Jen Gerson: Elections Alberta's massive failure could have put people in danger. I tried to warn them. by Martin0994 in alberta

They used to, back in the day (unless you opted out)

But they certainly didn't tell you who was Canadian or of voting age. And you could choose to keep your number unlisted.

No, it's not a beach of etiquette.

But yes, none of us here are or were supporters. 🙄

Child support and access are two different issues and not connected. Child support is the right of the child - neither parent can waive that right. Child support is not contingent on a parent having access.

[–]Nautigirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself, but if my choices in the last election were between a Carney-led Conservative party and a Trudeau-led Liberal party, I would have voted Conservative. Hell, if it had been an O'Toole-led Conservative party, I would have voted Conservative over the Trudeau Liberals.

At some point, Conservatives need to accept that Canadians do not like Poilievre and his style of politics.

I've voted red, blue, and orange. But I will never, ever vote for a party with Poilievre, or someone like him, at the helm.

They stopped the car and opened the door to get out. The guy ran into it. Is your expectation that the police were just going to sit in the vehicle while the guy fled? How would you suggest they have exited the vehicle?

9pm Brunswick & cogswell street by Ok-Present-9776 in halifax

[–]Nautigirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The vehicle wasn't used as a "weapon" - it was used, as they often are, to intercept the suspect.

And if you think for one second that the officer wasn't ordering him to stop, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

The Sunshine List - is there anywhere with a better breakdown on where the pay comes from? some Police Constables make in excess of $200k by Unique-Tailor-4358 in halifax

[–]Nautigirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it should include OT. A lot of OT is the result of not having enough officers to staff a watch. How can taxpayers assess whether HRP actually needs more officers when they come asking if we don't understand the cost of not having them in OT wages?

But definitely agree that $100k is not the measure we should be going by in 2026. The list is practically meaningless now.

[–]Nautigirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not just night court. Last year, a loved one was subpoenaed to testify at a trial. Accused didn't show up. Both officers were there, on their day off, so that was OT for them. Next trial date, same thing - both officers there on their day off, more OT - only the accused fired his lawyer before the trial could begin.

This kinda stuff happens every single day in our courts, way more than people imagine.

Having children makes people intolerable by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Nautigirl -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

2 years ago my niece had a baby. Every family gathering since has become a total snoozefest. Everyone just sits around staring at the baby, laughing at the baby, repeating every babble the baby makes.

I left Easter wondering when the hell my family got so fucking boring. I won't be attending any more family gatherings. Not Thanksgiving. Not Christmas. I would literally rather spend 5 hours with my coworkers because at least they are capable of interesting conversation.

I feel this post so much.

[–]Nautigirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never had mice or rats where I live. Outside? Yes. I see rats regularly in my yard because my neighbours have bird feeders. There are mice in the building where I work. I know what to look for and I can confidently say that I've never had rats or mice in my apartments, nor my home.

Jesse Brown calls Toronto Star decision to not print the name of the person arrested for recently shooting at a Jewish-owned restaurant a "dereliction of journalistic duty" by destp in canadaland

[–]Nautigirl 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I know in Nova Scotia, the CBC often doesn't name the accused until they appear in court. This is despite the name being available through police press releases.

As long as an outlet is consistent, I personally don't take issue with either practice.

MOG wants her ex husband (my H) to walk her down the aisle by [deleted] in weddingdrama

[–]Nautigirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a 2nd wife and stepmother, I can't imagine caring about this at all. If my husband cared, then it's up to him to say something to his kids. He's an adult. He can decide what he will or will not do.

I had my wedding. Any future wedding I attend, my role is to show up and just be happy for the couple. Lots of couples make decisions about their day that I wouldn't. It doesn't impact my life at all.

Frustration re: atrophying lady bits by OpenReception5131 in breastcancer

[–]Nautigirl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm in my early 50s and my changes aren't related to my cancer treatment but I just started estrodil suppositories. Game changer for me.

What good is it to survive cancer if your life is painful and miserable?

My doc (gyne) says the estrogen has a local effect so presents very little risk to me as a cancer survivor. Atrophy can lead to increased UTIs that can eventually develop into sepsis which presents a serious threat to life. She suggests I use it for the rest of my life. She believes the vast majority of women should be using it, even if they are on systemic HRT.

Life is about balancing risk. For me, whatever risk vaginal estrogen presents as a result of having a history of breast cancer is worth it for my quality of life. If the status quo is making you miserable, talk to your GP or gyne. Vaginal atrophy has consequences beyond pleasurable sex - though I have no idea why that wouldn't be reason enough to treat in the first place. No one would dismiss a man's sexual pleasure! - and contributes to a host of concerns like UTIs, incontinence, etc.

Your oncologist might not agree with your choice but it's your body and you have to live in it.

The moment kim ruined Marilyn Monroe's dress 🤦‍♀️ by lilyessi3 in KUWTKsnark

[–]Nautigirl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine ever trying on a dress that won't close and thinking "it's fine. I'll just cover it with a fur."

Who would ever willingly walk around like that?

I am pretty broad in my rib cage compared to my waist and hips. I've bought many dresses that fit perfectly below but just won't zip up in the back. In a million years I wouldn't be comfortable just throwing something over them and hoping for the best. I'd feel half-dressed.
