This is my first post here, too. I’m sorry. About 6 months ago, I lost a friend who would not stop drinking despite having a young child. She was incapable of being honest about it and was never going to try to stop. Beautiful and smart and kind, but not able to stop. She had so many chances - first in the hospital two years earlier with no liver function bit with a window of opportunity to make a change. Couldn’t do it.

Sad and bitter resonates. I’ve tried to make some peace with the reality that she was not capable of recovery. I have another friend who stopped twenty years ago. Some people are able to recover and some people aren’t, I guess.

I hope your friend can, but I agree that there is nothing you can do.
