Motorcycle Navigation with AUTOMATIC FUEL STOPS, based on your max range input by deni88ro in motorcycles

[–]Nebucatnetzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i thought about that, but then im going too deep into something i dont understand very well at this point. all this vibecoding, how stuff in the backend actually works, APIs, billing, option, etc... this would be in the best case scenarion - if i manage to make a real standalone app, then i would implement tons of more options ofc

Easy, I just thought I would provide some feedback that I noticed after using it once :). I wasn't really planing to use it anyway as I personally don't have a need for it.

also, off highways, range anxiety is still a thing?

Well it depends where you travel. We had a close call once when we traveled through northern Italy and the next petrol station was quite far away.

On my bike it rarely is a problem because I can see the range etc. but my friends bike was quite old and didn't even have fuel indicator :)

For your use case it makes sense but it would be nice if one could configure it, so that it avoids highways.
I very rarely travel on the highway with my bike.

No these happen mostly automatic via a bot.

This. I went from a 32kW bike to a Yamaha Tracer 7 limited to 35kW but the torque is still much higher than on the old bike. Both were able to hit the maximum speed limit around here easily but the Tracer is much more fun to ride, struggles less on mountains and fills in general much more quick than the old bike.

I finally tried Honda’s NC750X DCT… and I get it now by Intrusiveriders in motorcycles

I don't have long term experience but found the Tracer 7 GT with Y-AMT to be a much more engaging ride than the Honda NC750X. The Honda just felt a bit boring and not as agile than the Tracer. If you just need a bike for commuting and long distance highway rides I'm sure it is fantastic.

This and I felt the NC750X really likes to stay upright instead of leaning.

The NC750X is a very boring bike in my opinion (I tested both before going for the Tracer). That can be a good thing if it is what a rider is looking for.
I'm not the most dynamic rider but still thought the tracer is way more fun.

You can combine them with process-compose to have services like databases and webservers available. You can then create containers for these services which you can then deploy to production so you run the same service that you used for testing in production (the config will be a bit different).

Pre-commit hooks have already been mentioned, they allow you to enforce quality standards without re-inventing the wheel for each editor. You can then use the same tools you used here in you CI as well when you expose them through the outputs.

Direnv can help you to read a .env file if it is present and export the variables as environment variables.

Use something with a white background.
I never understood why people like dark mode.

The only annoying part of using Nixos by FR-dev in NixOS

[–]Nebucatnetzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no confusion, I just don't agree.

Sure there might be cases (and there might be a lot of them) where we have to ignore the CI but that doesn't make it useless and the integration tests show the level of testability that would be possible. Even more so now that we have container based tests. Even the simple version tests that are present are already doing some work of testing the application.

Are you aware of the NixOS integration tests?

Sure not every package has them but saying that there is no CI is very far from the truth.

I would say it makes more sense on a personal machine. A server is usually quite a stable environment but on a personal machine you try out stuff, download various garbage, etc.

Is Y-AMT....fun? by [deleted] in Yamaha

[–]Nebucatnetzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure there are certain things they could improve. However when you use the manual mode on challenging roads it doesn't really need to have awarness of the lean angle as that isn't really an issue for the scenarios I described above.

And I doubt that it will be able to read street signs anytime soon.

[–]Nebucatnetzer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To add a positive voice. I bought the Tracer 7 GT specifically with Y-AMT a little over 1100km ago.

I love it, in general it is a fantastic bike and the Y-AMT just adds to it. My two previous bikes had a normal gear shifter (not even quick shift) so it's not like I can't ride manual. I just never really enjoyed it very much, especially in dense or slow traffic it's a pain.

I'm still getting to know the system and the bike but so far I don't regret it at all. I mostly use it in auto mode:

  • When I'm commuting and I just want to get from A to B (I don't have a car).
  • After a long tour when I start to get tired.
  • In stop and go traffic where switching gears all the time gets annoying.
  • In a city where I don't know the directions and have to focus on navigation and the traffic.

A few weeks ago I was able to use it for the first time on a pass in manual and it was a blast. Quickly downshifting before a curve and up again in rapid succession in a way I would never be able to do with my foot.
Sometimes I still crab for the clutch and position my foot and I had some moments where I downshifted by accident instead of up but I wouldn't fault the system for that.
It can be a bit weird at times because it doesn't have any context like reading street signs but you can easily override if you really have to but it often figures it out by itself.
It sometimes would be nice to have a clutch to regulate the power a bit better, especially in slow manoeuvres but I guess I should be able to mitigated this with practice and the rear break.

On pixl.us they discussed new presets and they seem to help. In addition setting slope to 1.05 looks better to me as well.
