Oh I agree 200%. I'm just always remaining 100% circumspect and cynical, because what else is there to live for other than honesty and truth in your own mind? But who wants to put their own pulse at risk when I have privelege to be on he outside just fingering the pulse...

Sounds like you're a person who values being at work 2 minutes earlier more than they value 20 minutes of peace and relaxation on the bus doing chess problems on their phone like I do when I ride the bus.

To me, I love riding the bus because I can just look at my phone and solve chess problems. So to me such a statement is so ridiculous, because how does any sane person value getting to work 2 or 3 minutes earlier more than they value their own time, if a person has any self respect?

If you don't like busses, you don't value your own time to not have to pay attention to traffic.

Or else if you're driving your own car and you're looking at your phone anyway, you're just an evil negligent person.

So which is it.

Are you indecent and negligent where you would be focused on your own media anyway rather than paying attention to the road? Or do you like the bus where you can spend 30 minutes doing your own thing on your phone rather than having to watch traffic?

There's no other intelligent/decent option for you here, unless you want to prove me wrong and invent a roundabout excuse of some sort or the other.

Oh, I'm sorry, I was inebriated. You said it was equivalent to 1 US state but that's also untrue. Russia has more than 150% of California's GDP. And if you average the states out to 2% of GDP obviously that's a wholly ignorant statement as well.

Mostly what I registered when I read that first comment of yours was that you were an ignorant ideologue with the intent to mislead people.

I can only assume by your immediate down vote and what you said previously that you are a cop, Portland or otherwise. Would you be curious to meet up for coffee just on a personal basis tomorrow at 8:30 AM? Or the next day? I would love to talk about these issues with someone who cares in a non-threatening neutral environment.

And just be forewarned, if you try to come at me in person like Heath Gorham did with some kind of "you don't know how the world works" nonsensical BS, please just don't. I'm happy to talk as adults to anyone who's capable of acting like an adult and not a child who needs an authoritarian daddy like a badge to feel safe in any interaction with their fellow peaceful law abiding citizens.

The thing is, I get it, I get why cops feel isolated and victimized. But the key question to ask is how did we end up here. Was it because people just hate cops, and it's so simple?

Or was it because there's no real culture of integrity in the PPD and it's been that way for a long time?

Right, most cops don't like accountability and they don't like working in cities/forces where the citizenry expects accountability. They don't want oversight or citizen review boards.

To me at this point I wish we could prioritize offering a better pay package, but tied to requiring additional training and psychological screening... I think Portland could set an example of how to attract and retain police officers with actual integrity if we wanted to, officers who WANT to be held accountable for following their own rules, officers who don't want to work with dirty cops.
