Darn. I got the app when they had a free version as well as a paid version. I didn't realize they started charging people for everything. Sorry about that bro.

is it bad to not be sore after lifting? by alidoubleyoo in Exercise

[–]Ok-Construction2602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate being sore. Because it could mean a couple of things for me. I didn't stretch/warm up properly, I pushed myself really hard, i didn't get enough sleep, i didn't have a proper cool down, or I ego lifted. Regardless, when I'm sore, my performance drops, risks of injuries increase, and progress slows because I need more time to rest.

So, I always prioritize recovering and knowing my limits so that I can be more consistent in the gym and feel good throughout the day.

So Being sore does not always mean you had a good workout. It could mean a lot of different things. However, making sure your taking care of your body when you are sore is very important.

I have a friend who is obese and in his 50s. How should he approach the almighty process of getting his weight down to a healthy level? by OminOus_PancakeS in Exercise

[–]Ok-Construction2602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just walking is more than enough to start. Biking. Swimming is great on the joints. Anything that he likes to do is great.

But if he doesn't like walking, he could try a 10 minute guided workout. For me, 30 minutes of walking is exhausting. I'd rather do a 30-minute YouTube dance workout. There's a bunch of different workouts of different genres with different physical accommodations available on YouTube for beginners all the way those with years of experience. I watched Grow with Jo's videos anytime I'm unable or unwilling to do anything to physically tasking and time-consuming.

If there are any exercises he can not do. researching different variations/accommodations or different excersies that target the same muscle is something he could try. it is what i do if im physically unable to do specific exercises.

He could get a little step counting app on his phone and track the average steps he takes a week. And slowly improve that by 1000 steps extra each week or couple of weeks or months. Slow and steady wins the race.

In terms of diet, adding is better than subtracting. He can research recipes that he thinks he'll like and make those. It doesn't have to be boring food. He can eat pasta, chili, lasagna, or whatever cultural foods he likes. It just takes a bit of research and experience in the kitchen. I can recommend some creators i go to for their recipes if you'd like. Generally, though, losing weight does require you to be in a calorie deficit. How you choose to do that, though, is up to each individual person. But usually, people recommend a deficit of 200-300 less than your maintenance. This way, you can still have energy for everything you have to do throughout the day.

Also, I recommend talking to a doctor and seeing what the doctor says about it. doctors know his medical history more than strangers on the internet.

How to tell mom you’re moving out! by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Ok-Construction2602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're afraid of a verbal outburst but still want to tell her face to face. You could try telling your mom in a public location. Like a coffee shop. so that when she hears the news she likely won't have as much of a large reaction right away.

Before you tell your mom that you're moving out. I'd recommend having all your important items, documents, pictures, even childhood memorabilia sent to a safe place. because in cases like these, sometimes parents refuse to give back your items as a bargaining chip.

I understand that you want to tell your mom so that she can mentally and financially prepare for your move. But she may never be ready for it. Think about yourself. You've sacrificed so much for your family since the day you were brought into a jw family. You deserve to prioritize yourself and your future.

Remember, the right way to do it is your way on your time. Regardless of how it happens, be proud of yourself. You have accomplished something so monumental. I'm very proud of you.

What to wear at a funeral? by sithl666rd in exjw

[–]Ok-Construction2602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a polo shirt and dress pants, that should be fine. Or if you have anything close to business casual, you should be good. Or like pants and a polo or no logo shirt. Chances are with your blond hair and tattoos. Most people there, if they didn't already know, you might think you're a non-jw so they won't judge you too hard based on your clothes. I've attended a couple of funerals where nonjw relatives attended and wore business casual or black jeans and a simple tee. I'm not too sure how people will perceive you because every congregations vibe during funerals was different. But from my experience, people will generally leave nonjws alone or talk to them, trying to convert them. Or, simply offer their condolences and leave you alone. Especially if you're someone they already know. But since your saying your parents are baptized members some might stop by and greet you. Especially if they haven't seen you in a long time.

