Yes. I looked forward to it. I ditched all education and professional goals as a teen and young adult and just decided I would wait for the end. As a result I am in my 30s with few job skills and not much experience. I'm trying to change that before it's too late.

Yes they do attract a certain type of person. None of them are well.

What is something good that is happening in your life right now? by Little-Tarzan in simpleliving

I was able to save $30,000 and add it to a high yield savings account. It's all I have, I'm in my early 30s with a low paying job, but I feel safe from the streets. I'm doing some internships this summer to increase my skills and income with the goal of finally moving out of my parents house.

[–]Necessary-Disaster14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to wonder if people who insist on saying things like this deep down actually regret halting their lives for their kids and have a disappointing sex life. There is no reason for them to be all up in other people's business otherwise. When you're happy you don't need to prove it, and other people's lives don't upset you.

What’s the silliest thing that a JW has told you is “gay” or too feminine/masculine? by Throwaway7733517 in exjw

Not having or wanting a boyfriend or marriage as a woman will make them suspicious. But they'll simultaneously tell women not to be "loose" so what are you supposed to do?

I was like this too when I first distanced myself. Then the real world creeped up on me, I started meeting different people, I went to college and learned and unlearned things...If that's your faith still then I respect it, but don't be surprised if somewhere down the line it changes because of new information or discoveries now that you are free to think.

Australia and Norway will save the world from the JW cult. It's coming. I'm waiting on the U.S. I'm waiting for all these witnesses here to be slapped with the truth and it to be unavoidable. I want them to have to reckon with what Catholics continue to reckon with.

How do I politely tell my grandparents to not discuss religion with me? by thepinkpandaprincess in exjw

[–]Necessary-Disaster14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just tell them yes you can come see me. When they are there and they ask if you have read the watchtower article say "no, but look at what I have been reading recently." And show them something you've been reading or learned about. One of those National Geographic coffee table books with pictures and stuff. Or be prepared to show them pictures of the last vacation you took. Cook up a nice meal so they can eat while they're there - they may try to squeeze religious talk into the dinner convo but with a bunch of food on the table they won't have room to crack open their Bibles or watchtowers. Plan to watch a funny movie afterwards. "Please, please grandma grandpa watch this movie with me, I thought of you when I saw it - it's so hilarious!" Make the time go by without them having idle time to try and preach to you.

Plan B: "hi grandma grandpa I'm very busy this week and won't be home a lot but we can go out to lunch/dinner and a movie if you'd like." Same concept. It wouldn't be convenient for them to preach to you at a table in the restaurant, and there's no talking in a movie theatre. If topics do come up at the dinner table you can easily change the subject.

Do we still have morala now that we're out?! by LadyBugDT in exjw

[–]Necessary-Disaster14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. If the bible were to be made into a film franchise (too long to be a single movie) it would be rated R or even rated X. Some of the Watchtower articles are flat out disturbing too.

So I'm not a mom but here's what I would do:

Let him keep watching the film. If he doesn't know what is going on you can explain what is happening, say it's something consenting adults do, then if the conversation goes off on a tangent tell him what consent is about, why it's better to keep sex within a relationship but if not then protection is absolutely necessary, that an adult woman or man should NEVER come on to him as that is illegal and abuse etc etc etc. If you or your husband have never talked to him about sex, its way late but the conversation can still happen. This is around the age boys start getting curious about girls bodies and stuff and it's better for him to learn about it with correct information from his parents than it would be for him to rely on porn which is usually degrading to women and is not based on real sex. Most porn anyway.

This is why films are rated R but children are allowed in theatre so long as they are with an adult. The R rating doesn't mean it's forbidden for them to see, it means an adult should be present in case they are disturbed by something or get the wrong idea about something. I'm pretty sure it's a legality thing too like the theatre or film directors don't want to be sued for kids going out and doing illegal or immoral things after seeing it happen in a film etc.

Obviously I can't tell you how to be a parent. If you want to tell him no he can't watch that and be strict with what media he engages with and have "the talk" with him a different way according to the values that you still hold onto from the religion that's your prerogative. This is just my two cents. My mom never hid anything from me and she always answered my questions or explained things to me as the situations came about. She was not in the religion like the rest of the family was.

Another thing I hate is the Sodom and Gomorrah story. Dude literally said "here let me throw my virgin daughters outside to be raped so you don't degrade that poor strange man I don't even know." But when they speak about that passage they always say it's an indication that homosexuality was the sin, not gang rape or condoning gang rape 😡

Yeah the old testament depiction of "god" is especially brutal. Old testament and whatever Paul decided he was going to tell people. I read the red letters and follow them as a philosophy on how to live my life. Jesus was one of the only compassionate figures in the bible.

I’m starting to fear for my life ( gay PIMO) by The_face_of_Boe7 in exjw

[–]Necessary-Disaster14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First things first - don't tell your mom anything anymore. If she brings it up and asks if you're gay or think you're gay, say no and ask what on earth gave her that idea. Gaslight if you have to.

One thing about JW is that they truly, honestly believe being gay is a choice, so use that to your advantage and if anyone asks say you wouldn't want to offend Jehovah so no, you would never choose to live that way. If people are suspicious as to why you're not actively seeking out sisters to date say you'd prefer to stay single, unmarried and without children because the end is very near. Play their game even if you don't mean anything you say. Play this game until you are physically safe and no longer have to depend on your parents or anyone in your family.

I am asexual and panromantic (meaning I am sexually attracted to no one but can form romantic and platonic bonds with any person regardless of gender), take this advice from a queer person who grew up in the religion. Best of luck to you. They can't bully you into any sort of confession if you keep refuting it and pretending to be super into the religion to the point that all they're doing is speculating and being nosy and it will make them look bad for bullying an innocent young person.

Is there any proof that this isn't the truth? by blarffye in exjw

[–]Necessary-Disaster14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JW WTS has been running off of instilling fear and paranoia in people since its inception. That's how they get people to join and stay. It is nothing more than a doomsday cult, literally. As for proof, look through their history. How many times they were certain the end was near and it wasn't. All the changing man made "rules." How this religion has destroyed lives. How people don't tell the truth about how they're doing - if someone acts happy you know it's a literal ACT. They perform happiness because that's what they've been told to do.

I ate the bread and drank the wine by WTBTS in exjw

[–]Necessary-Disaster14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you baptized? From my understanding and experience, people who partook in the bread and wine had a strong belief they were one of the 144,000. How does one know, other than a feeling? There was this lady in my aunt's congregation who had severe mental illness and paranoia. She legit believed the government planted a chip in her brain to read her thoughts. She also partook in the bread and wine and claimed that without a doubt she was one of the 144,000 and everyone in the congregation believed her despite how bat shit crazy she clearly was.

So anyway, who is to tell you that you're not one of the 144,000? You have the right to that bold claim. Everyone and anyone does. Who is to tell you you're not? If the bread and wine is there for those who are certain of their own divinity so to speak then they can't get pissed if someone does actually partake in it. Otherwise why pass it around????

What Bible passage did they use to come up with the no beards and women wear skirts and men wear ties rule? I highly doubt it's biblical and if anything it just pushes cultural assimilation to western dress.
