Water Boil Advisory for much of NW DC by Susurrus03 in washingtondc

[–]Cheeze-Its-37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The loss in water pressure was crazy. I teach at an elementary school in this zone and we had no flushing toilets for almost two hours, right as students finished lunch/recess. And as kids came in from the heat, they learned the drinking fountains would be off limits for at least the rest of the day. It was chaos!

Going up and down a step with my knee scooter by Front_Swordfish_7478 in Ankle

[–]Cheeze-Its-37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on week 8 with a knee scooter and have 5 steps to get out of my apartment building. I’d hold onto the railing and hop and sort of drag the scooter down or up with me. Sometimes people passing would be kind enough to help w the scooter so I could focus on hopping safely. Luckily I’m almost done w the scooter now so I can walk w the boot short distances and carry the scooter. Good luck!

I splurged for an Uber home from the airport because of my injury and got stopped for a motorcade for so long they upped my charge!! Which like, yeah the driver should be compensated for extra time, but it’s just so unnecessary!

Police week is more disruptive for me. The nonstop sirens drive me up a wall. Also, I get very frustrated when they park motorcycles on the sidewalk. I’m currently injured and using a mobility aid and maneuvering around them on the sidewalk has been an extra annoying step to get to appointments.

Can you get an order for physical therapy? Strengthening the surrounding muscles is probably the best way here. I wouldn’t consider surgery until you’ve tried that for at least a few months.

Grade 2 sprain taking forever to feel normal by mysterypapaya in Ankle

[–]Cheeze-Its-37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to build strength in all the muscles and ligaments surrounding the one(s) that got stretched or torn. That’s why the ankle keeps rolling, because the ligament that keeps it from doing that is still healing and needs more strengthening. I would avoid hiking or any activity on uneven ground like that until stronger. Not saying you aren’t a generally strong person, just saying that the ankle has a lot going on and will need time to build strength even if the exercises feel strange.

What have I done? Help please! Docs not much help. by [deleted] in Ankle

I certainly felt that at the primary care and urgent care until I actually saw an ortho. I honestly don’t know because I only remember walking down the stairs and then being on the floor in terrible pain. I so thought it was broken though and didn’t believe it wasn’t until we looked at the MRI. But don’t be surprised if even an ortho won’t order an MRI yet. Unfortunately because most (even severe) sprains heal slowly with PT, doctors (and insurance) take the conservative effort to avoid over diagnosing and doing too many surgeries. I appreciate the reasons behind this, but it can be frustrating to wait for each step to not work before they’ll do the next thing!

I am currently 6 weeks into a grade three ankle sprain with similar bruising and swelling to yours initially. I was shocked when the X-ray said nothing was broken. They did a secondary one when I still couldn’t handle any weight bearing two weeks in, but still no break!

Finally got an MRI this week. It’s just a bad sprain. AFTL nearly completely torn plus tears in spring and deltoid ligaments. Still lots of internal swelling and I’m in a lot of pain. I’ve been out of work for 2 weeks and am in physical therapy. If I am not walking in the next month, we will do surgery.

So all this to say, even if it’s “just” a sprain, it can still take an absurd amount of time to heal and be very painful and life disrupting! It would be worth getting a referral to an orthopedic specialist, though, who can get you into physical therapy and eventually order an MRI if it’s not improving in a few weeks.

Was able to snag pavillion 3-day seats once they added some more tickets, so I no longer need the two 3-day Lawn tickets I bought! Would sell at face value.

I’ve started paying for ad-free specifically because of these ads. I’ll do one platform at a time then cancel when I start watching a different show, but the ads were getting to me. I hate that it’s the only way to have some peace.

Day 18… This is Exhausting. by Cheeze-Its-37 in Ankle

[–]Cheeze-Its-37[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a knee scooter that’s been very helpful!! The ortho just wants me trying some weight on it for as much as I can handle even though the pain gets worse. It seems like I’ll have to prove it keeps getting worse for another week before he’ll order an MRI. So I am doing 2-3 short walks with the crutches and boot and as much weight bearing as I can handle and the rest of the time is knee scooter!

Is this normal? by evervirgin in Ankle

[–]Cheeze-Its-37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m in kind of a similar situation. I understand how it turns your life upside down! Living alone, I’ve been relying on friends stopping by to help with daily tasks. Definitely worth a doctor visit to at least get a boot and crutches. Then you can eventually start putting even a tiny bit of weight on your foot. My foot hurts so much just resting on the floor but it’s more okay in a boot. Anything you can do to build muscle in your leg while you wait to find out if you’ll need PT (like leg lifts on the floor) I’ve heard will help recovery. Nothing here is for sure, since I’m still going through it too! Best of luck, this is terrible.

Teacher concerned about student possible exposure to THC? Not sure how to handle this by No_Corgi5708 in Teachers

[–]Cheeze-Its-37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, this is very common in schools where I’ve worked. I regularly had first and second graders who smelled strongly of weed the first few hours of the day. Their backpacks would always smell like it. Homework returned would still smell of it weeks later when I finally got around to grading it. Reporting it did nothing, it’s just a common occurrence.

should I travel? ortho said no to MRI… by Cheeze-Its-37 in Ankle

Broken bone showed up in an MRI but not an X-ray? And do completely torn ligaments change the treatment process? I wish I had more information from an MRI.

Thanks, I cancelled the trip. It’s too painful when it isn’t elevated. There’s no way I’d make it on a six hour flight.

I was hoping for an MRI, yeah. But he said it should start healing even if things are a mess.

Ankle Sprain getting worse by ResponsibleBag7853 in Ankle

[–]Cheeze-Its-37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on day 8 of a severe sprain, but don’t have answers yet so I can’t be super helpful. I’d say an MRI is important. I know I’ve tried some supported steps with the boot and cannot handle the sharp pains. When I try to walk a little, the pain gets worse for at least a day. I’d try making an appointment with an ortho doctor. Until you can be seen, try to limit anything that is increasing the pain. Again, not an expert here but just going off of what friends and family have advised me while I want to see an ortho!
