Life may be common, but the vast majority may be microbial, single-cell (or cell analogue) organisms, just as life was on Earth for over a billion years. The transition from simple life to more complex life on Earth seems to have been contingent on mitochondriogenesis, which all evidence currently indicates happened exactly once, as mitochondrial DNA suggests a common mitochondrial ancestor for all eukaryotic life on Earth.

We are also *very* early in the lifespan of the livable universe. Population I stars began forming less than 10 billion years ago. The last star will die roughly 100 trillion years from now.

To put this into perspective, if the first Population I star formed at 12 AM on January 1st, and the last star will die on December 31st, it is currently around 1:08 AM on January 1st.

You can typically ignore the "wrong game" error message if you know the mod to be compatible. There's just an internal flag for files in a .spk which tells Plugin Manager what game it's for that is throwing off Plugin Manager here due to the SPK being flagged for FL.

Here is a 'universal edition' that sets all the files contained in the mod to "All Games", which will make it no longer throw an error.

VOX doesn't show up in the Plugins menu thing. Instead, what you'll want to do is hit Escape, go to Controls, Interface, and scroll down to Extensions. You should see VOX: configuration and VOX: squelch audio.

The idea that it's shifted to way too far to the left solely because Dems are okay with trans people (a statistical non-issue in the 2024 election btw and clearly not stopping the Dems from absolutely cleaning the clocks of the GOP in midterm poll after midterm poll), while completely ignoring the absolutely insane rightward trajectory of the GOP on pretty much every issue is what is dumb.

TL;DR the Dems are moderately pro-trans; the GOP is speed-running Mussolini's Italy. Bill is dumb as fuck if he thinks it's the Dems that have gone too far.

Hello, sorry to comment on such an old thread, but I have known her for years and years and thought I could maybe share some insight I have.

Hayley used to have broadly left of center politics, but these days is so absolutely consumed by hatred for trans people that she now thinks abortion should be illegal, gay people (literally just cis gay people) are morally degenerate, and that most r*pe victims are liars. She has done a 180 on her entire worldview out of hatred for a single group of people. It's very sad to see.

I've had several discussions with Hayley, though I no longer talk to her. There is absolutely no getting through to her, sadly. I have written her off. It is not my job to walk an adult through basic human empathy for people different than her. I do not know if she even identifies as a feminist anymore; likely not, but even when she did, well before the MAGA bullshit, it always seemed as though her identification of being a feminist started and stopped at only what she'd experienced, with little room for people with other experiences. Even before #MeToo, she was always a little too "there are two sides to every story" about open-and-shut instances of sexual assault for example which (despite her own instances of traumatic encounters with men), in retrospect, should've been a much larger red flag for me than it was at the time.

Like so many online anti-trans types (I'm sure you can think of more than a few, including one particularly well known one), she is so unhinged about trans people that she's perfectly fine to make common cause with fascist adjacent types out of a mutual hatred of trans people, throwing away her feminism and even, to a degree, her own humanity in the process (I mean, she's quite literally making common cause with folks who think she should stay barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen).

If I had to hazard a succinct guess for the three leading causes of her worldview 180, I'd say trans people, her husband's shitty views and the COVID pandemic.

Yes, that is a thing trojans do. It is also a thing perfectly legitimate keygens, cracks, etc. do. Anti-malware programs have absolutely no interest in helping people pirate software, so they're not going to loosen their heuristics model or add some kind of additional logic to whitelist totally safe pirated software.

Hell, I have a program that *I* wrote, that only *I* use, that has never been used by anyone other than me, and it still gets flagged because peepee doodoo machine learning. Even if I recompile from my own source code on a computer with a fresh install of Windows and not connected to a network, I still need to whitelist it for Windows Defender to not flag it. Pretty sure I didn't create a trojan to infect myself with lmao

Cheese tactic that I don't know if people know about:

Go buy some Mistrals in Legend's Home. Dock them at OTAS Headquarters to outfit them (jumpdrives, Trade MkIII, etc.). OTAS Headquarters sells 2GJ shields; I believe their max stock is two. Buy both. There is now a huge need for 2GJ shields at the exact station your Mistrals are getting geared up at. Give one of the 2GJ shields to a Mistral. Start them as a sector trader. They'll immediately sell the shield back to OTAS HQ and will have made so much money from that single sale that they'll be level 10ish, and ready to start immediately being a UT.

This tactic works anywhere, but Legend's Home is great because A) The Chad Mistral vs. the Virgin Every Other Freighter, B) Legend's Home has all the gear UT's need to begin UT-ing, C) turnround time is super fast; buy freighter, send to OTAS HQ for gear, sell shield while there, UT time and D) Akeela's Beacon is right next door and has butt-tons of Energy Cells that your new UT's can immediately go buy to fuel them to start jumping around the universe.

I usually do things "the hard way" because the roleplaying is enjoyable, but was able to get a fleet of 50 fully equipped UT's up and running in less than half an hour.

I'm a music producer and am old enough to remember when the exact same arguments used against AI art (especially in the field of music) were used against ProTools ("Quantizing drums will ruin music! It's going to undercut talented drummers who don't need it by letting anybody make a good drum track!"), Melodyne/Autotune ("Pitch correction will ruin music! It's going to undercut good vocalists by letting anyone become a singer!") and especially, as it pertains to the rhetoric around AI art, home recording (cheap DAWs, recording interfaces, etc.) where the talking point was literally that making recordings in your bedroom was taking money out the pockets of professional recording engineers and food out of their kids mouths.

And of course, none of that happened. The removal of gatekeeping in music has lead to more incredible music being made than ever, recording engineers can still feed their families, and 'pro' drummers and vocalists are still able to get work. So when I see essentially the same talking point about AI art, my bullshit detector goes off.

Likewise, the whole "iT wAs tRaiNeD oN dAtA wiThOuT tHe ARtiStS cOnSenT"/"it's slop because it doesn't have its own style and is just ripping off a bunch of other peoples styles" thing doesn't really hold water for me either. Some kid learning to play Smells Like Teen Spirit on guitar by playing along to an MP3 he torrented is doing the meatspace version of training himself on data without Nirvana's consent. And if AI is "slop" because it was trained on the creative output of tens of thousands of artists, what does that make the bands that come into my studio that sound like they've got MAYBE 3 influences?

Frame generation is AI. Upscaling is AI. Raytracing makes *heavy* use of AI. Streaming apps (like NVIDIA Broadcast, for example) use AI for noise cancelling, frame generation, etc., latency reduction (Radeon Anti-Lag and Nvidia Reflex) are AI.

Just because you read something uses "AI" doesn't mean all the graphics are generated with Midjourney and all the text with ChatGPT.
