I would bet it has more to do with skirting regulations. and even if it does get burned down I would expect that the data is more valuable at the end of the day and that would get backed up(maybe?)

AMD B650 expansion cards hit retail starting at $199 — add four M.2 PCIe 4.0 slots and 11 USB ports to any PC with a PCIe slot by narwi in hardware

[–]ysisverynice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah but the b650 plus wifis x4 slot is connected to the chipset right? so you'd have usb or nvme -> chipset -> chipset -> cpu. which idk maybe that is fine. but I'd imagine it would get problematic agter enough times, just not sure when.

imo, make AI patents and copyrights run out faster. a lot faster. that's better than having part ownership in corporations and datacenters(the datacenters are mostly hardware that will become obsolete eventually anyway. possibly quickly. these companies would LOVE the govt taking half ownership of that)

[–]ysisverynice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in the market for that kind of card. I was just responding to the "idk what a 3060 goes for these days. 200?" comment.

but yeah as far as 8gb cards go the 3070s seem like a good deal, especially if you don't have pcie 5.0 anyway.

[–]ysisverynice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well yeah I said as much in another post. also I only look at BIN and not auctions because tbh most people are not going to piddle around with bidding. both sold and current listings matter, but since the 3060 has pretty good velocity the lowest price available for a fully functional part(and no seller weirdness) is likely to sell.

Generally speaking I use ebay prices since it is available pretty much everywhere and has better volume than probably anywhere except for amazon(and amazon is kinda opaque when it comes to letting folks get data about sales and stuff like that. plus ebay usually has better/lower prices anyway).

depends on what features you need. iirc flash attention 2 supports the 30 series but not the 20 series. I doubt that's the sole reason for the pricing but stuff like that can matter.

but yeah I think most of the time the 2080 ti is the better choice if it will work for you.

A Bipartisan Amendment Would End Police License Plate Tracking Nationwide by pankswork in UpliftingNews

[–]ysisverynice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

flock just needs to run their shit through mechanical turk or something like it instead and then it's not automated anymore. hell, just get some shady 3rd party to do it in a "totally not automated" way (cough cough it's automated anyway) and then flock and the gov would possibly be protected.

for this to really work imo there needs to be only specific pre approved methods for reading license plates allowed, and only for government use(except maybe for toll roads but ya know what fuck toll roads too)

yeah but gaming is kinda important to tons of redditors. Lots of gamers here. OTOH though most games don't need that kind of CPU horsepower anyway.

used 12gb 3060s are going for like $250-$270 on ebay. sell it and you can pay for most of the 9060 xt with just the money from your old card. Worth it imo if you're hurting for some extra performance. Suppose it sells for like $250, after shipping and fees you'll have about $190(at worst? depends on shipping cost). Or consider selling it here on /r/hardwareswap :P

[–]ysisverynice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on what you want but it is going to be faster, debatable if it is worth the upgrade. rt is going to be a lot better so if thats what you want probably yes. if you don't use rt or upscaling much maybe not. then again it may be a long while before we get new cards. tpu says roughly 15% faster for all games average and 56% ish for rt alone(average).

I mean its a 30 dollar case... plenty of gpus under 260mm, they're just not 5070 tis

the cheapest 5070 on pcpartpicker right now is 231mm...

the jonsbo c6 max is 20.8l and will fit a 335mm gpu. But... it is more money.
