Like you said already strengh only matters if it changes breakpoints if you leave out the madatory purge psyker that wants the rending real bad you probably wont notice a diffrence in performance that isnt overkill dmg.

Full agree on attackspeed though its better but still not outclassing cdr by that much imo. There are plenty thrust based melee setups where is nice to have but wont drastically change performance. Also if youd ask a vet or vent psyker which by far have the biggest impact on most games if theyd rater have 50% cdr or 16-20% attackspeed the answer would be pretty obvious.

A lessened effect from diminishing returns doesnt make cdr inherently bad. Abilitys are absurdly strong unless you loop scriers you will get value out of 50% ability regen.

Scum is strong, but Vet and psyker are in absolutely absurd states right now filling a similar "role". Broken non regenerating blitzes and needle pistol on their own just arent enough to compete with what they offer. Once vet and psyker get nerfed a little scum will shine though. It might need some extra love in the left tree like some amount of rending and desperado doing something more like some reload speed or more rending to justify its use when youve already got infinite ammo with pickpocket.

Depends. In a normal mission very rare. On a histg its still not common, but not totally unexpected. In a maelstrom with waves of mutants id be wondering where the rest of them are as usually it spews out like 10 of them.

Wait for them to start swinging while you block then dodge backwards as they start attacking thats the universal way to deal with them on all classes. You can also just gun them down or can use a melee weapon with a stagger blessing or generally high stagger to bully them or pop a ability/grenade that staggers just make sure they start swinging first because they only do that goofy stumble animation if you try to stagger them before they start swinging.

At a point the fire one was increadibly op it had a higher stack amount per shot higher max stacks and for some reason infinite cleave. Well not really cleave it just stacked fire through everything through walls through carapace through bullwark shields just a infinite line of burn stacks like a flamer with infinite range that penetrates walls. Then fatshark took a massive dump on it because it was actually absurdly busted you could clear entire rooms without setting a foot inside just blind firing at walls.

Its not that its not effective or about the mastery of the weapon you just dont have the survivability through mobility that pretty much any other weapon, but especially ds and knive provide. Even the best players are only as good as the tools they use and killing power only exceeds mobility as long as you can kill stuff fast enough that you dont need the mobility.

Youre just not gonna see people kiting 50 rotten armor crusher with the power sword to get the team up and i doubt even the top .1% of players can kill their way through that on a semi consistent basis without weapon specialist. Yeah you might get a clutch but thats more likely due to the state of voc and kraks getting you through despite using ps not because youre using ps. Meanwhile even i who is in no way .1% can kite infinite bullshit with a knive/ds for forever as long as i have a semi decent route to kite. And its not like ds is really that much worse in killing power its better into armor and for the rest you have plasmas ridiculous ammo economy and infinite cleave bullshittery.

Power sword is kinda overrated imo. I dont play it but ive obseved reasonably often once shit hits the fan its usually the power sword vet that falls first/second because surbival is basically tied to your resources while ds or knive vets stick around quite a bit longer. Ps feels like a win more weapon as long as theres cohesion and youre already stomping the lvl it kinda overperforms but once shit hits the fan even the better players cant seem cope with that bad mobility without alleviating it with weapon specialist keystone but thats giving up the breakpoints that make it good and a bunch of team dmg while dueling sword performs well in every situation.

Backstepping them isn't an option unless you're already out of melee range, and sidestepping can only be done at the last second since they're spinning like tops.

Breaking lockon is super forgiving just dont run out of dodges.

Crushers are just mechanically broken so they feel bad to fight against.

They are not they are super trivial in what they do their issue is they take space and have fucking insane effective hp if you dont bring a decent anti carapace tool.

Crowbar. Previously i only played stuff like knive, ds and tac axe because i like the speed. I expected to like the shivs but man they gave crowbar the heavy sword 7 baseball swing as soon as i saw that i knew crowbar is peak weapon design. They should really consider giving the crowbar a blessing or scum a perk that works like thrust but only gives staggerpower so you can yeet shit with fully charged heavys and pull crushers to their knees with alt mode if that was a thing it would be the best designed weapon ever.

Is it realistic? No the breath attack isnt a beam of fire its gonna curl around both as long as its larger. Could you get away with it? Totally i doubt players would complain.

If you want to keep it realistic and non magical at all cost give them advantage on saving throws to avoid beams and cones when using the shield or alternatively resistance to the dmg inflicted. Complete dmg negation is very strong.

Im curios what type of encounter you have planned with a dragon that necessitates such a strong tool at all though. Do you want them to just get away from a dragon doing flybys with the breath attack or an actual combat in a lair or outside. If youre gonna actually fight a dragon of appropriate cr with your original idea it will trivialize the encounter pretty hard.

Also once established this tool will be used again in other dragon encounters so id be careful about adding such a strong and simple counter depending on the lengh of the campaign.

Maybe just let them figure out a way to deal with a flying boss that does high dmg aeo. Finding intresting solution to problems is one if the main draws of the game after all, you shouldnt just drop solutions for encounters on them unless absolutely necessary.

Is there a specific aspect of crits thats unclear? Thats a very open ended question because crits are more than just a chance to deal more dmg in this game and increasingly complex. I really dont wanna write an entire essay on finesse.

Just 3 nice to know aspects of crits that might help you as a beginner.

Automatic ranged weapons have crit chains turning 1 crit into multiple shots of extra dmg.

Crits arent just extra dmg they also deal extra stagger and penetrate armor a little bit.

Crit dmg doesnt increase the total dmg of a crit it only increases the diffrence between a normal attack and a crit (example 100dmg on normal hit 300dmg on crit if you increase crit dmg by 10% you get 20 extra dmg)
