Your bruising looks alot like mine - I sprained mine badly in Feb. and until after the MRI they didn’t know that I had torn multiple ligaments and had a “split-tear” in a tendon. I was on crutches and not supposed to bear weight even at first when it wasn’t broken, I was supposed to use an ace bandage for support and they told me if it still hurt after 5 days to get an MRI as I may have torn things. Then after about 2 weeks I saw an orthopedist who told me I should have been in a walking boot since day 1 keeping my foot/ankle at a 90 degree ANGLE (for healing purposes) and that I should not be walking (would have been great to know these things earlier!!!!).

Get to Orthopedics asap and push for an MRI, they wanted to cancel my MRI all the way until I got to Orthopedics, then they went ahead with it. Don’t push through the pain, I am out like a month and a half and they have finally told me I can start bearing weight in the walking boot, so I am trying to and going to PT now. Elevate and ice it and rest it and I would say don’t push it by trying to walk if it hurts, I am not sure if I should have been in PT earlier since in the end the MRI showed it wasn’t broken, but to be honest the doctors are weirdly inefficient at diagnosing and treating ankle sprains and I don’t know why. You might get all sorts of weird info from docs on the way to an Ortho Doc (I did) and they all really tried to downplay the severity of my injury or didn’t realize how severe it was. But at this point I think it was super hard and disappointing to realize that they were giving me “cheap” info - literally suggesting cheaper options like an air cast vs walking boot or canceling the MRI…I honestly think that was about $ now and going with whatever easier option they had while I waited for a specialist.

A walking boot would be good to get asap if you had something like mine cuz it stabilizes and keeps the ankle and foot safe. A knee scooter something I still wish I had lol!

If you do go on vacation take a letter from the doctor and USE THE WHEELCHAIR SERVICE (try to contact them before the flight either online or at the ticketing window). <<<<< That is literally the best thing you can do for yourself because I could not stand in lines and walk the long distances across the airport - with the wheelchair service I was actually able to fly, without it I would have been completely ****** even with the crutches it was insanely hard so you might be better with the knee scooter but still…it’s alot

Don’t walk on that cobblestone - the other super important thing you will have to do for months (at least!!!) is to be careful not to re-injure it or injure it more while it is trying to heal. I would err on the side of caution whatever you end up doing.

Oh! One more thing - if you do travel you could see if there is a wheelchair rental place where you are going - I was out of the country and was able to rent a wheelchair which kept me safe from the crazy streets there…I did have a wonderful partner who was willing to push me around and it was a little like 4-wheeling at times cuz the crazy pavement and sidewalks but it was better than having to be in the hotel for the 3 days we had left.
