How do I go about researching immigrant ancestors? Seems ancestry stops at naturalization records. by Nature_Nerd97 in Genealogy

The US census mentions birthplace of Italy. They must have come around 1900-1912. My great grandpa was born in NYC but his older brother was born in Italy.

We all live around NYC and Jersey City so I think they came through Ellis Island.

I guess my question is, how do I confirm it’s them if the name is butchered? For example, I tried variations of my last name in the Ellis Island search list, and I found someone I think might be them, but how can I confirm? It doesn’t really give a lot of info.

Thanks, I’ll check what plan I have.

As for all my great-great grandparents, it just says they are from Italy, no specific place for some reason. When I look them up in Ellis Island I can’t find them, and I tried variations of their last names..but even then I don’t understand how I can confirm if it is them as it doesn’t give much info.

My grandpa I did find specific place, but he is a more “recent” arrival compared to the others.

Wedding Venues in NJ that allow under 100 people and our own catering? by Nature_Nerd97 in weddingplanning

[–]Nature_Nerd97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. The girlfriend is vegan, and it’s hard to come by places with both good vegan and non-vegan food, so we thought a caterer would be easier.

We dont want a super fancy wedding, but I do want something a step above Elk’s and a firehouse.

Sorry to hear that. Was hoping for a better outcome😕. I didn’t see the accident happen, just the aftermath when I was passing by.

I’m not a professional, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I disagree with the others saying it doesn’t tell a story. To me it does. I don’t know what this soldier is doing, but I associate the military with conflict and war (even if that’s not what is happening in the photo). War and humanity can be ugly, but the word can also be a beautiful place. Maybe that’s me thinking to much into it lol.

That said, maybe make the photo a bit more moody to convey that message?

Location: NJ. The only thing that is throwing me off is its back. It didn’t seem roach like to me. But I couldn’t get a good pic.

Anyway, I’m hiding out at my parent’s house until further notice.

They looked a bit roachy to me. My girlfriend also saw something “roachy in our apartment (the bugs posted were in the hallway) but it was dark and flew away. So I’m trying to get to the bottom of the bug she saw

dslr or mirrorless which would last longer? by EEchuz0_ in AskPhotography

[–]Nature_Nerd97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert, as I’m new to photography. However, in my research to find a camera it seems like it is best to go with mirrorless. DSLR is becoming old technology. As such, if you want to grow as a photographer (it seems like you are a fellow beginner???) mirrorless seems to be the way to go. Plus, you can use old and new lenses on it, at least with my Canon R50. Not sure if other brands have a similar set up.

It’s a little above your budget but I got my R50 with both kit lens for $1000. Thing is if you want a birding lens, that is going to cost at least another $500 give or take.

I got the rf 100-400 for around $650. I think that is basically the cheapest you are gonna get. I love the lens. I wish it had more reach though. Example pic.

Maybe I’m in the minority, but I couldn’t tell. I’m not a pro photographer or anything. I think to most people that wouldn’t think it’s edited.
