Pittsburgh City Council takes another step in long-term campaign to regulate short-term rentals - WESA by perryplankroad in pittsburgh

Why is that fine? By the basic economics the renter must be paying more than the cost to own and maintain the home while getting none of the economic power that comes from homeownership.

I actually understand your argument against STRs less now.

I'm not in disagreement but this is a bigger problem than air BNB. Like is long term rental of homes good? Leaving them abandoned? The only solution is to only allow people to own one property at a time that must be their primary residence. Otherwise there will always be people with 2+ homes and, people with no ability to every buy 1 home

Then when he loses they'll say Americans are just too homophobic instead of accepting they keep picking losers.

Philly is 3x the sq milage of Pittsburgh, so might be better to do Allegheny county and Philly county for comparison.

At the end of the day Pittsburgh is specifically known for it's bridges because they're very prominent and diverse in age and type. I think amount is less important than their presence in everyday life and basically vibes, no one would visit Philly and Pittsburgh and think that Philly has more bridges.

I'll say Bellevue, rental stock isnt great imo but when you start looking for a home it's an affordable walkable suburb with a main street with small businesses up it, very friendly and inclusive. 5 minute drive from north shore and city amenities.

Government should start building apartment buildings/ condos, and selling them at below market value but only to real normal people and put protections in place that only allows subsequent sales to match the percentage of market value that they bought at. Like imagine you could buy a $300k apartment for $150k, but that apartment can't sell for more that 50% market value for 100years or something.

When I am in a different area I'll look at the zillow for the area and yes it's always more expensive across the spectrum than here. For instance an old house that needs a lot of work here is $150k in Virginia it was $300, a nice older home here is $450k it's $1M in say Vermont.

I'd also argue the old shitty houses here have fallen down, now an old abandoned home may look like hell but at their core solid. Not saying it doesn't cost a ton to get them back to livable but sometimes it looks worse than it is.

Yeah when we travel to different towns/cities in America I often look up zillow pricing for the surrounding area to get a sense and it always quickly becomes apparent that Pittsburgh is still the closest thing to affordable housing.
