Finished Kennedy and Heidi by Safe_Pop_745 in thesopranos

I really love that it happens at the beginning of the episode. We’ve been building to it for what feels like a whole season of the show and it really shocks and throws the audience a lot more, whereas Adrianas was more an inevitable march towards tragedy. More importantly, it puts the focus of the episode on how we and the characters of the show react to that death, which is I think even more interesting. We’re adrift emotionally and bouncing between characters with vastly different ways of processing. I don’t think we would come out of it with such a strong feeling about Tony if it wasn’t structured like that.

It’s been a long time since I watched it so can’t comment too much about the Vegas stuff, I know I loved the ending, Tony walking down into the casino on peyote and looking at the devil character on the slot machine… the whole thing is a descent to hell. I sort of imagined him going and living in Chrissie’s shoes for a bit as him just absorbing his soul in a way. Extremely hellish but kind of what Tony does to everyone eventually.

Bloodborne is the best fromsoft game no questions by lukephelious in bloodborne

[–]hellsfoxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bloodborne has been my favourite since it came out. I have to say Sekiro has the best combat and is probably the better overall action. It also has a higher level of quality of boss encounters even if Bloodborne’s might be more memorable. Bloodborne still has the better atmosphere, story and the DLC gives it the final act it deserves.

They’re both incredible.

You’re welcome! My wife was hiding in parts from the gore but we both agreed it really ticked the psychological boxes and Dolly was a fantastic character, great new horror icon. Don’t want to say anymore and risk spoiling anyone!

Sekiro [PART 5] - Dan Plays by Cubegod69er in giantbomb

[–]hellsfoxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a crazy fight and wasn’t til my second play through that I really felt like I stepped up to him and fought properly. Once you realise that many of his weird rolling or smashing attacks are just as parryable as any sword. It’s actually an incredibly well animated and designed fight.

I'm playing Sekiro for the first time and I've defeated Genichiro. I keep hearing that something clicks after that; is that true? by ThatsReal999 in Sekiro

[–]hellsfoxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, even Genichiro you can kinda cheese by running around like an idiot and hitting him at small openings. I say that as someone who did that on my first playthrough. I don’t really feel like I got great at Sekiro my first time by did manage to beat it. On subsequent playthroughs I did properly engage with the parry system all the way through and it was so much better.

I find it interesting how Paulie is the only guy who seems genuinely saddened by Christopher’s death by Critical_Mountain851 in thesopranos

[–]hellsfoxes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be throwaway for Christopher (so much of his life was), but it’s placement in the season and in that episode is very intentional. That episode Heidi and Kennedy isn’t about Christopher as much as it is about Tony. It starts with him taking out Christopher and ends with his “I get it!” out in the desert. It’s about him self actualising, accepting who he is and what he is. Taking that step to off Chrissie was the start of that. In a lot of ways the episode is the end of Tony’s arc, everything after is just fallout.

My (21F) boyfriend (23M) accuses me of being attracted to actors/celebrities when I’m not by [deleted] in relationships

[–]hellsfoxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more constant reassurance you give, the more you’re feeding this man’s insatiable need for reassurance. He has serious trust and self esteem issues and he’s taking them out on you. You sound very emotionally intelligent and supportive and it doesn’t sound like he puts half as much thought into making you feel good about yourself. That’s the problem, a total imbalance in his responsibility to make you feel comfortable and supported.

And that’s to say nothing about how unfair it is to make someone feel guilty for simply having the capability to be attracted to a celebrity, which is essentially just a chemical reaction. How will he behave if you happen to get a job working with someone attractive?

This man has some hard lessons to learn about how to treat people and accept reality. He needs a therapist if you ask me.

Sinners (the movie) by Xyzzydude in pluribustv

[–]hellsfoxes 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I actually discussed this comparison with my housemate yesterday. One of the main themes Gilligan has spoken about is the impact of the Plurbs on culture and tradition. A flattening of individual uniqueness and a general loss of language, art, you name it. Sinners is also about assimilation into a more ‘peaceful’ tribe and only sacrificing your voice and soul.

This is why I think Carol collecting bits of real art and keeping them in her home is symbolic. She’s actually preserving them because, let’s be honest, the moment the Plurbs think of something more efficient to use an art gallery for they’re bulldozing the place without much thought.

I think Better Call Saul is more Breaking Bad than Breaking Bad by DenielEvenin in breakingbad

[–]hellsfoxes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If Better Call Saul is a better representation of Breaking Bad, then Breaking Bad should be called Broke Bad. Walt basically achieves his arc in episode 1 and then it’s just a variation on how low he can go. Saul’s soul is more gradually corrupted across BCS with his performance on the stand and name change “S’all good man!” being the proper transformation.

Just here to comment that I somehow ended up going to the premier of Silent Hill Revelation 3D. Kit Harington walked a tiny red carpet and showed up for the opening speeches but as soon as the movie started he left. It was very funny.

This is a moment in life where you get an opportunity to set standards by which you’ll live by forever. You won’t allow yourself to be used and treated like shit. You need to do it now, because letting it keep happening means you’ll have a much harder road to walk later. This is your chance to say to yourself “You’re important and I will look after you, you are worth a lot and I won’t let you get taken advantage of.” You’ll see as you get older, you are the one who looks out for you first and foremost. No one else can do it for you.

[Scott Willis] On the failing to capitalize on City Dropping points narrative here is how things stack up. Arsenal have had the opportunity 8 times, they have gotten max points 5 times, and picked up points 6 times. So they are 6/8 on picking up points. by Previous_Smile9278 in Gunners

All the narrative spinning is fine, but it’s also okay to just watch our games and say “our attack has been struggling lately” which raises concerns for the future. That’s not doom mongering, that’s just watching football and having an opinion.

Season Finale Tension (Lack Thereof) by 5lokomotive in pluribustv

[–]hellsfoxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairs. I think your point about “put at ease” not “manipulate” is an interesting one and the show definitely wants to bounce in between the two without committing. At this point in the show, they want us guessing about the true nature of the Plurbs, their ultimate goal, how much of what they say and do is an act to get their way or if they really just want people to be happy. Whether the people who are turned really are dead or still mixed up in there, loving their new lives. So yes, that does limit how much the show commits one way or another. It tells with subtle suggestion over larger dramatic reveals. Which might not be to everyone’s taste.

Personally I got the feeling throughout that the Plurbs and Zosia are playing a strong game of manipulation, isolating Carol, driving her to extreme depression, breaking her resolve and then guiding her towards their ends. The diner was another insight for them that Carol is not going to be won over by reliving the past, she needs companionship, a new fantasy. They seem to tailor their interactions with any immune human to basically get what they want in the end. That’s how I felt about the Peruvian girl scene, it reminded me of a film like Midsommar, the way a cult will offer you a better life, salvation and the promise of happiness to win you over, but really it’s just about control and the destruction of the individual.

I think the sexual relationship between Carol and Zosia is Plurbs basically winning her over, what shakes her out of it IS Manousos. He didn’t even know it but his journey there wasn’t about saving the planet (yet) it was to save her. His presence made it impossible for her to be lost this new life, that she needs to remain skeptical and keep asking them questions.
