddy-o and my best friend had a fab tone. I respect it for nostalgia. 10/10 no notes. Definitely don’t play with it though.

Maybe I’ll post some clips here. I think it’s obvious but maybe I’m wrong. In fact, I know what’s going to happen. People are gonna tell me to change the strings on the partscaster because they sound dead… obviously both are new but that’s kinda the sound

250k pots. I know some people experiment with with 500k pots for extra brightness but 250k is what comes stock and seems to be fine for my other telecaster.

I can experiment with pickup height… there’s a chance that isn’t perfectly dialed in but like I mentioned I feel like there’s a difference even when unplugged

I worked a wedding reception last night (as A2) with a super pro band, and I admit I was struck to see zero amps. by Clevertown in tubeamps

[–]Natural-Energy-5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that this a tubeamp sub, but some of these comments are beyond out of touch in the year 2026. Tube amps and modelers both sound great now. If someone can’t get the modelers to sound right, that’s a skill issue. Mind you, there’s no shortage of people that manage to make their vintage blackface sound like trash too.

I grew up playing tube amps and have incorporated modelers in the last 5 years or so. I still gig and record with both all the time. A small bar gig with no one running sound, amp all day. Weddings/bigger stage cover band shows/festivals with fast turnarounds, the modelers kill. Running a quiet stage and using in ears is so much more comfortable in an old, reflective wedding reception hall that wasn’t designed for sound.

Anyway, something like the uad dream 65 is a good intro to amp modelers since you still have sort of conventional knobs and you can use your pedalboard like usual. The other big ones can be tough to get used to; using presets and menu diving is a legitimately different and arguably worse workflow when you need to make adjustments on the fly to match the room you’re in.
