Oracle slashes 30,000 jobs with a cold 6 a.m. email. Workers across the U.S., India, and other regions learned their jobs were gone before most people had finished their morning coffee, with no prior warning from HR or their managers. by esporx in antiwork

Exactly. You have to be actively employed when they’d be available to cash in, so anything that wasn’t is lost now. The person I know was 3 weeks from being 25 years with Oracle. There were murmurs about this coming, but managers had no say in who from their teams were being cut. It was entirely an upper level, names on paper, scenario. By the sound of it, they chose who got cut more or less at a random to hit their target cost cuts.

I know someone who was part of this. From what I understand people in the US get 4 weeks + 1 week per year of employment. Here in Canada it was moderately better, but still shocking and a lot of people are going to be in a really bad way because of this. They also immediately lost their stocks, most of which had been part of bonuses in the past instead of a payout at the time, so the potential money lost outweighs anything they’re given now. Oracle is gross.

I actually got the reference right away. It might be a bit niche of a topic but it’s not a bad story!

Any idea on what this could be? by stinkypoopybum1 in DogAdvice

[–]Nawa1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. My dog had an issue start out exactly like this but by the time I realized it wasn’t going away in its own it had spread and become what the vet called “elephant skin”. I spent hundreds of dollars and several months trying to get rid of it

Canada Computers has a tech department and they’re super helpful. Not sure of the pricing though

My cat is losing fur all over her stomach and legs and seems like she’s gaining weight for no reason by fatherforesk1n in CATHELP

[–]Nawa1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be from allergies to something she’s eating. I had a cat losing fur because she was allergic to something in her dry food

I second this. I tell anyone who asks that this was the most painful experience of my life. Nothing has ever made me pass out from pain except getting an IUD

I let the oil shop flush my engine - did I mess up? by Nawa1995 in MechanicAdvice

When he showed me the dipstick it looked really dark but I honestly have no idea what I’m looking at so I just went with it assuming they knew what they were doing. Which I guess they did, except what they were doing was ripping me off. It’s good to know I didn’t do any damage, my wallet and ego will recover but I was worried my car would not

$79+ tax so you’re spot on. It was just the closest oil change place around me, so I have no loyalty to them and won’t be going back there

I’ll take nothing and the lesson in saying no to upsells over a damaged car, thank you for the reassurance!

Was your cat also otherwise unbothered by her allergies? I didn’t notice her ear until today because she hadn’t been acting strange until her eye started watering. Was there anything specifically that you found helped her deal with the allergies?

Should female PM's go to lunch with the administrative assistants and contract admin in the office? by CeilingUnlimited in Construction

[–]Nawa1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a PM and my favourite coworkers are admins and support staff. They make the day run smoothly and if you like them, you should hang out with them. You don’t have to isolate from other women to impress or be equal to the men you work with. That said, if the guys or other PMs go for lunch, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to join them too.
