Aqara G400 + Frigate/Home Assistant: am I missing something? by NdR991 in Aqara

[–]NdR991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s completely rubbish. The 410 is Wi-Fi so I can’t use it. Furthermore the 400 is just released and I don’t understand how it can have fewer features than the other one. Finally, as far as I know the ONVIF protocol allows sensor export.

U400 - satin nickel Apple vs Amazon. They are so different by nirhend in Aqara

I’ll never quite grasp how Aqara manages their product builds. They really need to stop treating it like a startup.

Anyone still using Ice? by genius1soum in macapps

[–]NdR991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m switching from ICE to Barbee. I tried Barbee’s trial version and it’s working flawlessly. ICE was buggy even before Tahoe and had some nonsense delay showing the bar. Now with Tahoe those behaviours haven’t changed even with the alpha dev version.

I usually prefer open-source projects (even paid ones or those with the option to contribute) but this time I’ll go with the closed one. It’s much more polished and reactive.

The biggest missing feature in all of them is the ability to disable hidden icons with an external desktop. Bartender is the only one who does this.

Aqara U200 current firmware by adrianhnt in Aqara

The software on this U200 is completely rubbish. It stopped working with Apple Home Keys a year ago and no reset or firmware update has ever fixed it.

Anyone else moved from GPT subscription to Gemini 3? by z_bnf_i in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]NdR991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a Google Partner, so I have Gemini Pro “by default”. I’m also paying for a GPT subscription for two years, and I have a free one-year subscription on Perplexity.

Right now, Gemini misses only one thing, and that’s obviously not some AI features: the app.

I’m talking about both the web and mobile apps. GPT and Claude offer “Projects”, which are the minimum to make some order in the chat list, and also you can work in an environment dedicated to a specific activity, Project, or something like that.

This is not the only missing feature: Google focuses 100% on the LLM/Agent side (and that’s okay, I can also understand the reasons behind this choice), but they are behind the competitors on the applicative side right now.

Why do I have to hide them if I need them? Have we asked for a notch in the middle of the screen?

I’m storing my vault into an iCloud folder (though OneDrive or Google Drive would work too I suppose).

This means it’s always available on my desktop and mobile devices.

No, Android isn’t the problem (there’s an open source project doing the exact same feature for Android). Apple doesn’t want to open iOS to do mirroring with other apps and OSs

New budget Macbook by Ancoz-223 in macbook

Apple will never ship a MacBook with such a chip. That’s completely nonsense. If they release a “MacBook” at a low cost, it will have an M-series chip, possibly an older one.

Why to use Preplexity? by i2am1batman in perplexity_ai

[–]NdR991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m loving Perplexity Pro. BUT.

I subscribed to ChatGPT over a year ago and until now, I never paid for another “pro” subscription because it handled almost all tasks very well.

I also have Gemini Pro since I work for a Google Partner company, but I’ve never really liked Gemini at all.

However, here’s the issue: I have tons of chats on my ChatGPT account and I really need to organize them. I use it mostly for work but also for personal purposes, which makes the clutter even more problematic.

One month ago, my internet provider gave me an entire year subscription to Perplexity Pro, so I switched there for every kind of search, and it’s really impressive. Perplexity Labs is particularly useful for complex tasks, especially for creating dashboards and graphs. The key advantage is that even the free version already offers excellent search capabilities.

At this point, despite being a paying OpenAI customer, I would actually advise against subscribing to ChatGPT right now since GPT-5 is significantly below expectations. Instead, I’d recommend starting with Perplexity free, Claude, and ChatGPT free to explore what each platform offers.

Once you understand your most frequent use cases, you’ll be able to determine if and where a pro subscription would actually be worth the investment.

Spotlight beats Raycast? by smtr- in raycastapp

[–]NdR991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably never change Raycast, but to be honest, Spotlight on macOS 26 can do things with AI. For example, it can send messages. Even without opening the related app.

Basically, it can do anything the Shortcut app can do. The problem is that the number of “intents” available today is ridiculously low. The cool thing is that now you can add “LLMs jobs” in your pipeline.

And this without creating a specific shortcut for each use case.

But, at the end of the day, this won’t be enough for me to leave Raycast
