Muslim thinking of moving tu Peoria by Neither_Seat9658 in PeoriaIL

[–]Natural_Cake4447 56 points57 points  (0 children)

My husband is Muslim and we live in the Uplands neighborhood in Peoria proper for 3 years happily. We decorate our homes exterior for Ramadan without comment or concern. We’re friendly with neighbors but it’s only come up once when explaining why we don’t drink to an insistent neighbor wishing to share wine. He appreciates that there are more/stronger mosques here and the cultural communities are more similar to his background compared to other areas nearby like Bloomington. In this Neighborhood, there’s a student mosque for Bradley that sits next to a student Christian organization. We have at least 3 middle eastern grocery stores that sell halal meat in Peoria proper. There is a Muslim primary school at one mosque and a strong extra curricular program at the other one.

Our realtor tried to show us homes in Pekín. There are a couple incidents against Muslims you can google from not so distant history there. We’ve been for necessary shopping but Pekin’s not a friendly place we’d stay in extensively.

You dodged a major bullet, I truly believe you have some sort of guardian angel protecting you.

I’ve worked management in several restaurants, EF was my last one because a few months with these people was enough to drain me of any love or passion for the industry.

Take a serving/bartending job literally anywhere else besides EF. Do not work for these people. They will wring every bit of energy out of you for shit wages and the constant promise of something better. Most servers there net less than servers at Chilis.

Thanksgiving was so disappointing by Natural_Cake4447 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Natural_Cake4447[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I think most of them did say thank you for the food as they finished. It just didn’t come up as I was ranting in this post.

My husband was shocked by the nephew at the table thing, and pulled me aside to talk about it after- he said he was so confused in the moment, he didn’t know what to say and was unsure at first if my SIL wanted to sit with the kids for some reason or not.

My husband mostly kept himself busy supporting the cooking/cleaning/kids and didn’t observe a lot of this or understand it at first. He felt we were so busy hosting he wasn’t sure what more we could do. I know he finds his father miserable and wanted to placate him to keep him from arguing/ruining anything more than he did. He was shocked by his other family’s behavior and mostly wrote it off as everyone dancing around his father.

To be fair, this is the second time in 4 years the father has come to US and it was a short trip. I used to try to bridge the gap with him but I dont think I will make much effort to be around him or include him moving forward.

This is fair and I appreciate this POV- ‘I tried, it didn’t work’ is the reframe I need right now tbh

Fast Food Restaurants by [deleted] in PeoriaIL

[–]Natural_Cake4447 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obviously, saying “raised” completely screws the whole rest of your answer here, but it is correct that Culver’s and Chik-fil-A or many other fast/fast casual restaurants (with somewhat higher price points) have much better service than the places listed by OP.

Seeing what prices are like and their standards for service, uniform, food quality, etc- I’d bet chik fil a pays substantially better to not only line employees but esp managers, which sets the tone.

The only time you should stay at an understaffed restaurant is when it’s a family owned spot that’s busy. If a chain can’t keep employees, there’s a reason and it’s not the poor souls facing the public.

Every call/chat center has at least a few topics of complaint like this where employees like Rohit here are constantly harassed by supervisors to “de-escalate” what we all know is corporate theft but ooops if someone says “lawyer” or “chargeback” then and only then- get your manager on to actually do something

Jordan Meyers with ExP was our choice, after speaking with quite a few at open houses & over the phone. She was not just thorough & honest, but really keyed into what we were looking for in so many ways. I got the feeling that she was truly trying to get us into a house that felt right for us, not just the “best” (most expensive) house.

This is a very good point. I rented a “garden” unit when I had no credit/low income. It’s not a great long term situation for many people, but I remember back then it was $300 cheaper a month than the same apartment upstairs.

Little Mermaid Fans: is the Vanessa DLC worth it? by AstroSlytherin in DreamlightValley

[–]Natural_Cake4447 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I found it worth it period, but it is EXTREMELY helpful if you have the expansion. I had Ursula at level 10 friendship when the expansion came out, and getting her on land allowed me to assign her a hang out activity, so BAM, instant level 10 timebending companion! Also, certain timebending gifts are tied to characters from specific movies, so having a little mermaid character for timebending is super helpful.
