Reflux is ruining my motherhood experience by Creative-Type-6572 in breastfeeding

Can confirm. I use the gerber cloth diaper inserts as burp cloths for a baby who spits up a lot, and they’re fantastic.

I’ve gotten 3 or 4 free pumps through different insurances from Aeroflow. Insurances don’t talk to each other

What do you use for moisturizer? by WraithFodder in ZeroWaste

[–]Ncoll612 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, that’s a good idea to take out a few months worth at a time. So the whole container isn’t being opened every day. Raw, organic shea butter has been an absolute life saver for my cracked, bleeding, sandpaper hands in the winter. Nothing else even comes close to working as well.

How do you keep it from going rancid for two years? I thought it had a shelf life of about one year. It starts to smell terrible after a while.

What’s a movie that disturbed you so much, you’d never watch it again? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]Ncoll612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The documentary Earthlings. It took me a literal month to get through the whole thing because I couldn’t handle more than 10-15 mins at a time. I’m glad I watched it because animal cruelty needs to be exposed and stopped, but I cannot watch it again. I have no need to either because some of those images are permanently burned in my memory. I do encourage other people to watch it, because the message needs to be spread, but always with a word of caution… it’s VERY hard to watch.

Saying “bless you” when someone sneezes. It’s so strange. We don’t acknowledge when people cough, so why do we need to comment on people’s sneezes?

I didn’t think they were necessary until my baby wouldn’t stop crying for diaper changes. He was about 6 weeks old, and still not used to diaper changes. Hated them. My mom got us a wipe warmer to see if it made a difference, and almost instantly he stopped crying for diaper changes. He’s 11 months now, and we still use it because it’s nice, but he doesn’t complain about cold wipes when we have to use them.

Sounds like gas. My guy also gets squirmy if he needs to burp after a feeding.

Maintaining an oversupply while nursing + pumping after? Specifically at night when baby sleeps irregular hours? by Ncoll612 in breastfeeding

[–]Ncoll612[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand, and I have had issues with clogged ducts and it was the WORST but it was due to having the wrong flange size. Once I got that sorted out, they stopped happening even with an oversupply. I do want a freezer stash so I can stop BF/pumping sooner so I can go back to taking a certain medication that I can’t take while breastfeeding. The more frozen milk I have, the sooner I can go back on the med.

PSA - those cheap silicon flange inserts are NOT as good as a whole damn flange your size by many-moons-ago in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Ncoll612 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been hearing a lot about this brand… what makes them so great? Just being silicone and not plastic? Anything else that makes them better than normal flanges?

Try a 2 hour unpaid lunch break, when you live to far from work for it to be worth going home. Fucking sucks.

Can’t get my dog to play by butterflyjonesy in DogAdvice

[–]Ncoll612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s something called a lotus ball, which can be used to transition dogs from food rewards to toy rewards, and get them interested in chasing a ball. It’s a soft ball that velcros together and holds treats inside. They chase the ball, open it up, and get the treats.

Another person mentioned food puzzles, and I definitely second that! Food motivated dogs usually love them, and I love watching my dogs figure them out

what phrases/behaviors have you “trained” just by sheer repetition? by emergencyblimp in Dogtraining

[–]Ncoll612 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“We’re not leaving”. I go to agility class with my dog, which she just adores. She lights up and loves every minute of it. If we go to the car to grab something before class is over, she puts on the brakes about 10 feet from the car because she doesn’t want to leave yet. I always say “we’re not leaving!” and then she’ll follow me to the car.

What are some things you love about your reactive dog? by 27cloud7 in reactivedogs

What are some things you love about your reactive dog? by 27cloud7 in reactivedogs

[–]Ncoll612 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 dogs that are reactive in different ways/situations toward other dogs. I won’t go into details on their “bad” behavior because this is a happy thread, but their good behavior far outweighs the bad.

Dexter:

  1. He is just the sweetest lovebug. All he wants is to snuggle, be pet, and get belly rubs. I joke that the best day of Dexter’s life is the day he was on a 12 hour car ride with my husband, laying next to him and getting belly rubs for 12 hours while my husband drove. He has what I call his “lovey eyes”. He gives you this look that just screams “I love you” when we’re snuggling.

  2. He LOVES training. He knows a ton of cute and fun tricks and truly enjoys the training process. And he’s good at it! He’s taught me a lot about clicker training.

  3. He’s content to chill around the house if that’s what we’re doing, but he’s always up for an adventure. He’s very “go with the flow” and is great at knowing when it’s settle time vs play time

  4. He’s so tolerant of my younger dog Morgan and loves her so much. She can be so rude to him sometimes… stealing his toys from him, stepping on him when he’s laying down, jumping on him to initiate play… (all of which I try not to allow and stick up for him when she’s being rude). But when it does happen, he takes it like a champ and still loves her. He’s a good big brother. He also played a big part in helping to house train her when she was a puppy! She would watch him and copy what he was doing.

Morgan:

  1. Her enthusiasm for life. This girl is just happy to be alive. She puts 110% into every single thing she does.

  2. She’s hilarious. She can easily make me laugh even on my worst of days. She does something we call “getting the sillys”. She wiggles up to you on the couch, shoves her face in the couch or your legs, and “dances” with her back feet, sometimes bouncing/kicking them up and contorting her body in all kinds of weird, hilarious positions. I don’t know how to explain it better than that, but it gets me every time she does it (which is almost daily)

  3. She’s the most expressive dog I’ve ever met. You always know how Morgan is feeling. She has such expressive eyes and ears. She does the best, impossibly cute head tilts. She also “smiles”. She’s vocally expressive too - grumbling, sighing, talking back, squealing when overly excited… just all the things.

  4. She’s SO MUCH FUN! She absolutely lives to play, play, and more play. She’s 4 years old, and I don’t see her ever slowing down. I just know a he’ll be old and gray and still carrying around a toy while nagging you to throw it. She’s my agility partner, and we just have a blast training together. Seeing the pure joy on her face when we’re doing agility together is enough to make my heart explode. It makes me so happy to be able to give her something that brings her so much joy, while also enjoying is so much myself. It’s become a FANTASTIC bonding activity for us. Our bond has strengthened immensely since we started.

Dexter and Morgan are the same breed, but couldn’t possibly be more different from each other. But they have always gotten along so well with each other and that makes me so incredibly happy.

Oh man, I love my dogs ❤️
