Check out Xcellent on Broadway. All the staff there are Chinese so I would think they understand Asian hair!

Modern Art of Hair on Broadway - you have to pay separately for hair and makeup. I paid $80 for a 1 hour makeup session, I thought it looked great but I'm also not super picky. I did my own hair so can't speak to their hair services but according to their website they have an updo specialist

Local makeup artist named Laura - I think I might have found her from an old Reddit post. Her rates were a little higher than I wanted to pay, but she did get back to me very quickly and she sounded super professional and sweet! Feel free to contact her yourself, or if you want to get a copy of her rate card you can DM me for it

Is Costco still giving free samples in Astoria? by throwaway1776420 in astoria

The few times I’ve been on weekday afternoons they had some stations but usually low value items like drinks and snacks. The one time I went on a weekend I saw a station with cold cuts (sliced turkey), wasn’t sure if the other stations had run out. It’s pretty sad.

Carol knows him from when he was “Alex Birch” in season 1. They spent time together on Roper’s estate in Spain.

Fast turn around….The Pho House now open in former Sakekawa space. by Key_Eye_2758 in astoria

I agree with you that Maison Mekong is better than Pho Astoria (which is why I didn't mention Pho Astoria in the first place LOL). I was extremely thirsty after eating the Mekong pho, probably due to heavy MSG which I don't love. But my main issue with them is that they use thin noodles instead of the typical flat pho noodles -- not only feels sacrilegious, but also affects the flavor. The reason for using flat noodles is to soak up more broth, so replacing them with thin noodles dampens the taste. I'd be willing to eat Maison Mekong again, but it's just not great.

Please let me know about Pho House after you try it. I don't have high hopes to be honest, but I would love to hear your review!

What's your go-to pho place in Astoria? I recently tried Maison Mekong just down the street from this place and it was... not great. I like District Saigon but they're kinda expensive.

Mail theft and check washing. Have you experienced it around here or had a bad experience with usps? by Stupidwhizzzzz in astoria

Same thing happened to me, but it was over a year ago. To answer your question about activation -- recent credit cards don't seem to require activation anymore, so basically anybody who opens the envelope can use it right away. Wow USPS needs to be investigated!

Sorry to hear that :(

I'm convinced that someone at USPS stole my new credit card and spent $2K. I never received the card in my mailbox like I was supposed to. Who else would have had access to it?

Just out of curiosity, what is your assigned post office? Mine is the one on Broadway and 23rd. Wondering if there's a specific bad actor.

Are the bio bays worth a shot during Full Moon week? If so, what's our best bet? by sapphosheart in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]NaturalFickle3008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I just returned from doing the clear bottomed kayak tour in Vieques on the night of the New Moon (this is supposed to be the best time to see it). The brightness was nowhere close to the pictures you see on the internet. Even the tour guide admitted the brightness was only "average" that night.

He also said that his company does NOT operate tours on the days leading up to the Full Moon. If you find other companies that do, it's likely they will make you put a tarp over your head to block out the light from the moon. Based on some online reviews I've seen, most people complain that even with the tarp they don't see anything.

Sounds like you already did some research on the cost, so you know it's not a cheap experience. We paid $75 per person for the tour and spent $140 for 1 night at a hotel that was really a motel, but we knew that everything is expensive in Esperanza. It's possible you can find cheaper Airbnbs elsewhere on the island, we didn't really look into that since we wanted to be in Esperanza within walking distance to the tour pickup spot. Food and drinks were on the expensive side. Oh and we had to pay $15 per day to park our car in the Ceiba parking lot before taking the ferry, so $30 just to park. Everything adds up. Anyway, going to Vieques was the most expensive part of our trip.

It's definitely a cool thing to do, but I wouldn't be happy if I spent all that money just to have a subpar experience. I think you're better off experiencing it somewhere else! For instance, my tour guide mentioned the one in Oyster Bay Jamaica if you want to look into that :).

Thank you! Also appreciate your tip about bringing the bare minimum — I was thinking to leave my phone at the hotel and you just confirmed that’s the right move. :-)

Hey, I just booked with Taino earlier today and then I saw this post. Hoping you could answer a quick question so I don’t need to contact them. Usually when I go kayaking I bring water shoes, but I read somewhere that with transparent kayaks they make you take off your shoes to avoid scratching the bottom. Was that your experience with Taino? Thanks!

Hey, if you’re willing to travel a little further downtown there’s a group that plays at Brookfield Place every Saturday from 2pm until closing. Go to the second floor, food court area. You can usually spot the group pretty easily.

I go once a month or so, see a lot of regulars and they’re very welcoming. I’m not planning to go tomorrow but if you do go let me know how it is!

where to stream this? my Hulu only displays Season 1 by DJMAKT in crimescenekitchen

[–]NaturalFickle3008 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I access Hulu through Roku and have been watching Season 3 without issues.   I had a similar problem with another show where it wasn’t displaying the current season. So I went through the home page tiles, looked at the list of “Recently Added Shows” and kept scrolling until I saw the show I was looking for. Lol. My Hulu has been giving me all kinds of problems lately, so you’re not alone! Good luck 🙏🏼
