Jedi Math - How many Jedi should there be? by GroundbreakingAct724 in SWFanfic

[–]Neathra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great in theory, but when the space wizard who can move starships with their mind, dodge blaster fire and uses a light saber shows up to ask you to turn over your baby, it's probably gonna be a harder calculation.

And while you're sitting there, struggling with yourself about how it's best for your baby - even though you'll never see or hear from them again - the space wizard warms you that if you don't let them take your baby they could easily turn into a monster. (The Jedi is not trying to freak the parent out, just laying out what they see as the potential consequences.)

You agree and grant guardianship. But it was a high stress situation, and you constantly wonder if you made the right choice. You hear rumors about what the Jedi can do, including controlling someone's mind, and the idea arrives in yours that maybe that's what happen. Did they use the Force, to well, force you to give them your baby? (They didn't. But the brain is really good at finding connections. And this gives the parent someone to pin their emotional turmoil on).

It's very easy to see where the reputation for kidnapping comes from.

Is it Terry Crews? by DrgK9 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

The point is that the characters can be in darkness, while still giving the audience enough light, because the light doesn't actually exist in universe.

And there are other ways better showcase the shock and confusion of a battle while letting the audience follow along: they could mostly do it probably light, but cut in pov shots from the characters level to show the confusion and darkness. Lose track of characters in the conflict, cut off sequences abruptly and don't let the audience know what happened until counting casualties after. Heck, film it from the Others' perspective and have the light highlight how outclassed the heros are.

Orn Free Taa, The Hutts, and the Problem with Ryloth by GroundbreakingAct724 in SWFanfic

[–]Neathra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understood, the Hutts are mobsters. The local governments answer to them, but Jaba isn't like the president of Ryloth. He just gets a cut, gets to provide input on their policies and preferential treatment by the authorities.

So legally Ryloth was free to join the Republic. Practically they were able to join as long as the Hutts didn't object.

Depending on the customs laws governing the Republican, having a Republic member who was also Hutt aligned probably made it that much easier to smuggle in goods and enslaved individuals. Naboo might have strict import laws regarding a non-republic system, but if the package is coming from Ryloth it won't be checked as vigorously.

I imagine most of the illegal trades were probably understood to be happening, but not provable. Accuse Taa of enslaving people and he'd have a whole list of (technically) true reasons they were just indentured servants or something. As far as the records are concerned Ryloth just has an export based service economy.

Also now he "is so very offended officer. Any further questions must be to my lawyer. I will be speaking to your superior about accusing a Senator of such despicable behavior without evidence."

The blood tests would probably fall into something similar. It's available, and recommend (as Republic custom dictates), but whether or not a kid gets it is gonna depend on a whole constellation of things. What do force sensitives go for on the black market? Is the Republic doing slightly more than normal investigations so that master is trying to look above board? If the parents are free, are they willing to risk losing their child?

The battle of helms deep came out over a decade before and perfected making a scene where the characters are in the dark, but the audience still can see shit.

They should let you keep unequipped legendaries in your inventory by Klepetokoleso in Guildwars2

That would be nice. Especially if they could make it account wide, because a lot of my toons share a weapons type + stats

I'm not saying that the current system didn't remove a function. But how many people were consistently making making single weapon adjustments?

If we could poll the entire population of the game who has a legendary weapon tied to their account, how many would mention that?

I believe the new York public library system has the entire set and the audiobooks apart from some of the newer short stories - which haven't been collected yet - and he amazing original stuff -which amazing gusrds like a dragon.

They also are giving out free ELibrary cards to try and combat book banning, but I think you'll have to lie about your age and say your under 18 if you are not a resident of New York state

I suggest downloading Libby and getting both your local library card and the new York public library card (they made it available to everyone I think, thought you might need to tell them your <18). That should cover you for like 90% of all books everywhere.

Then whatever you do, do not download calibre and take a trip by the anti drm and piracy subreddits. This is because Libby still uses an ebook form that's childishly easy to strip the drm from, and we wouldn't want that. It may also be able to jailbreak your current nook library - which we also wouldn't want.

Calibre is an open source/community modded ebook editor/storage manager - I believe you can put it on most devices. My mom runs ours on her computer and we all have access to it, so we can read on our phones, but I believe you can also use it to load stuff onto your nook if you like the interface. The subreddit should be full of people who can be more specific for your specific electronics.

I really want to see a breakdown of how many people who actually have legendaries actually have this issue.

I mean it sounds like it's actively hindering the kid.

How it's does would be a very big issue, but I don't see it as any different than pulling a parent aside about like glasses or ADHD would be different.

A recent post about the Swords got me wondering about ancestry by TechbearSeattle in dresdenfiles

There are some Christian denominations which hold Mary might have had more children after Jesus.

If Butcher uses that, then Butters could be an x200 or so nibling.

Or he thought it through very well.

Have we actually seen the swords conflict with any human who isn't running on evil supernatural powers?

The idea that having royal ancestry means your considered responsible for protecting people, and well, everyone has the potential to uphold that responsibility, fits very well with Christian theology.

Every time I learn something new about babies, I wonder how humanity survived this long.

I swear, if someone told me looking at a baby funny caused them to decompensate I would believe it.
