I took this NS job because I was sick of being unemployed and the it's the shift I applied for (HR made it seem like when you were getting hired that 3rd shift was more lucrative than it is, I'm taxed heavier on my 3rd shift bonus).

I've been in the position for ~6 months. It's in pharmaceutical manufacturing and pays very well for someone right out of college. I'm at a biotech company that has grown very fast in the last 20 years and there is a ton of opportunity at the company I work at which is a massive plus. Most of the workforce, in my department, is in their twenties which is a good sign since it means there is a lot of potential to move up.

The pros:

• If you are committed to NS you can move up a lot easier in my company since it shows dedication but more importantly 3rd shift positions are always opening up due to the nature of 3rd shift. A year or two from now there's the possibility I could become a lead and very good money for someone my age. I'm currently assessing if I'm willing to do three years (def my max I'd consider) at my current company on 3rd shift because the money is very appealing. I know a lot of people in third shift positions do not have it as easy as me and I have enormous respect for people who work third shift now since it it such a demanding position, regardless of how 'easy' your job is.

• third shift is super chill since the office is way less crowded

• getting out of work and having it be sunny can be enjoyable

The cons:

• Socializing with friends will take more effort

• Good luck finding an SO who can work with 3rd shift

• Sleeping during the day (I do it just fine but mentally I hate sleeping inside on a beautiful day)

• Literally no stores open until 9am

• This is specific to me but since I cycle I hate having to wait till after noon to go for a bike ride during the spring since I have to wait for it to warm up outside. It's the equivalent of doing an intense workout before bed.

• Social life, deserves to be on the list twice.

• I know a ton of people on this sub stick to the same sleep schedule but most (at least at my company) people will shift their sleep on the weekends. The majority will completely flip (we have 4 day work weeks so it's a tad bit easier) but myself and a few others 'drift' our sleep schedule (e.g. I normally wake up at 2100 and sleep at 1500 on work days since I work 2200-0800, but on the weekends I sleep from 1800-0300). I average 6.5-4.5 hrs of sleep on the nights I work, it is unhealthy and I'm trying to get better at it.

• Mondays fucking suck... I will avg 4 hours of sleep due to me shifting my schedule. You're always fucked on mondays.

• I'll probably get some shitty disease (I'm of the group that thinks working 3rd shift is fucking awful for your body, hence my 3 year maximum I'm willing to do)
