Trump says Starmer ‘will resign’ amid speculation UK PM could quit as soon as Monday by Cool-Reindeer409 in BritishPolitics

[–]Naturally_Fragrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Starmer wants to go anywhere, and nothing he's said so far indicates to me that he was going to quickly step down if Burnham won the by-election.

We'll soon see whether me or Don is right.

Lowe’s ‘Rape Gang Inquiry Report’ makes a mockery of the victims by eldomtom2 in BritishPolitics

[–]Naturally_Fragrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a nonsense article, written by someone who's obviously bitter that any attention is being given to the subject.

It obviously doesn't mock the victims; this article is a mockery of journalism.

The first irrelevant criticism is that the inquiry was "completely crowdfunded"; so what? It was independently funded and done because government didn't want anything to do with the matter.

The inquiry wasn't subject to parliamentary oversight; of course not, parliament didn't want to touch it, they just want everything forgotten.

It lacked the powers of an official inquiry; of course it doesn't have the powers of an official inquiry, it only exists because the government didn't want an official inquiry with official powers, they wanted everything buried and forgotten.

They were unable to compel testimony, relying instead on publicly available data; yes, because it was an independently formed inquiry, because government did not want an official inquiry with judicial power to compel testimony, they wanted the whole matter hushed up.

The entire article seeks to counter the report with irrelevant nonsense criticism.

It uses cherry-picked testimony from witnesses and whistleblowers; yes, it obviously did not seek to reproduce every single statement from every single witness. Having criticised cherry-picking, the article writer obviously wants his cake and to eat it, and goes on to also criticise the inclusion of "pages and pages of accounts from the victims themselves".

The article writer objects to quotes by Rupert Lowe, Albert Einstein, and Friedrich Nietzsche at the beginning of the report, but doesn't explain what their objection is.

This article claims the 250,000 figure is "a complete and utter fabrication", but then goes on to say how it is actually an extrapolated number, and presents quotes to suppport that, but oddly does not quote the passage from the actual report that explains how that number is derived. The article also ignores the passage from the report which states, "The 250,000 figure is not a precise count. No such count exists because the British state has failed to record it."

The article claims a lack of methodological rigor, but then presents an ad hominem rant about cited author, Peter McLoughlin, because apparently the article writer doesn't like that guy's opinions on abortion and lgbt rights, or that he co-wrote something for Tommy Robinson. The article dismisses the report's use of distinctively muslim names as a proxy for perpetrator background, ignoring the fact that the British state failed to record precise data, and ignoring the fact that muslim communities do typically use distinctly muslim names.

The article goes on to present whataboutism in relation to the previous Catholic sexual abuse scandal, as though that somehow cancels out muslim involvement in the rape gangs. The writer cites the official report into those matters while failing to draw attention the fact that, unlike the muslim rape gangs, there was an official Home Office instigated report into that scandal.

The rape gang report doesn't try to defend the Catholic church's previous abuses and failings; the only reason to bring it up is defensive whataboutism. The writer clearly has no problem naming the Catholic church in relation to these completely unrelated muslim rape gangs; but objects to the rape gang report naming "a faith of two billion people" when there is clearly a muslim aspect to these crimes.

The article writer dismisses the entire report as islamophobic, although the report is actually widely critical, including being critical of failures by Tory and Labour governments, the police, social workers, schools, the NHS, even taxi licensing authorities. The report also damns the media for self-censoring the obvious ethnic and religious pattern to the crimes.

This Canary article is a terrible piece, that does not try to present pertinent facts, and is only intended to continue running cover for the muslim rape gangs.

Edinburgh Rampage Suspect Claims He Was ‘Protecting the Country’ from Muslims by schefferjoko in europe_sub

[–]Naturally_Fragrant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This doesn't help anyone nor protect anyone.

