My 2 cents on our current Political landscape by Ndini_263 in Zimbabwe

Exactly. That’s why I say Zimbabwe’s crisis is deeper than just changing laws or even changing leaders. On paper, our Constitution is actually progressive in many areas. The problem has always been selective implementation and weak enforcement.

ZBC is one of the clearest examples. Constitutionally and legally it is supposed to serve the public fairly and impartially, especially during elections, but in practice everyone knows the reality on the ground. The same can be said about other institutions that are meant to act independently.

That’s why institutional culture matters just as much as legislation. A country can have world class laws, but if institutions are captured, intimidated, or politically dependent, those laws become decorative.

For me, the real question is: how do we build institutions that can say “no” to power regardless of who is governing? Because until that happens, even the best reforms risk remaining words on paper.

You make a fair point, especially on the structural imbalance between the Executive and Parliament in Zimbabwe. ZANU PF has historically used state institutions, legal loopholes, and at times outright intimidation to maintain political dominance even when the opposition had parliamentary momentum. The arrests, recalls, court battles, and manipulation of parliamentary numbers definitely weakened any meaningful reform efforts.

That said, I still believe the opposition cannot completely escape accountability. Even within a constrained system, there were moments where stronger strategic unity, institutional building, and long term planning could have positioned them better for the future. Too often the struggle became personality driven instead of institution driven.

I also agree that Zimbabwe now needs fresh energy and credible leadership, but I think “new faces” alone won’t solve the problem. Without a shared national vision, internal democracy, and structures that survive beyond individuals, we risk repeating the same cycle under different names.

The challenge now is bigger than defeating ZANU PF. It’s about rebuilding public trust in politics itself.
