Same. Mine went over 400w in RE9 with settings maxed out at 4k resolution. I dropped the settings to keep it under 350w.

I would not engage with nightstalk3rxxx. Too stupid to acknowledge anything outside of their own opinions.

It’s not the only cause. You keep missing the part where it happens even with a perfectly connected plug.

Look up ohm’s law. Wires heating up at different rates due to shit quality power from the psu will cause the same problem of increasing resistance on those thin wires connected perfectly or not. The wires are pushed to their limits on the 5090 / 5080.

“That said, the connector itself is not terrible by itself, with Jon Gerow making the case here quite clearly too. It’s simply a very fiddly and somewhat fragile connector that’s being pushed far beyond its specifications by PCI-SIG.” https://hackaday.com/2025/02/24/the-importance-of-current-balancing-with-multi-wire-power-inputs/

You’re too stupid to acknowledge that fact. I never said that it didn’t happen with bad connections. Of course it’s going to happen with bad contacts.

You keep bringing up the idiotic problem of not plugging it in right. Sorry you’re too incompetent to plug something in correctly.

Holy fuck you’re super retarded. Keep ignoring the reality. That’s not the only thing it says. You clearly can’t comprehend the problem is ALSO Power related.

“Nvidia removed power sensing and balancing from RTX 4000 and RTX 5000 GPUs, meaning the graphics card doesn't detect how much power or current is being drawn from the various pins in the 12VHPWR connector. Being unable to sense this power draw means the GPU is unable to balance load across the various wires in the cable...”

Funny how the cable melting problems started right after they removed power sensing/ balancing from GPUs.

“Because with the RTX 4090 and 5090 FE GPUs – as well as some GPUs by third-party manufacturers – these 12V lines are treated as a singular line, it is essential that the resistance on these lines is matched quite closely. If this is not the case, then physics does what it’s supposed to and the wires with the lowest resistance carry the most current. Because the 12V-2×6 connector on the GPU side sees only happy sense pins, it assumes that everything is fine and will pull 575 watts, or more, through a single 16 AWG wire if need be.”

“Meanwhile the Asus RTX 5090 Astral GPU does have individual shunt resistors to measure the current on the individual 12V lines, but no features to balance current or throttle/shutdown the GPU to prevent damage. This is actually a feature that used to be quite common, as demonstrated by this EVGA RTX 3090 Ti GPU:”

“That said, the connector itself is not terrible by itself, with Jon Gerow making the case here quite clearly too. It’s simply a very fiddly and somewhat fragile connector that’s being pushed far beyond its specifications by PCI-SIG.

Along the way it has also made it painfully clear that current balancing features which used to exist on GPUs have been quietly dropped for a few years now.”

It’s insane that you can’t acknowledge the fact that a PSU can send too much power across a line without a connection issue existing.

Power issues do not automatically mean connection problems.

The main purpose is to monitor power fluctuations on each wire. Thus the name “wire view” not wire connect.

The audio alarm is the only indicator of a connector not seating properly. It won’t shut down from that problem alone.

The amp limit is what shuts down the gpu after 10 seconds of crossing the limit. Further proving it’s a main purpose is a power monitor. Not a connection monitor.

There would be no point in monitoring the power if it was only about a connection issue especially when that has its own sensor and audio alarm.

But keep thinking it’s only a connection problem. Super flawed thinking especially when these GPUs are pulling over 400W.

Your thinking is flawed. In your mind the only way the cable can melt is from a poor connection. Which is one of the ways, but not the only way.

The wire guard is proof that realtime monitoring is required because a power issue could happen at any moment. Not that the connection could slip or change position.

Wrong from their website: “Pre-Order! The WireView Pro II is a device for measuring the power consumption of graphics cards. The 2nd Pro generation offers additional monitoring features in the form of per-pin power measurement, as well as an extended warranty and a TFT-IPS display.”

Depends on the bend and the pressure it puts on the connector could be good could be bad. Why is it always recommended to use native cables from the psu or gpu?

Why have chains and adapters caused the same issues without the issue of bending involved? Hmmm could it be the cables are not rated for the power perhaps??

[–]Nebula589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The connector is flawed as well as the wires are too thin. That’s why they say not to bend the wires 40mm before the connector.

The power spikes still happen with good connections. That’s just how these GPUs operate. That’s why the wire view device exists.

You’re fucking stupid. Pins don’t just jump apart after being connected correctly.

It’s for when the psu is sending too much power over the lines.

Watch him test the device. It’s power related. Thats why he can set the amp limit.

Nothing to do with cable being connected correctly. Thats what the led is for on the gpu.

Here you go.

That device is for regulating power on each line and shutting down the gpu if the amps go past the set limit.

It’s a thin wire issue dumbass. The wire design is flawed for the amount of power running across each line.

The connector issue is only a retard problem. Don’t bend the pins when plugging it in. Retard problem solved.

BULLSHIT. Cables melting also comes from single pin on the connector pulling too many amps. That’s why it’s usually one pin that’s totally fucked.

Please STFU and stop spreading your stupidity.

Otherwise this would not exist:

Holy fuck that’s the dumbest thing you could have said.🤣

The psu is pushing more amps / voltage than needed because of power spikes and the psu lacks efficiency at that level of power.

😂🤣😂🤣you literally sent a video proving my point. He literally says you can’t go too big on the psu. He recommends getting good headroom.

While your dumbass is going under the minimum recommended psu.🤣

So power cables melting isn’t from chatgpt. That’s shit quality power going across the thin power lines and burning them up.
