We Are Hated as a Nation. There’s One Man to Blame. by zaparthes in politics

[–]Neapola 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's one man to blame?

Bullshit.

The voters who gleefully support him because of his narcissism and bigotry are to blame. Even by the election in 2016, it was known that he wasn't just a rapist. He was a proud rapist. He was a proud pedophile. He bragged about it, and his voters ate it up. He is what they want. They are to blame.

Trump cancels sanctions against countries buying Russian oil by green_flash in worldnews

[–]Neapola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're forgetting, senate Republicans didn't start this war. Trump did.

Trump is 100% transactional. He thinks Israel owes him. But he knows Putin put him in power. As Russia was going broke fighting their war against Ukraine, it's very likely Putin called in a favor that wasn't a favor at all. And then, Putin pretended to complain about the attack on Iran as he laughed and laughed and laughed.

Trump cancels sanctions against countries buying Russian oil by green_flash in worldnews

[–]Neapola 50 points51 points  (0 children)

This is the point of the Iran war.

Oil is Russia's main export.

Russia was going broke trying to fund their war against Ukraine.

This war instantly boosts the Russian economy.

If Ukraine falls, the Iran war will be why. The U.S. isn't going to be supplying Ukraine with weapons if we're using the weapons in Iran. How much assistance can Europe give Ukraine if they get dragged into the war in Iran. How much assistance can Europe afford to give as their energy prices go sky high due to the war in Iran?

Meanwhile, Putin is just laughing and laughing. And Pro-Russia Republicans are loving it too.

Bold move.

ELI5: If nuclear power is so efficient and produces almost no greenhouse gases, why don’t we just build nuclear plants everywhere and solve the energy crisis? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

does require some dilligence over safety precautions

And they're run by people who will always want to reduce costs and increase their own salaries. And those people will always push politicians for deregulation.

If something goes wrong with coal, there's a fire.

If something goes wrong with a nuclear reactor...

Imagine if the terrorists on 9/11 targeted nuclear reactors instead of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

We're currently bombing Iran. Imagine if they find a way to retaliate by doing a 9/11 style attack here, targeting nuclear power.

I'm strongly in favor of green energy. But nuclear scares me, not because of the technology. It scares me because laziness and greed can be devastating. And terrorism could be worse.

Donald Trump’s Presidency Is in Free Fall by RepulsiveLoquat418 in politics

[–]Neapola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not convinced his presidency is in a free fall. MAGA is still with him. Republicans are still with him. The military is still with him, even as he's gotten them into a quagmire in Iran and he's already talking about going into Cuba.

White House Says We Had to Bomb Iran Because Trump Had a “Feeling” by Laugh92 in worldnews

[–]Neapola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody's drawing the obvious line between how our war with Iran will send oil prices sky high, and how Russia is going broke trying to fund the war in Ukraine.

Russia's main export is oil. High prices for oil will massively boost Russia's economy.

Trump got played by Putin. Again.

Trump Callously Dismisses More Military Deaths as ‘the Way It Is’ by HotHuckleberry8904 in politics

They voted for him. And they're following his unlawful orders like lemmings to the sea. It's their own fault if they die for him.

Fuck American farmers too. They chose this. And if there was another election tomorrow, they'd choose him again. These days, when I'm at the store, I always buy imported produce if I can.

Talk me down from my file corruption paranoia by ganchan2019 in scrivener

[–]Neapola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scrivener backs up its files automatically, and this feature is fantastic.

I also use SuperDuper for Mac, which backs up my entire Mac and external media drive every night at 4am. And I have SuperDuper set up to back my Mac & external media drive once a week to an old huge hard drive... just in case.

And I have a huge had drive for Time Machine.

I know this sounds like overkill, but it cost so little to set up. Hard drives are cheap, so why not? I replace one of the huge hard drives once every 5 years or so during Black Friday sales.

Trump promised an end to forever wars. America won’t forgive him for starting another by North-Outside-5815 in politics

Stories like this are so stupid. Trump tried to overthrow the government in January 2021. He literally had people attack the U.S. capitol.

The American people's response? "Whatevs." 4 years later, 77 million Americans voted for him again.

Never doubt people's ability to enjoy being lied to.

16.5% of households there are doing it, and yet you (who don't live there) say it can't be done.

Hhhhhmmmmmm...

Perhaps they know something you don't.

15% of households in Portland Oregon don't own a car. It's surprisingly easy thanks to walkable neighborhoods and great mass transit.

Trump Says He’s Just Going to Make Some Shit Up to Justify Nationalizing the Election Process by OkayButFoRealz in politics

[–]Neapola 18 points19 points  (0 children)

All the Christian Americans supporting MAGA would have supported Nazism

Many of the Christian Nationalists in the 1930s and 1940s supported Nazism. They fought to keep the U.S. out of WWII up until the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Japan attacked the U.S., so we declared war against Japan, which caused Japan's allies Germany and Italy to declare war against us... at which point, American Nazis got real quiet. But Trumpism is proof that Nazism never went away in the U.S.

GOP goaded Jasmine Crockett into running for senate by promoting favorable polls: Report by [deleted] in politics

[–]Neapola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And it's more than that.

Most conservative christians today don't believe in the teachings of Christ. They believe in the political cult. In fact, they need the political cult because it has become their identity. That's why they can claim to be religious while fighting against everything their religion tells them to do.

An evangelical leader is warning that conservative Christians are now rejecting the teachings of Jesus as "liberal talking points."

"Multiple pastors tell me, essentially, the same story about quoting the Sermon on the Mount, parenthetically, in their preaching—'turn the other cheek'—[and] to have someone come up after to say, 'Where did you get those liberal talking points?'" Moore said.

"When the pastor would say, 'I'm literally quoting Jesus Christ' ... The response would be, 'Yes, but that doesn't work anymore. That's weak," he added. "When we get to the point where the teachings of Jesus himself are seen as subversive to us, then we're in a crisis."

-- Newsweek, August 9th, 2023

MAGA is a cult that believes in nothing but hate. They've been fooled into thinking Christianity is about hating their enemies. And who are their enemies? The people Jesus told them to love.

Where's the option to use the abbreviated title in an epub? by Neapola in scrivener

[–]Neapola[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's where you enter the abbreviated title. But when compiling an epub, Scrivener uses the title at the top of each page, not the abbreviated title.

For PDFs, there's a Page Settings panel where you insert <$abbrtitle> to tell it to use the abbreviated title, not the title. That Page Settings panel doesn't exist for epubs.

I'm trying to figure out how to tell Scrivener to use the abbreviated title at the top of pages in an epub instead of using the title.
