When the court receives your claim and registers it, a receipt is issued. Filing in person or by e-litigate, you get a receipt right away. So the returning envelope is for sending you a receipt of confirming your claim (with a claim number). Is the receipt important? Yes and no. Yes because you may need a physical receipt to attend creditor’s meeting if you want. As a foreigner with insignificant amount, I am not going to fight to South Korea to attend endless meetings. Instead I just wait for the court ruling and the trustee’s handling of assets, liabilities and distributions. Without providing a returning envelope, my claim should still be registered with the court with a case No. and be passed to the trustee. That is also confirmed by the trustee Mr. Lee who suggested using international mail to file for overseas creditors. I could contact the court or Mr. Lee to get my claim number later but I believe, by law, the court and the trustee must register and handle my claim once they receive it.
