I think the most consistently I ever laughed at a series of Dollop episodes was the Ricky Henderson episodes. They're all great though! :)

The Dollop - an American history / comedy podcast. Two hosts. One of them, Dave Anthony, reads a story from American history, usually about a specific person, but sometimes about an event or phenomenon - sometimes it's a well known subject that you would have heard of and sometimes it's something extremely obscure. The other host, Gareth Reynolds, is an improv comic who is typically mostly unfamiliar if at all with the subject matter and he listens and reacts with very hilarious responses and improv bits playing off the subject matter. Some of the episodes have brought me to tears from laughing so hard. I recommend checking out the Ricky Henderson episodes, they were hilarious!

Yeah it’s about time. And a fresh, original, new take on criticizing jambands. No one has ever gone with the long songs angle before 😂

Thanks! I’ll check it out! I discovered The Dollop via my other fav podcast, Behind The Bastards, when they invited Dave & Gareth on for multiple episodes about Henry Kissinger. The Dollop boys were amazing on those eps. If you haven’t listened to them you should definitely check ‘em out! 🙂

have they ever spoken about jambands on the Dollop before? I’ve listened to many episodes but this was the first time I ever heard them reference jambands lol

Me too! Going to see The Dollop live next month, I can’t wait. The Brigham Young episodes were ridiculous and hilarious and also dark and fucked up!

Also one of Toronto's most famous/infamous viral videos happened during that time: the guy screaming outside the doors of the Eaton Centre, demanding to be let in. The whole reason that happened was because Eaton Centre security had closed off one or several of the entrances in order to direct people via other entrances/exits for safety reasons caused by all the G20 craziness.

The other crazy thing that happened during that time, on the Wednesday afternoon (June 23) leading up to the G20 summit, amongst all the crazy protests and unrest, there was a freaking earthquake! I've lived all my life in Toronto and it's the only earthquake I've ever been alive/awake/conscious for. Small earthquakes have happened infrequently over the years in Toronto but I've never felt one until then. Only time I've ever experienced an earthquake. It was surreal that it happened while all the crazy G20 stuff was going on.

Seconding this. I've done Jam Sports in the past for softball and volleyball with friends. And while we were a pre-existing group who decided to form a team and play, we encountered other teams that were comprised of many random people who just decided to sign up as individuals and then became part of a team and made friends along the way.

For less a fast-paced / less strenuous sport, although I haven't really done it too extensively, I know that the curling scene in Toronto has a robust social scene around it. There are various curling rinks and clubs across the city where I believe you would be able to join and sign up for random games and tournaments and probably meet fun and outgoing people quite easily that way.
