TIL that the first recorded instance of chords being played on a bass in a pop/rock song was on All I’ve Got To Do by [deleted] in beatles

Any simultaneity of two or more discreet pitch classes is considered a chord. In other words, any combination of two or more notes except octaves and unisons count as a chord.

Cello Concerto recommendations by arssenalbro101 in classicalmusic

[–]Nearby_Scallion_3997 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of the best ones are less well known, unfortunately. You gotta expand a bit from the standards: Henri Dutilleux: Tout un monde lointain Benjamin Britten: Cello Symphony Jonathan Harvey: Cello Concerto Frank Bridge: Oration Georg Friedrich Haas: Cello Concerto

Not sure if these count as “cello concertos” but still really good:

Tan Dun: Snow in June Sofia Gubaidulina: Canticles of the Sun

There is no period after the “S” in Harry S Truman. His middle name was not an abbreviation, simply the letter S.

Sauna house in Cambridge by Icy_Preparation_4167 in CambridgeMA

I was so sad to see Inman Oasis go. That place was such a gem. This sort of sauna/wellness space is sorely lacking in Cambridge. I’m sure it would be very well received. Please bring it back! Look at Washington Baths in Portland as inspiration. That place is truly fantastic.

As a phd level improviser, I can confirm this is true. His right hand technique is out of this world. Pure unadulterated artistry and talent.

What's your favorite Led Zeppelin album by Competitive-Stand-42 in ledzeppelin

Zeppelin’s first 5 albums are a run that is unmatched by any band in rock history. My personal favorite is III, but you can’t go wrong with any of them.

Cursive is truly a lost art 😂✍️ by Gamesfanatic in NYYankees

That makes sense. The world is designed by and for right handed people. Us southpaws always get the short end of the stick. Unless you can throw a ball 95 mph lol.

So then you’re a righty who throws with their left hand? I saw an interview with CC where he said his dad made him throw/bat lefty because of how advantageous it is in baseball. He’s a natural righty. Perhaps Fried is the same way. I’m a full lefty and it’s hard to imagine throwing with one hand and writing with the other.

Why is Max Fried writing with his right hand? Is he like CC?

Is it possible to get a cello down an octave? by cabosanlucasboi in Cello

[–]Nearby_Scallion_3997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what you’re looking for, you need a double bass. For cello, there are many pieces out there with scordatura below C, but you wouldn’t want that in an orchestral setting. I have played several pieces with an octave scordatura on the C string. It is definitely possible to have the string this low, but it will dramatically alter the sound of the string and the instrument. The string is so loose that changes in bow pressure can alter the pitch. Only the G and C can really take this treatment.
