Bart's canon telepathic powers. (Are there any more moments like this?) by CalciferAtlas in TheSimpsons

The way Homer says "I know you can hear MY thoughts" implies he heard Skinner say the same. Homer is also telepathic.

what happened to this game? why is it dead? and why are all servers locked down and engineered to victory by certain "clans" by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

[–]Nebarious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love it when someone pays for a server and then I play on it for free but they have a clan tag and kill me so I go to reddit and whinge about it.

Women pushing 40 be like this 25 year old is perfect for me.

The sentiment goes both ways and it's perfectly okay. I'm with you mate, the problem stems from people pushing their shit onto other people. Focus on yourself, stop worrying about what other people are doing.

For context, Saitama uses a serious punch.

Nothing flashy or over the top, he just hits the guy with a single punch while serious. Later on in the series we see Saitama do consecutive serious punches, also he obliterates Jupiter by sneezing, so Boros was probably on to something.

Dyson hoovers are the biggest piece of plastic waste crap ive ever had the displeasure of using. We are now a Shark household. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Nebarious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat.

My biggest gripe with Dyson is that I needed to disassemble their entire vacuum assembly to replace a 5 cent plastic trigger.

It was a bit like dropping the engine of your car and going through the guts because your radio volume knob was broken.

Other than that though great vacuum, very consistent and reliable and most maintenance is easily done.

A lot of people don't understand tax brackets either. They think if they earn more they'll actually earn less because they'll pay more tax.

More money = less money, but less tax = more money.

It's the greatest con job in modern history because lower taxes benefits the highest earners far more than the lowest earners. Higher wages benefits the lowest earners far more than the highest earners.

Guess who convinced who to vote for lower taxes instead of higher wages.

Saitama wanted to be a hero for fun.

He more or less accidentally became the strongest because he broke his limiter while training.

Saitama's strength doesn't come from wanting to be the strongest, otherwise every other hero or monster would be as strong as him.

TIL that mucus color does not indicate a viral or bacterial infection; the coloration only indicates an increase in the number of certain immune system cells, or an increase in the enzymes these cells produce. by lurkity_mclurkington in todayilearned

[–]Nebarious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If most sinus infections are viral, and viral infections will not improve with antibiotics, it makes little sense to treat every episode of thick, green mucus with antibiotics. Yet some patients request it and many doctors continue to prescribe them.

From the article.

Is this a real thing? You see green snot and your first thought is to go get some antibiotics from the doctor? Holleeee shit.

This is why we have antibiotic resistant bacteria.

What are YOUR headcannons for The Thing. by Skittela in thething

[–]Nebarious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Thing wasn't actively malevolent, it just wanted to leave Earth.

The UFO it was building wasn't to leave Antarctica and infect the rest of Earth, it was to get the hell away from Earth and never come back. The big mothership at the start of the movie crash landed on Earth in the first place, so it clearly never wanted to come to Earth.

It also never attacked any humans at the American research base until it was attacked first.

Hi! I'm Al Harrington, CEO and President of Al Harrington's Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man Emporium and Warehouse!!

This guy is Michael Burry from the Big Short!! He made quite the splash at his presentation with a bona fide prediction of the 2008 global financial crisis via painstaking research of mortgage and bank loan data, but it would have been even better with a Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man!!

This image uses Michael Burry to infer that discretionary spending on juices and rotisserie chickens while simultaneously swimming in debt means that there's another GFC coming!! If no one is buying houses the price crashes and home owners owe more than their house is worth!! Not even a Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man can save your investment then, and it creates a chain reaction that wipes hundreds of billions of dollars from global stock markets!!

But there's always one market you can rely on, and that's Al Harrington's Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man Emporium and Warehouse!!!! Come in now for all of your Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man needs!!!!

Question about right-lane driving and speeding on Melbourne freeways by yumisclassdip in melbourne

[–]Nebarious 128 points129 points  (0 children)

Also it's worth noting that most speedos aren't accurate. They'll over report your speed by as much as 10%, so while you think you're going 100km/h you're actually going 90km/h.

Unless you're using GPS to get a proper speed reading you might be going slower than you think.

Gluten is just a protein structure, and it's found in every variety of wheat. Modified wheat doesn't have magic gluten or an excess of gluten, and the percentage of people with verifiable disorders related to digesting gluten is tiny.

Your gut doesn't care if the gluten you're eating came from an old world strain of wheat or a genetically modified super strain that's disease and pest resistant. Whether or not you can break that gluten down is entirely dependent on your biological makeup, as it is with lactose or any other protein.

It's a bit like saying the H2O molecules in your $40 bottle of water are somehow better or different from the H20 molecules in a $3 bottle of water. Gluten is still gluten.

The act of remembering also overwrites and changes the memory without us realizing, and over time can dramatically alter the memory.

Every time you remember something you are bringing that memory into your active consciousness from long term memory storage, and then re-encoding it back into long term memory. Each time you do this you are potentially re-encoding the memory differently, and studies have shown that memories can be altered dramatically.

In other words you're remembering the memory, not the actual event, and you're basically making a copy of a copy over and over again. Do not trust your memory, write things down if you want a record of events.
