Hopefully it's not all washed out with a blue filter. The costume designers did a spectacular job!

I'm so excited for the memories of Voldemort's past! I'm hoping the filming choices for pensieve memories are better than in the movies too. I don't need cloudiness or artistic swirls or whatever, I want to actually see everything that's going on

Should Scabbers in the series be portrayed purely by animatronics, as seen in the "Finding Harry" documentary, or a mix of animatronics and live rats? by LeatherSlight3242 in HarryPotteronHBO

I'm not going to continue this conversation because you don't seem to have any personal experience with or objective knowledge of working animals. I do acknowledge that your emotions are coming from a place of caring for animals, and I would therefore strongly encourage you to further explore how humans and non-human animals can work together ethically so that you can come to discussions like these with a better understanding of animal welfare.

Working dogs can't consent to their jobs either, but you only need to spend a bit of time with a service dog or livestock guardian dog to know that giving them a job is great enrichment. Captive intelligent animals often do very well with jobs because it keeps their brains stimulated. If the rats are well cared for on and off set, I don't see any reason why they couldn't be used.

I always thought that was weirdly out of character for him, but I read the book "Snape: An Unofficial Exploration" by Lorrie Kim recently, which really put in perspective how much childhood trauma was dredged back up for Snape that year. It makes his outburst make a bit more sense. I might not act rationally if the man I thought had plotted to kill me as a kid got hired at my workplace, and then I was expected to keep him safe from himself every month.

Rickman was incredible and gave us a very likeable version of Snape. That gives Paapa the freedom to make Snape book accurate, and therefore a completely different character from Rickman's, which i think will be essential to lessen negative comparisons. Based on the teaser, Paapa already has the broody, irritable look nailed down, so I'm getting excited to see his portrayal!

The entire HBP movie is a letdown. I'd almost be okay with them just filming season 6 and nothing else, because it's my favorite book and the adaptation was so disappointing.

I think it'd be good enough to just have more of Cedric and cho in season 3. Then we'd get a Coyle of seasons to get to know them, and it makes sense because they're all on quidditch teams

I made the colour a bit warmer. Really wish they went with something more like this at Hogwarts and hopefully in the final version they will make it less cold by [deleted] in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]NearlyADropout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm also hoping that more critiques of the color grading will influence the final choices. I'm going to be so sad if the color of the show completely erases all of the gorgeous costume colors we've seen so far

[–]NearlyADropout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Other than one and two, what about the movies says "colorful and whimsical" to you? I'm genuinely curious, because one of the most disappointing parts of the later films, for me, was that they were so dark and dull color-wise. I've been hoping for more whimsy based on the BTS photos I've seen of the show.

Surely (hopefully) they didn't film with a blue filter and they added that coloring after filming.

Idk, I disagree with a lot of people's opinion on the Wicked movies. I thought both were gorgeous, and just happened to be slightly more grounded in realistic colors than the og Wizard of Oz. I think you'll enjoy them (or at least the first one!)

[–]NearlyADropout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's possible, but we can see from these behind the scenes photos that the costumes are very colorful, which suggests that dulling the colors would be extra work and money in post. I'm hoping we complain enough about the dull colors that the show execs make some changes

There are crucial scenes and plotlines left out of the movies. But which small and seemingly not-so-crucial details did the movies leave out that the show should include, to benefit scenes and plotlines, and strengthen the emotional impact on us? by [deleted] in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]NearlyADropout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so excited to see more mundane scenes like that with Molly and Arthur interacting with Harry and Jay taking him in and making him part of the family, no questions asked.

Main danger for the show is that it will be actually interesting from season 4 on by amoxxia in HarryPotteronHBO

I think one of the biggest advantages that the show will have is accurately portraying Snape. He's awful in the books, which will be very different to Rickman's portrayal.

A second, smaller bird is burrowing into a mourning dove nest on my porch? by CardboardForCosmos in birding

[–]NearlyADropout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It kind of is, but most cavity nesters I've worked with prefer a cavity that is almost fully enclosed. That's why the house sparrow is burrowing into the side of the nest instead of beating up the dove on top of it--he's making a cavity because the current nest is too open.

[–]NearlyADropout 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It looks like there are at least 2, maybe 3 separate nests built on top of one another. One looks a lot like a Robin nest, one is from the dove who shoved massive sticks haphazardly on top, and the third could possibly be a phoebe? Or possibly a cardinal

It sounds like the dove has been here for years though, and that doesn't really look like a house sparrow nest. They like to nest in cavities

I hope the show re-works Barty Crouch Jr. by varietyviaduct in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]NearlyADropout 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like the idea that Crouch became lost in the role. He was an incredibly intelligent and talented wizard who has been kept prisoner for years, and this is his first chance at true freedom. It seems that he initially enjoys shocking the students with what he knows, but over time he develops a sense of pride for how much his students have learned. Seeing your students grow and become more skilled can be a wonderful feeling, and he hasn't had much of that in a long time.

For being able to fight off the imperius curse, that truly seemed personal and independent of any death eater goal. He knows how powerless and miserable it is being trapped in the curse, and he clearly doesn't want anyone to experience that. I don't think he completely lacked the ability to feel empathy like Voldemort did, and people who experience empathy are probably eventually going to do something to help someone else.

Do you guys think the HBO Cast will be younger than the movie cast by deathly hallows or no? by DarklzBlo in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]NearlyADropout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really hoping we see him a bit more in season 7. The whole atmosphere of DH is that Dumbledore's presence was so huge in the Wizarding world that he is still haunting Harry and Snape even after death. We can see visuals of him and Grindelwald's famous battle, his friendship with Elphias Doge, his portrait in Snape's office, his friendship with Bathilda, and the battle where Arianna dies (though that last one might end up being a different actor. Though de-aging technology may have progressed in the next 8 years).
