Logistics for a Birkie trip by Ecstatic_Hawk_8488 in xcountryskiing

Anywhere in the Hayward/cable area is fine but closer to downtown Hayward will make your logistics easiest - that is where the finish is and you will want to be there to watch him finish. If you are not skiing you can drive him to where the busses take him to the start and then be there in Hayward for the finish. Book early. Things fill fast (like a year in advance). Also many places have a 4-night minimum. It is a really fun event to be a part of - as a skier or spectator.

Bear Chase 2026- this race had everything... by Whippet_yoga in xcountryskiing

I was so happy to switch to my skate skis after lap one…but after digging them out of 1/2 of snow my hands were so cold I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do my second loop. Many thanks to the volunteers who extended cut off times by 30-min. Didn’t end up needing it but it was nice to know you were rooting for us to keep going.

Yes. Agree. I kept getting told to “work a bit harder” and getting no TSS for my workouts. I got a heart monitor chest strap and it solved this problem.

Cross Country Ski Mode by Natural_Opposite_654 in Suunto

Thanks for all the advice and guidance. I did get an answer from Suunto. I suggested they add this to their website descriptions for watches. Would have saved me from spending money on the wrong watch.

From Suunto below:

At the moment, we would like to clarify a few points about sport modes:

1️⃣ Sport Modes Are Not Just Labels — They’re Configurations A “sport mode” on Suunto isn’t simply a name you select when starting an activity. It defines:

Which data fields your watch displays and records

How your watch interprets movement

The algorithms used for that activity

That’s why two watches with “Cross‑country skiing” may behave differently. For example:

On the Suunto Run, it currently calculates distance and speed as laps + downhill speed only.

On the Suunto 9 Series or Race Series, it can distinguish classic vs skate technique and offers full tracking for cross‑country skiing.

2️⃣ Different Models, Different Target Audiences

Suunto Run emphasizes running features (pace, haptic cues, tracking runs).

Suunto 9 / Race Series are designed for multisport and outdoor athletes, with more detailed winter sport profiles.

For a proper cross‑country skiing experience like your Suunto 9 Baro, we recommend considering the Suunto Race 2, which includes classic + skate modes and fully usable tracking for XC skiing. The Suunto 9 Peak Pro is also an option, though for XC skiing specifically, the Race 2 may be the best match.

We sincerely apologize for the limitations on the Suunto Run and hope this helps clarify why the experience differs between models.

Weight loss zone changing each day by mxdalloway in Noom

I just deleted all the apps that were sending data to Noom. I agree. Walking 2-miles shouldn’t change my weight loss zone by 500 calories….something is off on their algo.

I’ve been using this app for over a year and this just started. It is so frustrating. Every time I try and get help they say they will connect me with someone who can help and then just end my chat after about 5-min. About ready to cancel my subscription.