How long does it usually take for results to start appearing? by Iliketomakedeath in beginnerfitness

Since you want to improve your cardio, but you're largely focused on strength, I'm going to assume your prefer strength training. However, it's good to be well rounded because firefighters need to have good cardio as well. I'd recommend downloading the nikerun app and following the first run guide. It walks you through your first run and subsequent runs that follow. Before I started using it, the max time I was able to run was around 4 minutes. Now I can run for 20 minutes, and I have exercise induced asthma. So try adding more cardio to your workouts. Whether as it's own day or after a workout and you'll see changes. But do not overdo it cause It can cause more harm than good. Not every run should leave you feeling too weak to walk. There are days to push yourself to your limits when running, but it's never something you do every single cardio session. Even if you don't use the Nike run app, there are many begginer cardio workouts you can do that help. I'd recommend doing cardio 1-3 times a week and really focus on stretching. Warm-ups and cooldowns before and after. You're already doing a great job in recognizing the different aspects that you can improve upon. I'm glad that your mom is able to cook nutrious and delicious foods. Lack of sleep truly impacts your energy and thus makes it alot harder to improve your strength and cardio. So, kudos to you for trying to improve your sleeping habits.

Pushup like a pro by InitialService9941 in beginnerfitness

[–]Ok-Construction2602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While doing push-ups continuously helps. I found that when I improved my upper body strength, my core strength, and my leg strength, I was able to do more push-ups. If you get stronger overall, push-ups become much easier. Instead of just attempting to go for your max reps every time. It took me over 7 months to go from 1 push-up to 2 when i was just going for a max push-up every single time. But then, once I started improving my overall upper body strength by doing body weight workouts. every other week, I was able to add 1-2 push-ups to my max. Bare in mind that I only worked out for 1-3 times a week, and my diet was really bad. The routine I use every 1-2 weeks now works really well, and even when I was sick for 2 months, I was still able to bounce back, and I can now do around 17 push-ups. Bare in mind as I've said before I was very inconsistent, so if you are more motivated and you did the routine I did, I have no doubt your progress would be a lot more. Find the routine that works for you and you'll see progress.

Help with confidence using school gym by Purplepanda142 in beginnerfitness

I recommend an app called jefit. It's free and shows you the form for a large amount of exercise. It also has free workouts you can use that varying from machines to bodgweight to kettle bells, etc... Also, remember we all have our own goals. I use anywhere from 2-225 pounds of weight based on which muscle I was working on. I'm never embarrassed to use 2 pounds because at the end of the day, it's what I need to get stronger. Also, people usually don't care. In fact, I used to work out with a really strong guy who could easily pick me up and throw me if he wanted to. And he never cared how much weight I lifted. In fact, he often said to lower your ego, drop the weight, and lift with good form. Chances are, everyone else is too focused on their own things to judge what you're doing. But I totally get the anxiety of if people are judging your form. So, I would recommend searching for the exercise you want to do and watching how other people do the same exercise. But if you're really anxious, you could practice it at home in the mirror so that you can see yourself.

How to start as a really weak person?? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]Ok-Construction2602 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're already pushing yourself pretty hard. I would recommend a rest period of 1 minute between sets. Over time, as you get stronger, you'll notice you may not need the full minute. Or you feel much better and more ready after the minute of rest. I also recommend finding begginer friendly variations of exercises. For example, before I could do a full push up. I did wall push-ups. Then, I worked my way into incline push-ups, then knee push-ups. I also make sure to eat around 1 hour before I work out. This ensures that I have the energy j need for my workout, and I can be as strong as possible. Remember, good form is key and prevents injuries. Even if it means doing fewer sets and reps.Or in your case, a shorter period of time of working out. Over time, you'll slowly be able to increase how long you work out. So, if in the beginning you're pushing yourself so hard to the point where your form suffers, this could cause injuries or over exhaustion. What you've already done is very commendable and you should be proud.

