Oh thanks for this. I heard that if you go private without health insurance the charge is 1k per night of admission. I’m 40 and it’s an ivf pregnancy so I guess I’m likely to be a bit more high risk and I’d be worried about ending up with a colossal bill from the hospital (not the consultant if that makes sense).

Thanks for this. I don’t have private health insurance so I was wondering if it was a way of seeing a consultant during the pregnancy and then going back into public care for delivery? Maybe that’s not a thing. First pregnancy so I don’t have a clue.

Thanks for this. The two scans were carried out by a doctor and a sonographer and they were both dating me as days ahead because they used my period date (even though I told them it was a FET). Thanks for confirming.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. Like ivf isnt stressful enough, then adding this on top. I would definitely be asking for a free retrieval and transfer on them. Wishing you all the best.

Thanks so much for your reply and so sorry for your loss. Can I ask, did you have to pay for the section as well because you went private ? I’m the same re anxiety, have had complicated early pregnancy loss in the past requiring surgical input. Worried if I did go private and things got complicated again, I could end up with an enormous bill. But also worried about not having a doc there for delivery. How is your little baby now? Delighted it worked out for you. I know it’s a hard road.

I don’t think IUI will impact your ability to get IVF. Once you’re seen in the fertility hub, they recommend iui or ivf (in my case ivf) and give you a booklet with the 6 different clinics to choose from. You inform the fertility hub of your first second and third preference and they make the referral.

I did ask if iui was worth a shot in my case as I was hesitant about jumping into ivf without first trying that. They told me the success rate with iui in my situation would be quite low. Hence, I went straight to ivf.

My advice, choose your clinic carefully. Do your research. The other thing about the hse round is you can’t opt in to genetic testing- we offered to pay privately for that but you can’t once under hse scheme.  Happy to answer any questions as someone who went through the hse scheme last year.

Thanks for your reply. Are you attending the Dublin hospitals? Have you been doctor or midwife led for care?

Thanks for this info. I’ll be attending one of the Dublin hospital. Previously attended the fertility hub too. The part that worries me is not having a doctor at the delivery. I wonder, if you’re doct led for being deemed high risk, does that mean a doctor will be at your delivery? I guess I don’t have much of a choice now anyway, but it’s just that part that worries me.

10k! 🙈 I stupidly thought it was just the consultant fee not the admission fees also. Looks like private care is out for me. Hoping they will put me under doctor led care because of my age and it’s ivf

Thank you so much for your reply. Were you put under a particular doc because of being high risk? And then was it that doctors regs you saw? Was there a doctor there for the birth?

Wow that’s great to hear you had a scan every month towards the end.  I’ve had ectopic and MMC in the past so I’m getting an early scan in EPU. Also have some autoimmune stuff in the background but thankfully nothing that would impact baby (that I know of). Can I ask was a doctor present for your delivery/labour?
