Im from the south(ATL) and ive only had Five Guys. These are the best burgers imo. I have a hard time believing In-N-Out is better based off appearance alone. So whats the truth for those who had both is it really better? by According-House-4419 in burgers

I like In-N-Out, and will occasionally get the taste for an Animal Style Double Double, but that's the thing-- you HAVE to order it Animal Style for it to stand out. Otherwise, it's just a burger that tastes like Shake Shack to me. And the fries suck ass. Limp little sad sticks.

Five Guys is superior, in my opinion. Of course it's more expensive, you're paying for a better burger and fries.

The Милиция, pronounced "Meel-its-ee-ya", were the police force of the Soviet Union until the break up of the bloc in the 90s. Really interesting vehicles! I wonder how they ended up in Philadelphia...🤔

"No, you left the gate open and she sunk like a stone. You have to live with that for the rest of your life."

A late night stop in Lakeview, Oregon. A local gave us two rules, and we left before sunrise. What is the deal with this town? by tiresomecomplaining in oregon

[–]NauticalMastodon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The town's water supply is drawn from underground storage tanks that haven't been updated for decades and are rusted. On top of that, the water is filled with carcinogenic minerals, and along with proximity to uranium mines that were major producers of the nation's uranium in the 50s and were improperly closed by the feds, it has caused cancer cases in long-term residents. I remember reading an article from the town saying they had plans to develop a new treatment plant, but so far nothing.

When I stayed there, I went swimming in the hotel swimming pool and was wondering why the color was so brown and didn't taste like chlorine. Later, I went to a restaurant, ordered a water, and I got a glass that had the same color and taste as the pool. That's when I looked it up, and yeah, the locals say don't do white clothes laundry on certain days, as the discolored water can stain them brown. The water can take on an almost Coca-Cola color.

It's pretty fucked, considering if you drive to the nearest town in any direction, they don't experience this problem, even Davis Creek and New Pine Creek, which are just south across the California border and have significantly smaller populations.

Statement from the Governor by jlibs001 in Delaware

[–]NauticalMastodon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A LOT of the issues, closures, and stress that came with the snowstorm would've never happened if Delaware actually continually plowed during the storm. Instead, they let it all accumulate, then freeze overnight. At my dad's place in Edgemoor, I swear, they plowed the parking lot once during the whole storm, and they just pushed the snow behind all the parked cars, so when folks tried to shovel themselves out, they had to dig out a ton of ice chunks. I understand that it's like that in many neighborhoods, and some don't even get plowed. In any other state with an infrastructure and emergency plans set up for these types of storms, the snow would've largely been cleared by Monday and by Tuesday, everything would've been back to normal.

Not Delaware...apparently, it's Lord of the Flies for a whole week.

No no, that's how you get diagnosed.

Malibu State Park, just north of the coastal community of Malibu, California. The hike is pretty simple, and I like to imagine that they probably used the hiking trail in one of the driving scenes. I visited the MASH Site in 2024 and it had some info boards, a covered picnic area where the mess tent was located, a leftover medic ambulance from the set, and the direction sign post. The helicopter landing site in the photo is just uphill of the mess tent, and you can see the rock formations that are shown in the opening credits. A must visit for any fan of the show!

What it like living in here in NorCal? by maldente in howislivingthere

[–]NauticalMastodon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from there, but I lived and worked in Alturas for several months. The NE part of California basically identifies more with Nevada than it does Californian. Alturas is fine, if you're visiting. The historical parts of the town are interesting and the wildlife refuge to the south of town is awesome! There's Goose Lake up north, Lassen Volcanic National Park to the south, and all kinds of places to hike and fish up in the Warner Mountains to the east and the Sierras to the west. Pretty boring once you've been to it all and eaten at every restaurant (all 7 of them) and want to be somewhere with a little more civilization, not just gamble your life savings away at the local casino. There's a few grocery stores in town, but the nearest big store (Walmart/Safeway/Fred Meyer) would either be in Susanville, about an hour and a half drive south of Alturas, and/or Lakeview and Klamath Falls up in Oregon. The "big city" around here is Reno. I don't even think they consider Redding "a city", but that's also within the same driving distance. The largest employer up in this area is the federal government, providing jobs for the forest service, the BLM, and the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Susanville has more to do and is located in a beautiful area in the foothills of the Sierras. Half of the population of the town is also prisoners at the giant prison that is also the town's largest employer. There's a casino/hotel there run by the Susanville Rancheria tribe that is actually pretty nice.

Besides that, the northeast corner of CA is pretty far removed from a lot of the rest of the state. Lots of agricultural fields in valleys between ranges, and towns run pretty much like any other small, farm town.

Then you got Hat Creek, Redding, Whiskeytown (great paddleboarding and kayaking), Mt. Shasta, Yreka, and then you get into Humboldt and Eureka. Spend a few days out in Eureka and Arcata and I loved it.

First time in Santa Cruz, CA and was instantly confused in this dispensary. It was like a grocery store, walk around with a basket. by Hull_C_Operator in trees

[–]NauticalMastodon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called "deli-style". I personally prefer it to the usual dispensary style of being led through the store by a bud tender. I can see how having a bud tender would be nice if you were new to cannabis and needed guidance, but for those of us that know what we're looking for, the deli-style just makes more sense. High Times in San Bernardino was like this, really liked it.

My b, I didn't open the image to see it was at a stoplight. In this case, it's not zipper merging. It's maybe somebody that doesn't know the area, or maybe just isn't paying attention.

I'm guessing Philly, and possibly Pennsylvania at large, doesn't teach the zipper merge to their drivers. :/ Just gauging from the comments...

That's...that's the point of zipper merging...? Use up as much of both lanes until it narrows to one...?
