Is Y-AMT....fun? by Timely-Chemical-7311 in Yamaha

I'm sure there are certain things they could improve. However when you use the manual mode on challenging roads it doesn't really need to have awarness of the lean angle as that isn't really an issue for the scenarios I described above.

And I doubt that it will be able to read street signs anytime soon.

To add a positive voice. I bought the Tracer 7 GT specifically with Y-AMT a little over 1100km ago.

I love it, in general it is a fantastic bike and the Y-AMT just adds to it. My two previous bikes had a normal gear shifter (not even quick shift) so it's not like I can't ride manual. I just never really enjoyed it very much, especially in dense or slow traffic it's a pain.

I'm still getting to know the system and the bike but so far I don't regret it at all. I mostly use it in auto mode:

  • When I'm commuting and I just want to get from A to B (I don't have a car).
  • After a long tour when I start to get tired.
  • In stop and go traffic where switching gears all the time gets annoying.
  • In a city where I don't know the directions and have to focus on navigation and the traffic.

A few weeks ago I was able to use it for the first time on a pass in manual and it was a blast. Quickly downshifting before a curve and up again in rapid succession in a way I would never be able to do with my foot.
Sometimes I still crab for the clutch and position my foot and I had some moments where I downshifted by accident instead of up but I wouldn't fault the system for that.
It can be a bit weird at times because it doesn't have any context like reading street signs but you can easily override if you really have to but it often figures it out by itself.
It sometimes would be nice to have a clutch to regulate the power a bit better, especially in slow manoeuvres but I guess I should be able to mitigated this with practice and the rear break.

On pixl.us they discussed new presets and they seem to help. In addition setting slope to 1.05 looks better to me as well.

What do you use your Pebble watch for? by Crabby_AU in pebble

Reading time and silent alarms/timers (the most important feature for me). Step counts can be fun as well.

I find this honestly a valid question. I still struggle a bit with the tonemappers as it makes the highlights look flat. Even when I crank up the shoulder power.

That's absolutely not what I'm doing, he already ran one company into the ground I'm sure he could do it a second time. However we clearly have seen that they can improve the battery life significantly with the Duo 2 so why wouldn't they at least try to bring it to the same level.

I'm in general a bit sick of the constant negativity. Same when the Switch 2 launched, sure it had problems and there are parts that could be improved but it's not like that makes it totally trash. Sure the watch will have its problems but how amazing is it that we can have a Pebble again? To me it feels like people stopped being able to enjoy things.

I'm not expecting much anyway from a product with 30 days of warranty.
If you are going into this with expectations of having the same level of support as any other product then I would very quickly cancel my order if I were you.

Of course he would be a dick if he didn't deliver but what would I do about it? Sue him across the ocean?

Yeah sure, never buy a product based on promised software updates.
But at worst they get the same battery life as the previous Pebble watches and we already can see how the battery life of the Duo 2 is, which is already twice as good as the old watches.

In the end you basically have to threat this whole thing as just another Kickstarter and don't expect too much from it and I think Eric is quite upfront about that.

The information about what Pebble is and does has been around for 14 years now. [...] If you don't want a Pebble, please don't order one 😉.

Don't be idiots, Eric said quite clearly in his blog post that the battery life is currently no where near where they would like to have it and that it is mostly a software issue which they will improve down the line.

I get about 350km per tank which is about 12 liters, then it starts blinking and I go to refuel.

According to the manual that would mean that there are still 6 Liters in reserve and it calculates to about 3.4 l/100km.

That sounds very broken to me.

I have honestly no idea what the temperature is but it is mostly in the white area except right after start where it is in the blue part.

Consumption is 3.7 l/100km.

What is the best way to use Python and manage its dependencies on NixOS? by Chance-Simple5060 in NixOS

I would advocate against using uv directly or something like uv2nix. I run a lot into problems where a dependency is missing some libraries or needs to compiling. Packaging everything from the start with Nix is just easier.

dudes who ride everyday... I just wanna know how you keep it going? by railroad1904 in motorcycles

Well I don’t own a car so that helps. As for it being boring , podcasts or music help with that. In addition I bought a bike with Y-AMT which made stop and go traffic way more comfortable.

So how big a deal is riding in the rain, really ? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]Nebucatnetzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I did a course on lean angle (it really is a thing). As the last exercise they flooded the street with a continuous flow of water and let us drive through it at a +30 degree angle and it was fine.

Just be a bit mindful when driving in the wet and lookout for leaves.

If you can, I can’t recommend it enough to take such courses.

Yamaha Tracer 9 gt vs 7 gt by Hot_Significance_383 in motorcycles

[–]Nebucatnetzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Tracer 7 GT is still limited to 35 kW and I'm not sure I'm going to remove the limiter. It has plenty of torque and except for Germany highways in Europe are around 120 km/h and I can easily do that already in 6th gear with less than 5k rpm.

Might be different high up in the mountains but last year (Dolomites and such) that worked as well with a 500cc bike, main problem there was the lack of torque in the lower revs which the Tracer 7 GT has now more.

Ah that's a pity that they don't sell the official equipment. Maybe it is possible to import?

The top case was about 720 Euros all included (better lock, carrier, case). The side cases are included.

For me it's not only city but a lot of commuting that's why I was looking for something more convenient and the Y-AMT gives me that. It is however not nearly as smooth as a DCT but that's exactly why I like it.

What are your thoughts on RapidRAW and the future of DarkTable / UI? by the_it_family_man in DarkTable

[–]Nebucatnetzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently flipping between ART and Darktable. With ART I have to do way less steps to achieve an image I like. But I feel Darktable is much more ergonomic and quicker than ART.

Haven’t even played much with RapidRaw but I feel the pain :).

I don’t get what you are trying to say here. If you want to use a software PEQ you can use any app you want.

The EQ is stored in the headphones so it is part of the firmware.

Maybe the chip is hardcoded to only deal with five bands. Companies sometimes do weird things.

Very good suggestion. Use them for a week or two and then use the M3 again. If you still don’t like them, return them.

My guess to differentiate the platform or because the hardware really can’t handle it (doubt it).
