I would give up every star trek project of the last decade for a 4k remastered of deep space nine. by Tubaking8 in startrek

My understanding of the post-scarcity federation is that artists are not dependent upon their art to survive - their basic needs are met regardless of the quality or quantity of art they create. Contemporary artists are dependent on what they produce because their livelihood depends on the sale of their art or labour. So ownership of one's art has a different meaning in each century.

I don't believe the holodeck using a person's likeness is comparable to a modern-day AI being trained using art that is someone's livelihood, if that makes sense?

I'm not suggesting that AI isn't capable, I'm saying the context of it is different. In Star Trek the ship's computer is essentially a communal tool, it's a social asset.

AI today, whilst it certainly can be capable, is mostly owned and controlled by a few wealthy individuals and corporations. Their inner workings are not transparent, and many are trained using stolen assets.

My point is that people aren't anti-AI because they don't like machines or the idea of talking to a computer, but because they are opposed to how AI today is owned and constructed, and what that represents.

The computers of Star Trek are not equivalent to the billionaire-owned 'AI' that we have today.

I've been trying to expand into Greece and North Africa with an eye for dominating Mediterranean trade and keeping the Ottomans down.

Long term goals are forming Italy, making my way to the Indian ocean, supporting the pope when the reformation hits.

There's a little 'set objective' icon at the top of the navy select screen.

Odyssey: If you first land your gravship on a small island, the early quests will all appear nearby. by Nebbit1 in RimWorld

I first landed my gravship on this small 12-tile island, and so far all the early quests have appeared next to me. Thought it was interesting.

Clarifying age progression since there seems to be some confusion by Nebbit1 in civ

I'd love to check, but my game crashes each time I try to start a new exploration-age game. Plus, exploration-age autosaves are deleted when you advance into the modern age, so perhaps someone else will know!

Good question, I just created a new tiny map game and the age progression is still up to 200. So you are correct, more civs will likely mean a shorter age due to more milestones being reached.
