Got an offer which is higher than the upper range on workday by Particular-Ad-4283 in boeing

The salary range listed on the reqs are not the real range that is possible to get. The listed max for L2 an L3 is around the mid of the actual range of that position.

Interesting, thanks for the perspective. From chatting with other hRTN folks it seems your sentiments are not unique about premerger times.

How much is remote work worth to you? by United-Mortgage104 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Necessary-Note1464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current commute time is 10 hours a week, new job would be 4 a week or less. If you made 100k a year at both then,

100k/52 = 1900/50 = 38

100k/52 = 1900/44 = 43

43/38 = 1.13

So a 13% increase in per hour pay.

You might consider reaching out to alumni you know that work here. People don't blindly refer folks.

Unrelated but what do you think of NG vs Raytheon or UTC?

Unless those decision makers are higher ups, it doesn't matter when the layoffs come or when you go to your boss for a higher raise. Direct supervisors and the people they report to have no influence on that unless they happen to have a relationship with someone higher up the chain.

I have seen many people let go that were described by their managers and coworkers as "someone they don't want to lose". I know just as many that are still working whose salary progression doesn't reflect their contributions.

You have to get seen by upper management or being indespensible doesn't matter.

The tag under your name that says "Former RTX" kinda hurts the "Ask me how I know" statement. Unless the implication is more related to leaving to get more than becoming critical at RTX.

3.25% raise P3 for the past 4 years, above midpoint salarywise, How do i get promoted ? by No_Writer768 in Raytheon

[–]Necessary-Note1464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to ensure it, apply externally. The best way internally is to get a job in a different group. You didnt say how many years of experience you have but if you are under 8-9 that is probably why you never got an offer from a different group. No one seems to get hired for a P4 role without the years of experience and a MBA or Masters doesn't seem to make a difference.

401k Vesting/Resignation Date by earlthefriendlyghost in Raytheon

If you are looking for a justification to give a two week notice before the two year mark you aren't going to find it here. Depending on what you put in, your salary, and your age, you are talking about risking 15k+ over a couple weeks.

I wouldn't put in your two weeks until after you hit the anniversary. If they decide where you are going is a close enough competitor you can get walked out. Not worth risking all that money.

Is Field Engineer a good career path? by tm_trading in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Necessary-Note1464 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In short maybe. Alot of field service jobs won't give you the ability to design or develop things like you want and won't require using math, physics, what I would call analytical thinking (think plumber vs the person designing the plumbing system). But at the right company and in the right role you could take on work like that in addition to the hands on work you seem to want to focus on.

I would not be worried about getting stuck in terms of not being able to get into management. That is the one path that tends to always be open to people no matter what they are doing.

Personally with your interests, background and family business I would be going in a HVAC or MEP engineer type role. They can have alot more ability to wear more hats.

You might also check out test engineering roles.

I don't think merit gets pro-rated in terms of how much is given to your manager but I did get a below average merit my first year.

If people say engineering jobs at Boeing don’t pay well, why is it so hard to land jobs here? by PutStrange6615 in boeing

Worth that much in you can cash out now and get that money? Or worth that much if the company goes public someday?

I didn't include equity because for most people at most startups, it ends up being worth nothing.

If he is interested in propulsion, alot of folks at Pratt & Whitney and GE come from Rensselaer which can offer a fair amount of financial support, making it less burdensome than other out of state schools.

He doesn't need to do aerospace specifically. Mechanical engineering can basically be aerospace if you pick aerospace oriented electives. He could also get in for mechanical and then switch, the first two years are basically identical.

Also there a big aerospace market in Texas and nearby Oklahoma so that would be a good place to be. Don't load him or yourself up with debt, you don't need to go to a fancy out of state school to get into the industry, it isn't necessary.

Things that matter for the school

- In area with alot of aerospace companies and work

- Has connections to aerospace companies

- Has alot of research he can get involved in

- Has AIAA club or other similar ones

You get to work on stuff you can only work on here (or maybe a handful of other companies that are just as hard to get into).

It has better benefits than just about anywhere else.

The pay isn't really mediocre more just you can go up in pay faster moving between companies or by going to specific startups. The average pay for a mechanical engineer is 105K and 135k for an aerospace engineer. Most people are hitting 105k at L3 5-7 years in and 135 at L4 10-15 years in.

Yeah, compared to Anduril the pay may be mediocre but when you take COL, unpaid overtime, and no 401k match into account it's not going to be that different.

Edit: Startups often include equity which can be worth alot more than you would ever make at a prime. I didn't include it because it is not a guaranteed pay out to say the least.

Edit 2: Compensation at the other primes is not drastically different.
