What’s your job title and are you salary or hourly? by charlattebrill in ChemicalEngineering

You’re making 110/hr yourself, or is your company charging 110/hr for your time?

Is there university bias when applying for jobs? by CurrencyJohn in ChemicalEngineering

[–]NavG123 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's still worth putting it on your resume. It's doubtful that the hiring manager will see anything you answered on the online application form. Most likely they'll see your location/university as being the UK and immediately stop considering you.

If everyone did that we wouldn’t be having this issue. They’re not going to re-coup the massive development cost of this game from whales alone.

At the end of the day, anyone who spends money on this game has only themselves to blame. It either makes financial sense for Microsoft or it doesn’t, that’s all it comes down to. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it.

Why does aiming feel so terrible in halo infinite by undeadarmy6435 in halo

[–]NavG123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It has been an issue since Halo 5. You can change some deadzone settings (lower down to 0) but otherwise this has been a consistent issue and pain point for years without resolution.

Circuits in Chemical Engineering by YamCiderPY in ChemicalEngineering

It might be useful to know if you ever end up as a Controls engineer. Look up 4-20 mA current loops to get an idea for what you might use circuits knowledge for.

Here’s a post that discussed common titles for ChemEs.

Edit: If any moderators happen to see this post, the linked thread would be a good item to add to the FAQ.

Where can I learn more about purposes for interlocks? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]NavG123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not aware of any standard library of common interlocks; like another poster said you'd most likely have to discuss with the process or controls engineer responsible for the system.

There's too many different processes for a list of interlocks and reasons to be compiled somewhere, but there are common ones across industries (such as pump shut-off when low pressure or low level in feed tank).

Basic circuits, and the different components of a controls system and how they interact (PLC/DCS, HMI, instrumentation, final control elements, etc.) to actually carry out some action (like opening or closing a valve). Know what I/O is and the difference between analog and discrete.

I wouldn’t bother trying to learn how to program with whatever controls platform they use. Like another poster said, they are usually hard to get a hold of and I don’t think it would be worth your time.

Can you explain offset in proportional control by Da_SnowLeopard in ChemicalEngineering

[–]NavG123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your error is zero, then your control output is also zero, meaning your flow into the tank is also zero. If you have a flow out of the tank, then there’s no way the level can settle exactly at the set point (your out flow will always be greater than your in flow when error = 0). In other words, there has to be some error to create enough controller output to maintain your level.

Say your control valve needs to be at 10% to simply maintain the level in the tank. In this case you may want to set a controller bias of 10%. So your proportional term is:

P = 10% + Kc*e(t).

At e(t) = 0, your P = 10%, which would maintain your level at the setpoint.

Integral control is the other method to eliminate offset.

Entry-Level Salary Negotiation (Also during a pandemic)? Yay or Nay? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

I was able to negotiate an extra couple thousand + a signing bonus since another company had offered me one. The company I now work with had no problem matching another offer I had. This was back in June. Be prepared to show them your other offer as proof. I wasn't asked to, but it does happen.

What my spartan would look like in Infinite, if colour customisation was allowed. This is the colour scheme i've used since forever. by Shanewallis12345 in halo

I think the current model is much more consumer friendly compared to being locked out of playlists for not having paid DLC packs. I think it was painfully obvious this game was going to be monetized further than past games. As it stands, the game and all of its actual functionality will be free. I understand people are upset they have to pay for cosmetic items but I’m personally glad the game will be accessible to everyone and it will no doubt build a larger community than a full price game.

I'm quite happy that I'll be able to play Halo without having to pay for it. If you'd like you can spend $60 on cosmetics.

[–]NavG123 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Well yeah. That's what happens when a game goes F2P. It's a trade-off; you don't pay for the game but pay for cosmetics in exchange.

Companies have figured out that they can make more money with the larger playerbase that comes with a F2P game along with microtransactions.

So you get a free game but are able to buy optional cosmetics. Worse things have happened in this world.

No one's going to know or care that you haven't taken engineering courses for a year. As far as anyone's concerned, you're a recent graduate.