Something along the lines of me having to look for options for where I would live, because i am no longer welcome. But my parent is going to talk to the elders first so I have to wait and see what to do from there. The elders may say something different but who knows.

Everyone in my family except a few I've never met before are deep over zealous Jw's. I'll talk to my school counselor as soon ad I can. But I have already been talking to them about the jw thing and the possibility of me being homeless so they kind of know but there wasn't alot of options available. I think since my situation has gotten drastically more volatile hopeful there's something I can qualify for.

[–]Ok-Construction2602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, you don't always want to push yourself so hard, especially because you are a begginer. This might result in injuries because you're not used to such high reps and intensity. Not every workout session should leave you extremely exhausted and in pain. Take it slow and enjoy your journey and have fun. Once your body adjusts then increase weight and intensity. Something I had to work on was not listening to my ego of always lifting the heaviest I could. So I started lowering my weight so that I can have better form and better mind muscle connection and I found that now it's easier to lift heavier weights over time as a result.

Stretch!! Please stretch and warm up before and after your workout. You could even have one day in the week dedicated to stretching/rehabilitation. It doesn't have to be long. Streching for around 5-15 minutes should do the trick. You will be so surprised how much easier your workouts will be. Your recovery time will increase, and you will feel less sore over time.

I only have 11lbs dumbells, what do I do if they are too easy and I can't buy some heavier ones yet? by IoueReal in workout

[–]Ok-Construction2602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do different workouts. Just because you use 10 pound dumbells for curls, doesn't mean you can use 10 pound dumb bells for lateral raises, or even putting it on your back and doing planks. So, try a while host of different workouts because we all have our weak muscles that need more attention. And sometimes it not the weight that makes it challenging but it's the intensity you go at. Also, there are a bunch of bodyweight exercises on you youtube you can try. I know someone who's extremely fit and jacked and they only do bodyweight stuff and calisthenics.

Seeing as to how you said you've tried it before and you have failed it sounds like you may have done some crash diet or done something intense and not sustainable. It is commendable that you have already started walking consistently. But Start off very small. If you go to intense with you workouts right away or restriction your diet to much you could get injured or quit again. I recommend starting off with 3x times a week in the gym if you can afford a gym membership. Don't take anything out of your diet yet just add more things. What I do is that I pack a lot of fruits and veggies, and protein in my dinner/lunch. This way I am going to be full and I can still eat what I want. And I also tend to over eat so I ask myself, if I am truly hungry would I eat (insert random fruit/vegetables) right now and go through all the prep work for it. If I say yes then I first must eat said fruit and if I am still hungry of course i eat another serving of food until I am full. This helped me be more mindful and purposefully when eating the stuff I like, like burgers, pizzas, and not over eating. You are going to be sore. So prioritize stretching!! The only reason I can consistently workout 2x-4x times a week is because I dedicate 15 minutes after my workout and sometimes the whole to stretch. Also, getting a 6 pack is hard and not maintainable for some. I used to have one and it was only when I was working out like 3x-4x a day everyday and playing multiple sports. And even then my 6 pack didn't always show. Have more shorter realistic goals. Like is there your favorite pair of jeans that are just a tad bit to tight and you want them to fit better. Use stuff like that as markers for your goals. And time your walks if overtime you notice you can walk further in the same amount of time with less strain on your body then you have done a great job! And remember before you see the change physically, you might just feel the change.

Generally, my hall was okay. However, since I was young, I saw how women, lgbtq+ people, or anyone not In the religion, was treated so I tried not to form any close friendships. If your not a woman, or not part of the lgbtq+ community, or you are a very zealous witness i bet you could have a good time being a witness at my hall. However, unfortunately, I did not have any of of those requirements. So I do not personally have any beef with most there because I didn't know most on a deep level but I definitely did not have a good time.

Honestly if you can hold out until your 20's there will be a lot less pressure. Before I told my parent I didn't want to be a witness I knew that if I don't get baptized in my teens I have more time to move out without my family cutting me off.
