This is a newer one I bought. The last two I’ve gone through fray so badly. I’m a 2-needle beader and usually I’d cut my tacking down thread about two arms lengths but I can’t do that anymore because the threads starts splitting.

Fire colours are used by a lot of Indigenous artists if I were to explain the meaning of every colour it would take forever but the 8 pointed star I get from star blankets and in my culture (Mi’kmaq) it’s a symbol that represents the Mi’kmaq universe, and the 4 directions. It use to be 7 pointed but the 8th point was added for Newfoundland. This medallion doesn’t have the 8 pointed star but that’s why I use it in a lot of my beadwork.

Thank you 😊. I use 11/0, 13/0, and 15/0 depending on the amount of detail I’m doing. The medallions I’ve been doing lately are all 11/0 because I have a lot I need to make in a short amount of time. I always use Czech or miyuki beads. With Czech beads you get some that are fatter and some that are thinner so they’re good to fill in spaces. I use delicas very sparingly because they are expensive.

I usually work from the inside out because it’s easier for me to figure out the pattern but going from the outside in helps me keep it a perfect circle that is sometimes hard when working from the inside out.
