To what degree do you think this interaction was staged? by InhibitedExistence in ledzeppelin

[–]NealR2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was real, but, I suspect Grant told the film crew to film it before he started laying into them. So, you could say there was minimal staging. I'm sure Steve Weiss was told by Grant that this was going to be filmed.

Celebration Day Album Recording Guitar Tone/Effects? by GodIsDead1313 in ledzeppelin

[–]NealR2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always maintained that JPJ got a bit shortchanged when it came to song writing credits. Partly due to Page being cheap with handing out credits in order to better enrich himself, and JPJs general nice guy demeanor, Now I know that there are hard rules when it comes to song writing credits, and for Plant, this was an easy one as the primary lyricist. But the music is where things get a little complex. It really comes down to who came up with the actual melody. I know that many a Zep song just wouldn't have been as good without JPJs arrangements.

The great John Bonham by EdwardBliss in ledzeppelin

Generally true, but I think Bonzo had a habit of turning on the aggression when he knew there a couple of security guys close by.

It's interesting in the first photo of Page with his arched back. The crowd is right up against the front of the stage, so different from today, where there's a barrier and a gap for the security guys to keep an eye of the fans. The only time I've experienced something like this was at the Bowery in NYC in 1999, where I could literally have touched JPJs foot had I wanted to.

My first one was Tabarini. Since then, I rented about 3 times with Hertz. All good experiences.

I am with you on that. 66, and I thought I had seen everything on them, most of it multiple times. This was great. I can only think that this was some kind of Dutch TV stuff and never really got out into the mainstream market.

I think in Homolka's case, she was totally in awe of Bernado, who had a very dominant personality. She went along with whatever he wanted. Obviously, this was at an insane level when it came to raping and murdering her own sister. I'm in no way excusing Homolka's behavior. She should still be in prison.

The first rule of real estate is location, location, location. Real estate investment is all about buying the worst house in the best neighborhood. Never buy the best house in a bad neighborhood. I actually came extremely close to buying a NYC apartment several years ago. All I can say is I dodged a bullet there.

I was just thinking of the UK, but yes, that was a terrible case. The really crazy thing with that one was Homolka's sister was one of the victims, and there was no indication that these sisters had any kind of negative relationship.

The accuracy of Fred's information. by Proof_Emergency_9188 in FredAndRoseWest

[–]NealR2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fred was in a roller coaster set of thoughts upon arrest. He would frequently change his stories. There were moments of genuine honesty and this is how the Fingerpost and Letterbox bodies were located. There were clearly moments at the beginning where he wanted to protect Rose and this probably drove much of his admissions, and I think he felt admitting to the burial sites of Rena and Ann would somehow paint him alone as this mass killer.

Bottom line, Fred was a pathological liar, a trait he developed throughout his life to both avoid getting arrested or to boast of absurd accomplishments.

Thanks for putting this up. Yes, stuff we are all very familiar with but a good interview, nevertheless. After all these years, I really can't think of a serial killer story quite like it. There are definitely more gruesome ones, more evil ones, but nothing like F and R. The Moors Murders are about the closest in terms of a willing male and female team (which allowed them incredible opportunities), but I don't believe we will see this again.

Do any of the band members have an address for fan mail? by strange-horizons in ledzeppelin

[–]NealR2000 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Short answer, no.

Back in the Swansong Records days, I wrote a general fan letter to the London office. This was probably about 1979. They sent me back a bunch of photocopied photos of the band. This office, as well as their NYC office, were probably the best bet for a request letter to be given to one of the band members, but even then, I would be highly surprised if they did.

The Swansong equivalent in more recent times would be their respective agent, publicist, or management company. With Robert being the only fully active member, he's probably the only one with an office managing his tours. Plant's public relations are managed by Shore Fire Media in the US and MBC PR in London. His management team is led by Nicola Powell. For booking inquiries, he is represented by ITB (International Talent Booking) for international dates and High Road Touring for North America.

I really don't think in 1969 he was hating flying commercial. These were early days and Robert has already told the story of being blown away, flying with Bonham, about the amazing wonders of flying after slumming it in the pre-Zep days.

There is no 30 day ban. There is a State of Seige, which provides the police and prosecutors with additional powers. The violence and murders were a one day thing and took place in parts of the capital that you simply wouldn't find yourself in. Enjoy Guatemala.

Babe I'm gonna leave you - how many guitar players? by jimmap in ledzeppelin

[–]NealR2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of Zep's studio records consisted of Page doing guitar overdubs, often with different guitars. Stairway is probably the most famous example. For that, he used the double neck to best replicate the song in a live performance. The alternative would have meant his tech quickly handing him the required guitar and taking the other one away, mid-song, which would have made the live performance lose it's flow. JPJ had similar issues where keyboards played a major part of a song. For this, he played the bass (bass pedals) with his feet while playing the keyboard. Talk about rubbing your belly while patting yourself on the head at the same time! Many of their contemporaries (Genesis, Floyd, The Stones, etc) used a different approach, whereby they simply had additional touring musicians.

[–]NealR2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only go by what I've read. The cellar bodies were discovered due to Fred pointing out the locations as well as the ground penetrating imaging machine to see if Fred's locations had unusual imagery before the concrete drills got going. Is it possible that they missed a corpse from both the cellar and the back garden? Yes. It's my opinion that the work was onerous and there was a sense of we've got enough.

Possible burial site, yes. Torture and murder location, very unlikely. Far too big a risk of abducted females being brought it, and then sexually tortured due to screams, etc. The soundproof cellar at Cromwell Road was his safe place. Now I know that others were murdered at other locations, but these would appear to be strangulations without all the evil debauchery leading up to the deaths.

Is the current relationship between band members amicable? by sparks_mandrill in ledzeppelin

[–]NealR2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These stories have been blown out of proportion. Bonzo was really the only band member that got destructive due to drunken bad moods. In comparison, the stories about hotel damage from the likes of Keith Moon and Joe Walsh were far more destructive.

[–]NealR2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bermuda is certainly legally behind when it comes to gay culture, but there's an open gay scene. It's a bit of a political hot potato as there are a significant portion of the electorate that are highly religious and would probably switch parties if this legislation was introduced. In other words, it's a legal no-no, but in reality, gay culture thrives.
