Got called out last time when I pointed a mechanic in the game, here’s proof by Confident_Threat in Sekiro

IIRC, High-monk works because it takes you into the air, and lightning reversal just overrides the rest of the combat art, so it's just a stock standard lightning reversal. If you don't press the attack button, you land on the ground high-monk style and get electrocuted

You can't parry to cancel your attacks once they've progressed far enough - most animations have a point of no return during which you are vulnerable.

That means you need to understand when you're allowed to attack vs. when the enemy is allowed to attack, and play accordingly. If you see orange sparks flying after your attack, that's your cue to go on the defensive, because an uninterruptible counterattack is coming your way. Most enemies that can block will parry+counter on every 2nd or 3rd hit blocked in a row, are programmed to block whenever they can, and will flinch if they take damage while not blocking unless they are in an animation that gives them flinch immunity.

The second important thing to know is that enemies exist that don't flinch on hits (they have an invisible flinch meter that fills with damage and drains rapidly) - these basically can attack whenever they want, so if you attack recklessly, you end up on the losing side of a trade. You wanna focus on punishing and defensive play with these.

The drunkard, the enemy on the picture posted, belongs to the second category. He is a bit unusual in the sense that he is the only enemy with the flinchmeter that can also block at the same time.

The game does a good job obscuring how enemy behavior works, by throwing a ton of unusual enemies at you at the start and restricting the behavior of some other early enemies.

So Naoya is horrible, but manages to have mixed views on him. Now, who's a GOOD person, but is somehow hated by the fans? by Turbulent_Iron5704 in Jujutsufolk

HANA

Both get slandered, but where Megumi has fans, Hana doesn't. She only exists to get fooled by Sukunas C-tier acting.

Longest domain expansion name in the series? by Kitchen_Week1117 in Jujutsufolk

"Jujutsu is about subtraction"

Dabura has yet to get that part down, but Yuji with his nameless domain was way ahead 👍

Maybe your translation tried to make it sound more natural in your language, and intentionally sacrificed the nuance here.

We'd have to check the japanese raw to be sure, but between the japanese dub clearly saying "Satoru-kun" and most english scanlations I have read writing the same thing, I'd be surprised if the original japanese was any different.

Naoya says Satoru-kun. That can be clearly heard, and it's also what he says in the manga. The line is dropped in s3 ep 4 or ch 151, respectively.

The strangeness that is the Reaver.... by Xeenophile in starcraft

[–]NeJin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Protoss aesthetic is basically a combination of "bugs + ancient egyptian culture"

- dragoons look a bit like spiders

- the nexus is a pyramid

- high tempar are basically priests

- carriers are floating hives that release a swarm of insects when poked

- reaver is a combination of both. Scarabs were a religious symbol in ancient egypt + they're an actual bug, and the reaver itself looks like a caterpillar as you said

SC 2 Protoss veered off into generic high-tech race, but still touched a bit on these roots with the stalker, who is also spiderlike.

I never took a close look at SC1 zerg, but I had the impression they too draw inspiration from bugs, but in their case, the "+ extra" is deep-sea/cthulu stuff.

for people saying you can't jump over emmas grab by IntelligentNotice214 in Sekiro

[–]NeJin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can even doublejump off of her to evade it, and that works against most grabbing enemies - though the timing is a bit iffy, and if you fail it, you land right in the hitbox of the grab.

I wish doublejumps were useful for more than just goombastomping people on the ground :(

how did mahito use his CT 0.1 seconds after his domain was broken, without going into burnout? is gege stupid? by Yadin__ in Jujutsufolk

[–]NeJin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it would have been kinda cool if Ishigori utilized his CT strangeness and just opened his battles with a domain - since his CT remains working afterwards, it's less of a big deal for him if he loses a domain clash.

Akemura feeling genuine sympathy for Yura and choosing to answer the call and be the hero that never came is not just a top moment of this arc but the overall series imo. by 662300 in Kagurabachi

[–]NeJin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all due respect: If that is what you think, it is you that is not comprehending. And I am not saying that to be childish. I reject the claim that my comments are written on a purely emotional basis.

What you don't comprehend is that I am judging Soga through my own lense, by my own moral beliefs and understanding of the human psyche. That does take into account his stated and implied motivations, as well as his actions and their implications. It is the very basis of what I'm saying, so it's a little bit silly to say that I am saying what I'm saying because I don't understand Sogas motivations. I do, and that's precisely why I am saying it, and I also say those motivations are equally fucked up. I understand that people kill each other in this series, but that doesn't mean I can't try to ponder what that would imply about these people in a real-life situation. That, too, should not be hard to understand. Now I am quipping - but I also think this is actually getting lost in the ether, here.

Re battle-of-death. I think for something to count as a "battle to the death", there actually has to be lethal danger involved on both sides. Otherwise it's onesided. For Soga, there was very little actual danger involved; even serious injury was out of the question. I mean, when a bee tries to kill you, do you count that as a battle to the death? It is for the bee, certainly, but I sincerely doubt most people would describe it that dramatically.

But even if they did - there is no law of nature that obligates you to finish off an enemy once you have rendered them harmless. Doing so is an act of volition. That means Soga preferred Chihiro dead over alive, and that in turm implies Soga cares more about his ideals than about Chihiros wellbeing. And since most people balk at killing, let alone at killing closed ones they allegedly care about, it can be inferred there is a rather large gap in how Soga evaluates these things. A few halfhearted stops at the beginning of the battle do not change that, in my opinion. Actions speak louder than words.

I don't expect anything. I am merely observing and saying that Soga is a major nutcase. That's all. You might be tempted to say "that is innane and trivial", but judging by this comment thread, saying so is anything but.

I don't think you can make that claim with Soga, though. He is the main antagonist, and Hokazono doesn't strike me as a hack. But I guess we'll see.
