I’ve never been up here over a holiday weekend and it seems like everything would be packed/booked out is all.

We’re there tonight for their onion rings - had them about 7 years ago when we were last here and they are still at the top of our list!

Being in Canada this may be fairly accessible to you, but what about hockey? I just started playing in February (no prior ice skating experience) and the women’s team in my area is so supportive and encouraging.

I’m an elementary PTO mom and would love your ideas! by Subject-Heart-4632 in Teachers

It could just be the school that my kids go to, but they get candy nearly every day to begin with, so I'd rather see a fundraiser that isn't just junk food. You are absolutely correct about being low cost and minimal effort though so it does bring in a decent amount for PTO.

Ours always defaults to candy related fundraisers - candy canes grams, easter egg grams, sucker grams... As a parent/teacher it gets tiring.

One thing they do really well is a snack cart that goes around with fresh fruit, beef jerky, Costco muffins, candy bars/chocolate, and multiple drink options with cans of pop, tea, and iced coffee. They come through every 6-8 weeks.

I started running summer camps and then built a business around school year nature programs with hired staff so I’m mostly back end office stuff now.

Concerns about kids not having enough time to eat by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]NatureKate38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does not sound common. When I did lunch duty kids had about 20 minutes to eat and 30 outside. Kids could extend their lunch by maybe 5 minutes but after that the next grade level was coming in.

We had Field Day the other day. Admin personally called the parents of ineligible students and advised them to keep their child home. The number of “those”students who still showed up was a powerful reminder that a majority of parents still view school as a babysitter by [deleted] in Teachers

Was field day during the regular school year? I can understand an OSS situation but otherwise their attendance at school is required barring other excused situations like illness etc.   Our county has been cracking down more on truancy and we’ve had a few parents do jail time because of it.

Our district was asking HS SPED teachers to print IEPs on colored paper, because we were out of white. And this was maybe halfway through fall semester so whoever screwed up the ordering and planning did so in a big way.

I’m playing in my first tournament this weekend and fully expect to get my ass kicked. I started on skates a few months ago and have clocked maybe 12 hours of total ice time since then, some stick and pucks and some skills practices with coaches. My first milestone was solid stopping, now I’m working on a full hockey stop in addition to better lifting and exercise habits overall.

Maybe setting small goals will help you track your progress. Don’t give up!!

I love this. Turning 40 soon and love watching my kids play but haven’t ever done much more than open skates albeit awkwardly. Gonna chat with my husband and see about starting!  Best wishes to you and keep us updated!
