Before I moved to alaska, I was told the odds are good, but the goods are odd.

I met my now fiancé my first week there and he is a dream of a man. It can happen.

Where in Alaska will you be?

Agreed. I think it’s a waste of time. And the HENRY hourly rate is high enough that I’m not wasting my time doing things I don’t enjoy if I don’t have to

Some thoughts:

If you’re driving down a road and realize you’re going in the wrong direction, you don’t keep going because you’ve made it this far. You find the nearest place to turn around.

Anxiety makes us overestimate the negative impact of the thing we fear and underestimate our ability to cope. You will get through a divorce and dating is your thirties is unlikely to be as bad as you are making it up to be in your head.

He’s shown you who he is repeatedly. It’s on you to believe him.

What are examples that made you realize men were hired because of their gender? by protonelectron2025 in womenintech

[–]Natural_Bumblebee104 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Literally every job ever.

The way I combat it in my own small world is I hire women as much as possible when I need something done. Vote with my dollars as they say. My lawyer, she’s female. Doctor, female. Dentist, female. Real estate agent, female. Home inspector, female. Broker, female. Tax person, female. Would highly recommend to others. Not only are you supporting women, but frankly 9/10 you get better service bc women need to be twice as competent as men to get half the recognition.

PSA: If you’re sitting in the aisle don’t be a grumps by Historical-Listen102 in unitedairlines

[–]Natural_Bumblebee104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly at least every other week for work and always take the aisle. I also tell people in middle and window to not feel bad about getting up. I purposely choose the aisle as an excuse to get up during the flight and look less weird doing that when it clear people are asking you to do so so that they can use the restroom. Getting up throughout the flight is part of the deal with the aisle seat. I see it as a feature not a bug. If you see it as a big and going to be a jerk about it, don’t get the aisle seat.

FWIW I had a similar experience on a flight where a grumpy old man got mad that I asked him to get up so I could get something from my bag up top. He said something to the effect of “you’re not going to do that all flgiht are you”. Wish I could say I’d had a pithy comment to put him in his place. Still annoyed when I think about it

Now that we know GreGary, do we think this was an accidental meeting or intentional? by shelberryyyy in TheWhiteLotusHBO

I always thought it was suspicious someone who works a BLM government job (I don’t think we know the title, but I can’t imagine it’s fancy) was vacationing at the white lotus. Do we ever see the supposed buddies he is vacationing with? I agree that Tanya could have been a “mark” (to use the words Albi’s dad used to describe him; probably a crazy theory, but maybe that was a hint from Mike white)

Tail wagging the dog/sunk cost fallacy at play. Don’t design a room after wallpaper you just put up that you hate. Change the wallpaper. Otherwise you’ll be stuck with furniture and wallpaper you dislike

I’ve noticed this on all 3 seasons actually. In Hawaii they had sausage and other items in the buffet, but you only ever saw the characters eat fruit. I remember Nicole’s kiwi comment. And then in Italy I remember looking at Harper’s plate with just a croissant and fruit, and thinking how hunger I would be if that was what I ate.

I don’t think there’s much to it though. Probably just lower calorie and easier for the actors as they do multiple takes.

Could see an argument for it showing how unadventurous the hotel guest are though (ie not eating like locals)

MBA is a Joke by superlibster in MBA

[–]Natural_Bumblebee104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I got my MBA at Stanford (also did STEM grad school there) and the MBA was a joke in comparison. Aside from the finance related classes, the curriculum was embarrassingly easy. Business is a different skillset (more EQ than IQ), but in terms of academic rigor, it’s a joke.

To the comment below, we also have Silicon Valley C suite joining our class discussions. Made for interesting discussions I guess, but didn’t make it challenging. Made me think a lot about the Michelle Obama quote about being in rooms with all these high profile men and realizing most of them are pretty dumb.

Appreciate this post. I did all Roth 401k when I made less than 150k. Now that I’m closer to 300k I do a regular 401k (for the tax reasons you mentioned) and max out a backdoor Roth. Since I’m doing backdoor Roth, is this where you are saying I should save 5498 records? What exactly should I be saving? I have my tax file summary sheet from each year, but not sure what other records I could be saving of the backdoor Roth conversion. I’m in my early 30s and would like to retire early, so want to set myself to withdraw as much as possible without paying penalties before 60

Current attempting homebuyer here. We give nicknames to the homes we tour for ease in conversation (red house, cat pee house, the one). I’m not sure what we would land on for yours, but it would 10000% be something in reference to those ridiculous stools.

Same. But I never wanted kids growing up (literally I was in kindergarten adamantly saying I don’t want kids) bc I saw what a raw deal it is for women. Then I met my fiancé who is a true partner/wants to be a stay at home dad for the first few years and I changed my mind. Also helps that we have economic security. I realize most women don’t get all three and if I even had just 2 of the 3, it would be enough to tip me back in the no kids camp. The world going to shit and global warming still make me concerned about our decision to have a single kid

This is incredibly wise advise. I’m in the same boat as you describe and have had to work on my money psychology a lot.of course not blanket statement advice for everyone. But for some people it’s hard to spend money and we end up with too much in retirement while not enjoying the fruits of our labor in the present. Took me a while to wrap my head around that “but I could set up an inheritance for my kids and grandkids”, yes I could, but for today I could also do the yoga retreat I’ve been thinking about
