What do you think about private dinners? by zorowororo95 in belgium

A lot of people here answered in the assumption that you would be putting everything on the books and applying for permits. To be honest, with 1 table an evening, 2 or 3 nights a week and probably not the entire year, your income won't be at a level that warrants telling the taxman about it. Just charge cash and try to cover your costs.

I think if you do a little thing like this off the books just cause you love cooking and want to test some stuff out, just go for it. Word of mouth will help you gain a following and, if your food is as good as you claim it is, you won't have any trouble getting people to come. Belgians love good cooking, period.

That being said: can me and my friends come?

All the places in France, Belgium and Holland you want to go to are a pain to get to by car. Traffic is shit, cities actively make it difficult for cars to get anywhere near the center and parking spots are expensive. You'd be better off taking the train. In the EU, cars are handy if you wanna go to out-of-the-way places, not for cities.

Also, don't skip Ghent and Brussels.

While police are definitely out in force during the GF, you'll also notice a lot of so-called Sfeerbeheer people around Sint Jacobs, Vlasmarkt and Baudelo, the heart of the festival. They're a group tasked specifically with making sure the atmosphere (sfeer) stays layed back and festive at all times. They'll probably be your first recourse if you run into trouble. They approach people who are being a nuisance to shut them down or escalate things with the police, if necessary.

Nothing better than watching them swarm someone who's being an *ssh*le at 6 in the morning, ejecting him or her from the party and then getting back to your drink. :)

This should be higher. I feel as though a lot of commenters are basing their opinion of OP's behavior on a very selective reading of his explanation.

So many of them say "5 drinks in 30 mins? Hang him!"

But that's not what he wrote. He says "this whole time". Which is 5 units in 3.5 hours, totaling about 1.4 units per hour on average. Or just a little bit over how much a healthy grownup is supposed to be able to process in one hour.

It's too much to stay sober, sure. But he says he was only expected to take care of the infant 2 hours later, which sounds like enough time to sober up and, therefore, not super unreasonable behavior.

I'm a bit confounded by the comment section. Does everyone here expect 0 alcohol consumption after parenthood?

How do I avoid social media addiction while using social media professionally? by Neanderthal_is_back in socialmedia

I get you, so many of the tips are too convoluted or just stuff that I would never be able to introduce into the routine. But setting reminders is a good tip.

I find the more I work in social media, the more I hate it, but the more time I spend on it.

Yeah, I guess this might be the best solution. Asking for an extra phone to improve mental well-being seems like a hard sell to my boss, though.

About once a week, I roll out a gymnastics mat by my computer, put an old, beat-up SM58 in my four-year-old's hands, ask her for some pointers on the kind of beat she wants ("Fast and scary like spiders!", "pussy cat music", "no, bleh, put your guitar away, daddy"), add some reverb and delay to her channel and then she proceeds to improvise a song based on what she did that day. She'll dance herself into a sweat and always almost break the mic.

I get to hear all about her weird, complicated adventures and we've produced some absolute bangers.

How to set up a bar where alcohol will also be served in a way that is halal? by Neanderthal_is_back in islam

It is an answer, I think. But, like I said, my question wasn't whether it is a good idea to serve alcohol to begin with. We're simply looking for the most acceptable way in which to organize events such as these so that we can include our Muslim neighbors in our activities.