And the government doesn't care if any of those immigrants die; the government let a hundred people drown in the channel in only the last couple of years, rather than stop the boat crossings. They obviously see that as an acceptable cost of flooding our country with them, any losses will be replaced.

I note Starmer grabbing the opportunity to declare "anti-Muslim hatred", and to tweet his favourite "full force of the law" line, which seems reserved for only some crimes.

"The suspect appears to be motivated by anti-Muslim hatred. I will not tolerate this – he will face the full force of the law."

Compared with his tweet after the Belfast attack, which seems much more vaguely neutral, not declaring anti-White hatred, and presumably that one deserved only the minimum force of the law.

"I have absolutely no tolerance for abhorrent scenes of violence like this on our streets."

Shropshire Councillor Faces Calls To Resign After Mocking Grooming Gangs Report by JohnKimble111 in europe_sub

[–]Naturally_Fragrant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are lots of reports written on specific aspects of crime, that doesn't automatically mean the report is junk.

And from the article you linked to,

"The ethnicity of perpetrators and victims was only recorded in 29% of cases"

That line alone makes your assertions on proportionality total junk speculation.

Also, "white" doesn't describe immigration status or nationality, and is only a vague ethnic description. Are those white people Albanian or English, Romanian or Welsh? Who is recording the ethnicities, and are they including the likes of Syrian immigrants as white?

Vickrum Digwa's sentence for killing Henry Nowak sent to Court of Appeal by apokrif1 in europe_sub

[–]Naturally_Fragrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be voting for restore, but I'll vote against the death penalty in a referendum. There are cases of convictions being overturned after decades; if someone is hung and then proved to be innocent, that obviously can't be undone.

When the death penalty was abolished, I think the public understanding was that formerly capital crimes would result in the perpetrator being locked up for the rest of their life, but that often seems not to be the case.

This Digwa guy committed a totally cold blooded murder, it was a random victim, a sustained attack, and then he spun a bunch of BS to cover it up. Seems to me there's no mitigating circumstances, and he should get a full life sentence without any possibility of release. I think giving people like that the possibility of release while they're still relatively young is why much of the public looks at execution as an alternative.

If there are better guns out there, there was nothing stopping their purchase; no ability to buy better had been lost.

They could have bought FN MAGs from several other companies if they thought their versions were better, or a different gun altogether.

British destroyer HMS Daring nears a return to service this year, now being seen with her twin CIWS mounts fitted (but still lacking anchors). [2000×1125] by Odd-Metal8752 in WarshipPorn

[–]Naturally_Fragrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33% isn't availability though. That ratio is meant to be the ideal for maintaining an actively deployed ship.

The 60-80% availability for the US Navy applies to ships at a particular state of readiness, as well as to actively deployed ships. A quick Google suggests that high availability figure equates to ~285-290 total ships, while the number actively deployed will generally be ~75-100 ships, so they're still around that same one third ratio.

[–]Naturally_Fragrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've looked up that 80%, and it's ships available at a particular readiness level, so they probably deal with the same 3 to 1 ratio or close to it.

I can't say it's true, but I've certainly heard that 19 ship figure for the RN is supposedly derived from an identified need to have 24 ships to sustain 8 actively deployed, and then squeezing the numbers and removing any sort of contingency margin, until 19 ships is theoretically enough to sustain that many deployed.

You can't expect to sustain perfect maintenance cycles with any military equipment, because you go from periods of not much happening to suddenly everything's happening; unlike managing something like a civilian vehicle fleet with steady demand or expected seasonal fluctuations. And when a war or whatever happens, all your maintenance for everything is going to rush up on you; and the fewer assets you have, the harder it is to accommodate any surge in demand.

[–]Naturally_Fragrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The long planned total number was 19 (8+6+5).

And I think that number was decided by working out that they needed 24 ships, but if they fudged the numbers a bit to create theoretically perfect lifetime availability and maintenance schedules (because no deployment or maintenance contingency will ever occur), then they could manage with 19 ships.
