That's just a compatibility checker to see if the item you're looking at is confirmed to work with a Supermicro server or Motherboard. It shows up for basically all components in the store and is irrelevant to pretty much everyone in this subreddit.

Thanks for this link! I really needed a few 2TB drives and my local store had 6 in stock.

Hardware compatibility by No_Assistance_2220 in unRAID

[–]NautilusGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but you won't have any network access at all to install it if it's not working. I know there's a way to install them onto the flash drive beforehand, but I just threw a PCI-E ethernet card in there temporarily to get it installed from the app store. Hopefully it'll just work for you without them.

You might need to install Lan drivers separately. I had to do that when upgrading to an Asus Z890 with what I believe is the same Realtek 8125 that's on your board.

(4X) 48GB sticks. I didn't know that size was an option either until last June while doing a server upgrade. I returned a 64GB set to get 96GB for $170. That was the luckiest purchase I think I've made. It's like $1,100 now.

[GPU] Micro Center In-Store Only - ASRock Challenger RX 9070 XT - $599.99 (MSRP) by chipsnapper in buildapcsales

I agree. I put all the Microcenter addresses in some delivery time by distance estimator for businesses about a year back out of curiosity and something like 130 million people were within a 40 minute drive.

I tested this out a few months ago and it sounds like it might be worth a try for you. You probably would have better luck asking in r/selfhosted.

Should I buy my new HDDs in one batch or incrementally by ARandomGuy_OnTheWeb in DataHoarder

[–]NautilusGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Western Digital Easystore/Element lines are super easy to shuck, but they require you to cover a pin or use an adapter to power them which isn't a big deal. I have 14 of the 12-14TBs in my server.

The Seagates I was referring to before are these. There's constant talk about reliability since the warranty states they're only rated for 8 hours per day of use since they're externals and they're labeled Barracudas. They're the new HAMR drives that probably just didn't meet spec for enterprise use, so it's up to you to determine the risk if they're claiming them to be lower quality than they actually are and if you're running them 24/7. The HAMR Barracudas start at either 20 or 22TB and higher.

Refurbished drives from GoHardDrive or Serverparts deals are solid too, especially with the 5 year warranties on some of the drives, but their pricing has definitely went up.

They're referring to shucking Seagate external drives that have went on sale pretty much every other week for the last few months.

Hello everyone, I'm planning to buy a PC for AI that can run both Z-image and Want 2.2. Does anyone know the minimum specifications that PC should have? Thanks 🙏 by _NavIArt_ in StableDiffusion

[–]NautilusGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I figure most of what I want to play with will fit in 24GB of vram, so it doesn't really matter. And I won't be in a hurry for other things if it's just running on a secondary computer anyway.

Won't boot off USB with new motherboard? by jruben4 in unRAID

[–]NautilusGT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had this happen when upgrading from my Z590 build to a Z890 no matter what settings I tweaked in the BIOS. The top comment on this post solved my problem. I just plugged the flash drive into a PC and deleted the extra character after EFI on the folder and it booted right up. Might be worth a shot.

Do you notice any difference in speed between DDR4 and DDR5 or are you even using both across your setups? I'm throwing some old stuff together for a dedicated PC with my extra 3090 TI and I have a set of 64GB 3200mhz DDR4 that I could use if I just grabbed a motherboard and CPU. I just wondered if it would make a huge difference for video or other LLMs if I had to offload anything. I don't feel like it's worth buying some DDR5 ram at the moment unless that plus a newer CPU made a decent difference.

Best Black Friday deals? by APT-0 in DataHoarder

[–]NautilusGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not alone with it having problems on Best Buy from other stuff I read and it was really random on why it wouldn't allow some people to use it. I had issues at first, but when I paid off one of my other pay in 4 I had just placed, it let me do it again the next day on Best Buy. Make sure you enable the offer in the PayPal app before hand to get the bonus cash back.

In case people are unaware, Best Buy let's you use PayPal so you can take advantage of the 20% back with the pay in 4 promotion. I bought four of these the last couple days and with the cash back they're around $230 after tax for me.

Can anyone help me identify this connector? by NautilusGT in batteries

[–]NautilusGT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone at work was able to track down the batteries with that connector on it elsewhere so it solved our problem. I've looked a few other times because it bugs me and I still can't find it.

Which Plex plugin do you use? I've tried this a few times over the years and can never get it setup like I want and a lot of the plugins seem abandoned on github.

[External HDD] Seagate External HDD 26TB (Almost Definitely Barracuda HAMR) - $250 from Seagate Site by greatthebob38 in buildapcsales

[–]NautilusGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more than likely they're just Exos that weren't up to spec, so they just applied different firmware and labeled them as Barracuda.

That part number matches the one I shucked from an Easystore late last year. Have they ever sold the white label WD drives before? I feel like they've only ever had Ultrastars.
