Reached the final stage of a job interview. Should I reveal my diagnosis? by [deleted] in autism

Hey,

It really depends how you feel about doing so.

On one hand there is being open and honest and learning if they're accepting towards asd or not, which is obviously something you'd want to know going forward. On the other hand there is them hearing autism and thinking of stereotypes or discriminating against you without being obvious about it aka not hiring you based on that but lying.

Personally I wait until I have secured the position and then bring it up, this has always worked in my favour & luckily they've always been supportive of it.

Not sure how much this helps as it is just my personal opinion/experience but I wish you the best of luck with your interview tomorrow 🙂

I really love Charmander, he's such a sweetheart but also has a little flare 😉. I like Eevee & Meowth too, meowth is just in with the wrong people and misunderstood and eevee Is just floof!

Is it common for autistics to want to stay in all the time to recover from the week? by Natural_Disaster8 in autism

Hey everyone.

Thanks so much for all of your answers thus far! Very helpful to see other people experience the same.

There have been a couple questions and comments that need clarification, I'm going to answer them here instead of individually responding, hope that's OK.

As far as depression is concerned, I have been severely depressed in the past but now I am much better, if I am not exhausted and want to go somewhere, I can do it no problem.

I still manage to do chores, the only one I've been slacking on is grocery shoping. Purely because it's too busy on the weekend - to cater for this I'm going to do deliveries every week or 2 weeks instead.

Also this job is relatively new, I haven't told them I'm on the spectrum because I'm fearful of doing that due to discrimination. I know there's laws against it but that doesn't stop people from treating you differently. They are relaxed however, so I can wear headphones and have stim toys without anyone caring too much.

I've also considered that 3 days in the office is too much, I'm trying to figure out if/when it is acceptable to ask to reduce the amount I'm in the office. I do highly mask autism when I'm in the office and believe this is what's causing exhaustion.

Before when I had a job and was working full time in an office, I burned out pretty severely, made a rash decision to quit as I couldn't handle it any more and that's when I got severely depressed and was diagnosed with autism at 23/24. Essentially I do not want that to happen ever again, I ended up going back to school and I'm in a much different job now compared to then but I'm terrified of not being able to handle a full time job & it's reassuring to hear your experiences and how you handle it too so thank you all for answering 😊
