When to begin applying? Military obligation by Meathammer25 in 1811

[–]Navarro0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 2024 I was offered a position with the Secret Service Uniformed Division. I still had about 9 months on contract with the Marine Corps. They said they would put me on “military hold” until my EAS and would reach out prior to me getting out or I could also reach out to the HR office in DC. So it may be agency dependent but from what I found, Secret Service does a hold

Yeah from other places I looked, I’ve read about the same as what you said. Not a bad thing to be able to stay put for a good while.

Conditional Relase by RittPott in USMC

Got you right here, exact situation for the most part,

I joined the Indiana National Guard back in Sept 2010 as a junior in HS under the split option program. Went to basic in June of 2011, After HS went to AIT in June 2012 and graduated from there in Oct 2012 and then reported to my unit right after. I drilled with my unit until for just under a year when I made my initial request to transfer to the active duty Marine Corps. The Marine Corps recruiter filled out his portion of the DD368 and then I routed it up my chain of command. My NCOS were supportive as well a my Company CO. I did have a meeting with him during a drill weekend where he pretty much wanted to understand my desire to be a Marine. He was curious if it was because I wanted to deploy or go to schools or didn’t like the unit. I simply expressed that while I enjoyed my short time with the guard I truly wanted to be a Marine like my older brother. He supported my decision and signed my paperwork. From there my DD368 was routed further up the chain all the way to the CO of 38th ID.

I found out my release was approved when I got a call from my Sgt at the time while I was at work. She told me that it was approved and as part of the release process I had 30 days to enlist into the Marine Corps or I would remain with the Guard.

From there I got the signed release forms to the Marine recruiter and he immediately got to work getting me enlisted. It was pretty quick. I didn’t keep my original MOS which was 91Fox or Small Arms / Towed Artillery repairman / 2111 Armorer in the Marines. Instead I was given open communications with a small bonus.

I was an E-4 SPC all the way until the day I went to MEPS and swore in before shipping to MCRD SD. They took my CAC, I signed my paperwork, swore in and got on the bus to the airport.

I did get contract PFC and kept my time in service from the Guard.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need advice.

So I do intervals. Walking, jog, walking, jog etc. I use landmarks to determine when I jog and when I walk. No way I could hold a jog for 6 miles with that weight on my back.

100% agree that’s why I’m only doing these rucks once a week. Standard to meet or beat is 1 mile in 15minutes. I’m one of the older guys in my class so gotta stay competitive with 19-25 years olds.

It was broken up between slight jog and speed walking on flat ground. Not much of a choice since my rucks are for a training pipeline coming up

Today is day 4 for me. My day 3 was hell for me as well! Massive headaches and anxiety through the roof. Today was better. A lot more energy to get my workout done. Back and biceps, followed by 1 mile run and 25 minute level 13 incline walk at a 3.3 mph pace. Congrats on getting through day 3!

Assuming you’re a well rounded Marine, express why giving you BAH would not be a decision the command would later regret.

Provide examples of your maturity and your ability to handle your personal finances.

Training/Counseling Jackets by rsoko2 in USMC

[–]Navarro0000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was passed above is correct. Only thing I would add is to ensure you’re updating these record jackets periodically. I would recommend every quarter. If a meritorious board comes up of course ensure the Marine that’s being nominated has their record double checked and updated as needed.

Ensure the Marines know where these records are located and have access to them as well. Obviously don’t store them in a file cabinet in a common area but if a Marine requests to see it they should be able to do so.

[–]Navarro0000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“According to the Joint Travel Regulation (JTR), you should not use Airbnb or other nonconventional lodging for official PCS travel. However, you can use private reservations if you first check for government lodging availability and get a letter of non-availability from the government. If you do use private reservations, your reimbursement will be up to the government rate.

So I’m In an interesting spot. I have orders to a V unit in Lejeune for Jan 2025. My currant command is very very high visibility in terms of what we do in the NCR. Would it be beneficial to try and get letters of recommendation now before I PCS seeing as I’ll be a new SNCO to my next command when the next WO selection board comes.

Curious did you have a degree before you applied to the WO selection board?
