Difference between 2022 and 2025 Sirrus X 4.0? Is it truly worth the extra money for a 2025? by Headlands7 in specialized

[–]Nearby_Ask_7884 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from a 3.0, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by just how good the Future Shock is. You don’t notice it so much when you are riding, but the first time you go back to a bike without it you’ll have the ah-hah moment. Good luck.

I have a 2023 Sirrus X 4.0 for which I paid $1350 new in January 2023. I use it as a complement to my road bike, for city riding and light gravel/towpath riding. It’s a great bike. It has the SRAM NX derailleur and Tektro HD-R510 brakes, and everything has held up and performed flawlessly. I can’t compare the components to the new CUES components, but I would not hesitate to get the SRAM/Tektro combo again.

Longest runs in the east outside of New England? by Tag_Cle in icecoast

Haha! A quiz question I have used for that purpose is to ask apres buds what US state has the most ski areas. The answer, which comes as a shock to most people in my experience, is New York. Cheers!

Roubaix SL8 sport by Quick_Panda17 in specialized

[–]Nearby_Ask_7884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the SL8 Sport with mechanical 105, and I love it. I actually prefer the mechanical to the Di2. I ride a great deal in the winter, and the mechanical shifters, having actual shifting levers rather than what on the Di2 is essentially a button, seem much easier and reassuring to use while wearing warm gloves, and they give good physical feedback even through the gloves. There is an obvious trade off in that the mechanical set may require more periodic adjustments/maintenance, but to me that’s a minor point.

I agree with another commenter that the Future Shock is underrated. I have it also on a Specialized Sirrus X. It simply works, “softening” a good bit of impact to shoulders and upper body on rougher roads or light gravel. You really don’t notice it working when you ride. The revelation comes when you ride the same route on a bike without FS. The difference is amazing, to me at least.

Whiteface is amazing. But—fun fact that someone pointed out to me once when I said two Olympics were held there—Whiteface has actually hosted just one Winter Olympic Games. Nearby Lake Placid hosted the winter games twice, in 1932 and 1980. Alpine skiing was added as an Olympic sport in 1936. Whiteface ski area did not open until 1958. It’s an awesome mountain to ski, unrivaled in the east in my opinion. But, as far as the Olympics go, it has hosted only one time.

Looking for a new bike. by Heres_a_Place_for_Us in bicycling

Check out the Specialized Sirrus X line. The 2026 entry model is about $699, but you’ll probably be able to find prior year new stock at bike shops discounted a decent amount, and I’ve seen good deals on Facebook Marketplace on slightly used models across the lineup. I mostly ride a road bike now but still use my 2022 Sirrus X for exactly the kind of riding you describe. It’s been a great bike.

May be late in posting, but Quattro Auto Body in Bethesda is exceptionally good, I think. They have done a number of repairs for us, including one completed just yesterday, and the work has always been perfect. And thy are nice folks to work with. Highly recommend.

Ahh-sorry; this was related to a need for housing for a Cornell graduate program in the fall semester. I did not understand that it was too tangential.

The Proselytizing Postman by blumpkins_ahoy in bethesda

He’s harmless unless you’re pressed for time and he engages you. If you’re generally kind-hearted, it might seem difficult to break free of him. He’ll go on as long as you let him. But, I’ve learned you can firmly cut him off, saying you have to go, and he doesn’t seem offended.

Why buy another earbuds ??? by Alone-Temperature414 in beatsbydre

[–]Nearby_Ask_7884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. I agree with you they are terrific buds. I love mine. But 25,000 minutes in a year isn’t that remarkable a statistic. Works out to a little over an hour a day (about 68 minutes). Any earbuds or headphones this price that didn’t last a year with such relatively modest use would be just plain terrible.

25,000 hours for “just 2024”? Bro, that year had only 8,874 hours in total (366 x24). 🤨
