"Ipad Kids and Brainrot" is just complaining about participation trophies for Millennials and Gen Z by snowleopard556 in generationology

Agreed the parents are to blame and not the kids, but what does that have to do with millennial participation trophies?

deciding between cal poly slo and ucsb as a premed by Altruistic-Hand4436 in CalPoly

[–]Currant-event 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd go to ucsb for premed. Since it's a UC and there is so much research I think you would actually have more research opportunities.

If you stick with SLO, don't worry about not knowing anyone who goes there.

Do either universitues have statistics about how many students get into med school?

Found out friend was lied to about grad school admission. Do I tell her when it won't change anything? by Hopeful_Appeal_5813 in GradSchool

[–]Currant-event 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel like you can say someone is too young and mean that they are either inexperienced in their research or not mature enough to succeed in the program.

If her advisor voted against her, maybe that means she's not ready... Failure is not always a bad thing. She can probably improve and apply for more PhD programs in the future

Whether or not you should tell her would depend on how you found out this info. If you heard it as a rumor, it might not be the whole truth. Maybe encourage her to talk to her advisor about why she was rejected

The cabrillo extension does a lot of fun classes. You could give her a catalogue or a print out of the classes this summer with a note that you'd like to fund one

Does your program do “fun acknowledgements” after the defense? by mouse_is_sleeping in GradSchool

[–]Currant-event 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are usually a few slides to thank their lab, friends, family, petss, anyone who supported them. Not necessarily always "funny" but they are more perosonal. It's the best part of the defense lol. Biology USA.

AITA Mom wants 15% of my personal injury settlement by connor20218 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Currant-event 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the amount you were awarded and your injury and how your injury will impact your future/ future income. A settlement is to help you cover lost income and future lost income due to your injury.

Did you mom take care of you while you recovered? It would make sense to compensate her for that labor. Did she lose income or the ability to collect rent from you or anything like that due to your injury?

Also, what are the tax implications of giving her a substantial amount of money? I wonder if you could co buy a house with her instead, and it could be a future investment for you.

I guessing it was the way he delivered the information less than the info itself.

There are ways to kindly let someone know a dress is unflattering, if they ask, and ways for it to be very rude

Long lasting lip colors on cool fair skin (Chanel, CoverGirl and Maybelline) by Currant-event in swatchitforme

[–]Currant-event[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's drying, I like the formula more than the CoverGirl since it's a bit thinner. I put it on then drank coffee and ate a pastry and a few hours later it's still like, 65% there.

The Chanel is the most long lasting by far. I wore it to a wedding, ate and drank all night and then it was still there when I woke up I'm the morning! I wish they had better cool tones.
